African-American communities in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, face more than their fair share of political and socioeconomic challenges; at the same time, these communities will play an outsized role in determining the outcome of the next US presidential election. Four years ago, Black Leaders Organizing for Communities launched in the hopes of serving these very communities and modeling an alternative to traditional get-out-the-vote organizations by building genuine community power through year-round canvassing and community engagement.

Reporting from Milwaukee, TRNN’s Jaisal Noor sits down with the organization’s founder and Executive Director Angela Lang to discuss the organization’s mission, tactics, successes, and limitations.

  1. I call bullsh1t. This is nothing bit electoral (ie Democratic Party) fetishism. What’s the point of having the right to vote but no real options to vote for? I’m done fighting for the right of black people to vote for a party that openly holds them in contempt and arms and funds the very racist cops that are killing them. Fighting for the right to vote for more Democrats doesn’t do anyone any good. How about we organize independent direct political action to put pressure on WHOEVER is in office?

  2. I am dissapointed that this channel partakes in this propaganda. Voting is a big problem and it effects everyone equally. "The big lie" This kind of content that is truly part of the divide. The fundaental problem, framing, basically a certain group based on skin as not being able to access a certain polltical party to vote. A conspracy. Who cares about what republican or democrat really means by definition lol this a very biased story and kills brain cells. I dont care about your policitics, i care about accurate information.

  3. Nice to see you again Jasil…? where have you been hiding? You look and sound more confident. Good post, but many Afro Americans are indeed disenchanted / alienated with voter engagement. The Dems are not coming to us with Tangible policies, they have taken our vote for granted and are going to suffer the consequences. We are tired of sock-puppets, tattered symbolism and rhetoric from Kamala Harris type representatives, the erasure and/or conflation of our collective concerns into other concerns. AAs are demanding Monetary Reparations for 300 yrs of slavery and Jim Crow economic exclusion and the dismantling of Police Qualified Immunity. If we cannot get this, we dont want to talk to the Dems anymore. No tangibles—No vote. It's that simple !

  4. Yes this is the organization we need but look what happened it was infiltrated, and it's usually one of your own holding gun line.what will a human being do to another to make a buck to feed his family.which he or she has the right to do,BUT AT WHAT COST.never voted because I never felt I needed to be ruled

  5. Remember the Black Panthers and the Young Lords? This is the type of organizing and organization that needs to be emulated. MAGs Mutual Assistance Groups will help weather what is coming, prepping for disaster matters most now.

  6. Nobodies vote counts. Predetermined elections are not fair. Biden and his team cheated just like any other govt official would.

  7. The impediment to fair elections in USA is a two-party system, and about the Democrats stealing Trump's, they stole Bernie's nomination twice! Voter ID? In Puerto Rico nad in Venezuela, the state issues the voter ID and now that real ID is almost a mandate, Voter ID could be a state-issued Real ID…

  8. What are the black people she speaks about getting for there vote or gotten for their vote in the pass local, state and federal elections and watching the new and undocumented citizens being sworn in as new American citizens. Many say no tangible's no Vote. It makes real good sense!!!
It would be great to see Yvette Carnell and/or Antonio Moore as guest on your show as to the black plight in America. Peace!
