“You ripped my heart out, you ripped our entire family’s hearts out,” Colby Ryan shouted during a jailhouse phone call with ‘doomsday cult’ mom Lori Vallow Daybell. Ryan, Daybell’s eldest son, testified in court Tuesday, telling jurors about how she changed when she met her fifth husband, Chad Daybell. “You don’t even know,” Lori said to her son about the murders in the call. “You are a murderer,” Ryan concluded. Lori is accused of killing two of her children, Tylee Ryan and J.J. Vallow, along with Chad’s late wife, Tammy Daybell.

I have known a lot of people in my life with mental illnesses. It wasn’t until recently that I came across someone who I had a very normal conversation with until it became abnormal and then from that point forward, it was very very abnormal, and I know that they are very sick and I wonder after hearing her laugh about her dead children if she’s really severely mentally ill because I understood that she wasn’t competent to stand trial for a long time and I wonder if Lorie still doesn’t grasp what she’s done, especially after that laugh… that scared me.
If she fully and truly believed that what she'd done was, "Gods will" and therefore wasn't wrong, why would she do things to try to convince people the kids were still alive, such as the text messages to her son pretending to be his sister? It makes no sense. She allowed Chad to convince her to get rid of everyone in the way of their "happily ever after" because she wanted the same thing.
