Chris Hedges: Mass politics must be rooted in class struggle – Everything Law and Order Blog

From the social upheaval embodied in Donald Trump’s presidency and the 2020 uprisings for racial justice to rampant corporate plunder and increasingly widespread labor unrest, the conditions for an organized mass political movement exist in the US. So, why hasn’t that movement come about yet? Is such a movement possible in the US today? If so, what role can the left play in mobilizing it?

As world-renowned journalist and activist Chris Hedges argues, “Part of the problem with the left [today] is that it’s too engaged in political theater, it’s not engaged enough in political organizing, and it often is not literate in the most important element before us, which is class.” In their latest interview for TRNN, co-hosts of THIS IS REVOLUTION Jason Myles and Pascal Robert speak with Hedges about the possibility of mass politics in our present moment, and about the hard work of building working-class solidarity. Chris Hedges is the former Middle East bureau chief of the New York Times, a Pulitzer Prize winner, and a columnist at ScheerPost. He formerly hosted the program Days of Revolt, produced by TRNN, and is the author of several books, including America: The Farewell Tour, American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America, and War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning.

  1. Who are you kidding? Either or both of those parties work for Wallstreet.
No solution will come from the two party ststem ever! Thry are the problem!

  2. A huge part of the Human situation is the fact that Most of Humanity is disconnected from the planet they live on.
If you study Martial arts , KI, comes from this planet. Whether or not anyone realizes this, being connected to this Earth is imoprtant because it gives us strength and comfort. All I can tell anyone who doubts this is to try it. It's real.
So for those can see the tremendous value in being connected to the planet there's a book out. Sherrill Mitchell's Sacred Instruction! This book is the very best way of reconnecting to this planet.
    Peace love and Happiness.

  3. A violent revolution us suicide. Oppressive governments are always expecting a violent uprising.
The entire planet refusing to use money ever again. Even done in the open . Is unbelievable. No one thinks that it can be done.
I think everyone should give this idea a second thought.
    It's doable!

  4. Any revolution on this planet must include everyone on the planet.
We need not be violent! That's the wrong way!
The Revolt against money is the only effictive measure against capitalism.
Because bribery isn't easy without money.
We can have real freedom. Once but not before the end of capitalism.
I want to start Tribe Humanity!
It would be a wonderful thing if everyone could expect help from their neighbors insted of napalm
Without capitalism always pushing for war .
What will the world look like.
The MOB runs the Unions. It has since the 30's. When they almosed caused the country to go socialist. The unions fell victim to, Let the Obstruction become the way! Global money, the Wallstreet Industrial Military Complex mafia. What ever you choose to call a group of totally evil bankers.
A civilization without any type of money is the answer. Otherwise history will just repeat itself.

  5. History repeats and the nasi ideology was supported in the UN by the US and 50 of its vassals recently Russia wanted to dispose of all the nazi senor administration but the us and uk allowed them to survive with joe biden.who has a track record of supporting slaughter for profit.

  6. As far as the entho-nationalism in the Eastern Bloc, this was the willful creation of the US government, including Russia and Ukraine, even before the fall of the USSR.

The USA, Canada, GB, and German governments all supported Bandera and the Svobada movement since 1946.

But every Eastern Bloc state had CIA operatives trying to sabotage these states. The most notable example was the Ukrainian uprising.

The moment the Eastern Bloc fell, the US government taught the population ethnocentric history, not liberal democratic values. And for a reason it was a way to maintain an allegiance to capitalism.

It is no accident that Putin has reincarnated Russian nationalism the USA encouraged the narrative before he was in office. No accident there are Ukraine nationalist as the other popular movements are socialists.

Go state by state and you will see US support for the far right parties.

NATO is a far right institution. It replaced what the Nazi were originally intended to do, maintain capitalism.

  7. It's extremely important not to confuse class struggle with class warfare. Class warfare is what the wealth and power elites do to maintain the social order and structures of injustice and inequality of which they are the primary beneficiaries. Class struggle on the other hand is what those who are under conditions of subjugation and degradation in these systems wage to free themselves to be themselves, to advance the whole civilization, not merely personal prosperity and success, empower themselves, to affirm their human dignity and change their living standards, elevate the quality of social relations and general conditions from tyranny, poverty, political and economic, sometimes cultural forms of disempowerment, impoverishment and oppression.

  8. Is exactly right about everything 1979 my dad was making $1,000 a week he was a Union coal miner, Starting pay in 2023 is 14 bucks an hour. Caps out at $28 an hour, if you live and keep your job for 20+ years
