  1. My name is Rudy morales im an ex gang member from Los Angeles I was in prison in 1994 to 1996 in 1995 I was eligible for the fire camp program in Jamestown ca went through my training and passed ended up going to Mc Cain valley near San Diego . I did get reformed and was able to learn how to leave my old lifestyle to perceive a better future for myself self and family . Was in a couple of fires that would last up to months at times I used a pulasky and Mac cloud,I paroled feb 11 1996 I paroled to Hagerstown Maryland, where my friend owned a restaurant and helped me use his address to parole 27 years later I’m now 47 years old and I live in Kingsport Tennessee had it not been for that fire camp program my life might gone with prison gang lifestyle. I’m a productive member of society and never felt like a slave while I was in there it changed me.

  2. From the experiences I've had as a project manager supervising sites with Fire Captains and their crews, Brandon is spot on.

  3. Free labor undermines American labor and businesses. The prisoners get paid zilch. The prisons make money on them. The taxpayers foot the bill.

  4. Why should they hire firefighters at a competitive, fair wage, when they can "rent" prison slaves? For shame, America!

  5. This is slavery… prison is very dangerous. If they are doing the work you pay them. If they are primarily poor non violent drug offenders… it's class based slavery. Pay them the wage they would get for the job. This way they can get housing when they are paroled and will be less likely to reoffend!

  6. So Now I think after hearing you speak, how CA politicians get points for over utilizing prisoners. Save funds to their advantage by enslavement.Agree this must be changed. Skills acquired while in prison should be considered as education and prisoners should have merits toward their achievements in these camps to be considered for future employment after they have served sentences. Seems it needs reformation.

  7. I think fire camp participants need to be honored and acknowledged for the discipline it takes to do that job. That discipline should be taken into account when applying for other jobs upon release . That said YES!! Reform is a must!!

  8. Prison is a deeper level of government slavery. If the inmates went on strike and stopped maintaining the very walls they are locked within the prison system could no longer support itself and would no longer be profitable. If there is no profit government would have no interest and sentencing for victimless non violent crimes would end.

  9. What's the problem? It's just Constitutionally protected literally verbatim "slavery", that private for-profit prisons use to legally exploit human beings by placing them in life threatening situations. Only a few of them die. You guys make a big deal out of everything.
