President Joe Biden signed a major $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package that provided funds to cities and states around the country to recover from devastating effects of the pandemic. Regardless of widespread condemnation and criticism, Alabama’s Republican Gov. Kay Ivey and the state legislature have pushed through plans to use a significant portion of those federal COVID-19 relief funds for the construction of new prison complexes. In this episode of Rattling the Bars, TRNN Executive Producer Eddie Conway speaks with Pastor Kenneth Glasgow, founder of The Ordinary People Society, about the shocking move by the state of Alabama to divert desperately needed relief funds to build up its carceral system.

  1. Thank you for sharing this video. This news back in October was the start to my decision to run for Governor. I'm just getting started and would love to be a voice for any Alabama resident that doesn't feel heard by any other candidate during this election cycle.

  2. Why do us as black ppl continue to fall for the same system over and over.Every for years the Dems reach out to us as black for support to keep us suppressed. We vote for ppl that don't give a damn about our well being..Why is it so hard to pass a bill to support blacks.Reform fell through with booker and Scott! Two black men . appoint black to suppress blacks.i in be week they passed law to protect Asians. They are about to give every illegal immigrant 450,000 each for being lock up in those cadges in Texas. 450,000! Ya hear me! I'm done voting for Democrats! Biden and Harris ain't shit! They are part of the plot! Stacey A. wasnt going for it so they settled for the white / black gal!

  3. Biden wrote the crime bill that 10's of thousands of black men in prison. Do you think he will rush to stop new prisons? No!

  4. Unless fundamental change is made, black people will be on a treadmill of stopping oppression forever.

  5. They wasting our money just for there selfish goals. I’m tired of having to pay the government so much money and not having enough to support myself. This corruption is sadistic

  6. Nether party are for the people or for prison reform. People need to stop voting for the crooks that are locking them up. The more laws the house make up the more enslaved we the people become. It’s not just black and brown people in the prisons. I’ve been working with prisoners senses 2000. Anyone that thinks prisons are just about the color of ones skin. Has obviously been brainwashed and blinded with racism in their hearts. As a minister and chaplain. I work with churches that help all people overcome trails that they face coming out of prison. The system is against all of them not just the brown or black skin people. I work with ministers around my area to help find jobs and homes for people getting out of prison. It’s something but not near enough. However, they’re judges that help us keep a lot of people from going back to prison.

  7. So what are you guys saying that fighting is the answer for blacks? Maybe I misunderstood.Biden is destroying this country. Trump did more for blacks than you're own black president did
