2. The 98% conviction rate exist because the entire judicial system blackmails guilty pleas. If guilty pleas were done away with the whole system would cease to function in about 7 months. Most places require a trial to start within six months unless your worthless attorney files for a continuance. Once that continuance is filed you could be held for multiple years waiting for trial. Or of course, plead guilty, which is what they want.

16. Plea bargains are the biggest injustice in our injustice system. Poor people of all colors are herded into plea bargains even for things they didn't do because they don't have the money for a good lawyer

22. When they talked about the high cost of incarcerating someone no one mentioned the highest cost of all. It's the cost to families, children and entire neighborhoods brought on when a parent is incarcerated. When these people, mostly men are taken out of their families, it creates an almost impossible situation for the children who have no guidance or role models, guaranteeing most will remain in poverty, creating a permanent underclass.
