The growing and eclectic brand of activism known as cop watching continues to invent creative ways to confront overpolicing across the country. In this episode, Police Accountability Report hosts Taya Graham and Stephen Janis examine the arrest of two Youtube activists and how they responded in light of recent pushback from police departments across the country. The story illustrates how the grassroots movement of holding cops accountable continues to evolve in ways both unexpected and productive.

  1. I love this Middle part where she explains why these are important for those who think in black and white issues to view these encounters. I didn’t want to believe police were actually as bad at their jobs as they actually are. It amazes me how many police were willing to arrest people just because their feelings were hurt.

What stung worse was seeing how judges are ignorant of what the laws actually say. In Texas, a man was attested for not giving ID, but he hadn’t done anything wrong. But politely said no, not until I’m under arrest. The officer immediately arrested him for failure to ID. The Prosecutor took it to bench trial, and the Judge ruled the man was guilty. The man’s attorney immediately appealed the decision, but the municipal judge was upheld. It took the Federal Appeals en banc panel to intervene and determine the man was in his rights to not identify. I can’t remember the case, but the audio of the question is available. The resounding and scathing rebuke they gave resembled someone getting spanked in legal terms. It should have never made it to them, because the man was within his rights under Texas Law 38.02, which clearly says you don’t have to identify except when you’re under arrest, or during a traffic violation stop of the driver of a vehicle. (They purposely left out passengers, because passengers are only detained incidental to a traffic violation. That said, if an officer says get out of the vehicle, you must get out of the vehicle. Don’t question it, just do it immediately. If they place you in handcuffs, don’t resist, for your own safety. If they place you in the back of their police cruiser, don’t resist. He can only incidentally detain you as though you were the car. Once the traffic violation stop is over, he either must charge you and arrest you, or he must let you go. If he does arrest you, the time and place for resistance is with your lawyer before a judge. You’ll get paid for the illegal and unconstitutional acts later.)

Remember folks, always use a dash cam, and your phone to always record every police interaction. Fortunately, I got away with mine because it was recording facedown and the camera pointed at the door stabilized. My aunt got pulled over, and the Highway patrolman asked for her driver’s license, insurance, and registration. The tags were a month past due, so she got a warning and was sent on our way. She took care of it, and got her plates updated for 2 years, then her transmission went out.

  2. 2 cops show up for a wife who was beaten by her drunk husband, and 15 cops show up for a man/woman with a camara.
15 months to learn how to become a dog groomer, 5 1/2 months to learn to become a cop …hmmmm

  3. Ms Taya: do pigs ever hold themselves accountable, do they ever write themselves a speeding ticket or arrest themselves for unwanton endangerment which is 30 or more over the speed limit, do they ever arrest themselves for lying in a court of law, arrest themselves for assaulting a citizen while carrying a deadly weapon etc. no they don’t, pigs do what they do because they’re never held accountable, they will not hold them selves accountable so we the people need to start holding them accountable after all they serve us we don’t serve them they answer to us we don’t answer to them. ACAB 1312

  4. Ms Taya, the government/pigs are against we the people. Cops are trained on how to circumvent our constitutional rights even though they take a oath of duty to defend the Constitution and not step all over it. They are trying to turn the USA into Nazi Germany, communist China or communist Russia.

  5. Can You imagine… IF every single cop watcher &/or just any person who decides to film a single cop encounter ALL got together & Organized as one "non-profit Group", just how big the Group would be? The Hells Angles GROUP seem to be pretty large Worldwide, but I'd bet an organization of "Filmers" would be even larger. And, I'd bet, some advertisers would support them. I'd also bet Some DECENT Lawyers would be, remember, I said DECENT Lawyers, would be on their legal team. Even I could structure the organization to meet the requirements of a "Non Profit" organization & it would grow grow grow in size (taken from United Way or The Clinton Foundation). This Organization Could then be big enough to take on the Constitution Haters in this Country. The Liberal Left Wing Democrats who want to suppress speech, who want to take away YOUR Rights to Protect YOURSELF under the 2nd Amendment, who want the Gov't to take away Your 4th Amendment rights, &/or any Other RIGHTS as Proclaimed by the forefathers of this Country after THEY encountered Gov't Corruption prior to 1776!!!

  6. The key words, hundreds thousands. SO, WHEN is there going to BE a Class Action Lawsuit against The State, SINCE, State funds support local police departments? WHEN?????

  7. Cops are the violent arm of the State there to keep the socioeconomic order in place. “Serve and protect” is just propaganda.

  8. over 59 arrest in Norfolk va,10 in johnston Pa, 10 inChamberburg Pa and now you want to watch cops? you guys are 30 years too late.

  9. Remember the police, the prosecutors, the judges and tow companies are on one side and you are on the other, and you are standing there poking the bear! Ron W4BIN

  10. A healthy society needs brave people to flex their rights, if people don't then we slowly loose these rights to government who gets away citizens feeling like they have to ID to any cop, get pat downs, searched, be afraid to film, etc. It impacts many aspects but with the insane drug war, first amendment rights are so crucial to prevent citizens from having their lives absolutely destroyed not by the substance, but by the heavy penalty of getting funneled into a system that forces people to plea out and suffer heavy fines and jail time, often completely turning their home life upside down impacting their kids, their parents, etc… if society survives another hundred years i think we will look back at be astonished how we made drugs 100x worse for people than the substance actually is. Yes drugs can ruin people's lives with addiction, but that's a mental health problem.

  11. That's the facts people with no money and stuck with these public pretenders that give them no help what's so ever been there seen it

  12. I don't look like this one.
The ones that are like Audit the Audit are better.

Most of your videos are good showing specific arrests of innocent people…but these guys weren't so innocent.
