I'm not American so I don't pretend to know too much about your prison system, other than the prison industrial complex is making a fortune out of incarceration. I daresay the recent "First Step" act doesn't do nearly enough to redress the imbalance but I find it strange that this bill was put forward by two Democrats and two Republicans, and signed by a president who is continuously labelled as "racist". Quite a few black leaders have said of Trump, that he is the first president who has been proactive in dealing with problems in the African American community instead of reactive. Your high level Democrats seem to be spending all their time either trying to impeach Trump for non existent Russian collusion or just repeating, "Orange man bad". I don't see them working together with Republicans or independents to improve the lot of any people.
