Cops want to ban cop watching. Here’s how we fight back w/The Battousai & James Freeman | PAR – Everything Law and Order Blog

A recent article in The Washington Post highlighting the growth of cop watcher YouTube channels provided a rare mainstream spotlight on a movement that’s developed entirely outside of elite institutions. But for all The Washington Post got right, a lot was missed as well. Police Accountability Report sits down with popular YouTube cop watchers The Battousai and James Freeman to discuss the state of cop watching today and how the police are trying to make the practice illegal.

  1. Cop watchers and auditors need to band together to support each other. Not just emotional but financially., in the same way that gun owners have. It wasn't long ago the general public couldn't carry a concealed handgun. It's only because of the clout of the multitude our rights are starting to come back.

  2. I been to court a bunch of times and it strictly prohibits cell phones, food and candy. I kept popping a candy in my mouth every once in awhile and I noticed the judge doing the same in the middle of court. She was a pretty good judge, but I have had another judge get irritated with me doing it and I lost the case probably because of it. Judges are people and sometimes people are weird.

  3. Cops are ok with having on board camera crew and editing to paint them in good light but citizens watching from a distance and catching rights violations is a problem for them. Public awareness of everyday misconduct is so called making their job harder which highlights their own admission of misconduct and blatant rights violations. Departments making the policy of muting, turning off BWC, deleting/editing is ridiculous and is evidence tampering. Federal law needs passed to take control of officer BWC/dashcams, no more Fox running the hen house. Funding should be diverted from the militarization of police forces to higher pay for mandatory college educated and trained in the law first, then academies on how to protect themselves. Small towns with populations of less then 2000 do not need police forces of 10-20 officers, this promotes the revenue generation function of policing and not serving their communities. These small departments are a huge problem in America, frequently hire officers with a history of misconduct at other departments but resigned before investigation completed and avoids termination. Then those departments do not complete investigations and do not report issues to certification boards. All this contributes to higher taxes from settlements that the taxpayers fund. #endqualifiedimmunity

  4. I hope you know that the police, the prosecutors, public defenders, tow companies and the judges are on one side and you are on the other, and you are standing there poking the bear! One day you will bite into something that you cannot spit out or swallow, then you will find yourself unable to get out of that trouble. Ron W4BIN

  5. Why do you think they wanna ban cop watching? Anybody wanting u not to see or have evidence of what they doing wrong l. Criminals dont want you seeing their transgressions

  6. The police have too much unregulated authority …ITS WE THE TAX PAYERS WHO FUND THE POLICE. THEN THEY SHALL DO AND BE OBLIGATED ALSO SUBJECTED BY THE FREEDOMS OF THE AMERICAN CITIZENS. ACCOUNTABILITY SHOULD BE MANDATED BY A “ THIRD PARTY “. To uphold civil and CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. . OTHERWISE WHAT TYPE OF COUNTRY DO WE LIVE IN. FREEDOM COMES AT A COST. ALWAYS HAVE BEEN AND STILL IS. …

  7. Amen …it CRIMINAL TO VIOLATE CIVIL RIGHTS AND CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. …ITS A SHAME IN SO CALLED FREE AMERICA …THE POLICING TECHNIQUES HARRASS FREE CITIZENS. . WERE STILL FIGHTING THE EVIL …THAT MARTINI LUTHER KING WAS EXPOSING. .

  8. Comment 2: Proof? Try: State Calif JCC (Judicial Council Ca) 2006 $ Raised Study… Los Angeles County25% Ca population… Raised 45% JCC Fund$$$

  10. More people are watching a traffic stop from the beginning and remember what they've learned about the cops coercing us into giving up rights and begin standing up to the next cop who pulls them over.

  11. Thank you for the work you do and the voice alot ot us need, because we didn't even know how our rights were being walked on for so long ,I see the change in the police how thier being more cuashios and paranoid , I think there's gonna be a big overhaul in how they train cadets and show them how to respect our rights and treat us like we're paying their lively hood because we are, untill a law is Broken we need to be treated like they work for us to protect us including our rights because the only ones that violate our rights seems to be the ones we hire to defend those rights
