Audits of Alberta Energy Regulator Expose a Broken Agency

1. Calgary-based Houston Oil & Gas entered receivership last week, leaving behind 1,264 wells, 41 facilities and 251 pipelines.In May, Trident Exploration shut down, which put 94 people out of work and left approximately 3,650 wells without an owner.If all of Houston's wells are ultimately designated as orphans,
   the orphan inventory of wells requiring [decommissioning] will increase
   by nearly 30 per cent," according to a court submission by the OWA. In
   that event, the AER estimates the price tag at $81.5 million.
   Hooray kinney! You have spent my tax dollar well!!!!

2. They set up a corporation to regulate other corporations and now they're surprised to find corruption and fraud. What exactly did they expect to happen? Especially given the fact that it's headed by people like Gerry Protti, a former president of the oil industry lobby Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers. And, the person that appointed Jim Ellis as CEO was Ken Hughes a former Chair of the Board of Wenzel Downhole Tools Ltd., a motor and drilling tool supplier for oilfields, no conflict of interest there. Focusing on Jim Ellis is nothing more than scapegoating, the government needs to be doing the regulating directly and it should not be headed by anyone with a stake in the oil industry.

3. I've worked on rig sites and seen first hand the directors of the sites justify breaking the law simply because noone is their to stop them.

   Oct 31, 2019 all morning long ..hearing microwave bullets hitting the sides and windows of my house on the side where Morris Johnson lives .His windows are also opened as The czayowsky’s window on the other side is opened , and is hitting my window and house from their window. Phil Nut Howard was not only picking up supplies but I believe he was also at the attached house behind mine’s hitting my back window and that side of my house. That window at that attached house was also opened .
