  1. It was a blue wave, it was just suppressed still Republican Dirty Tricks and Gerrymandering as well. I am surprised anyone would vote Republican any more.

  2. Always great to see Thomas Frank participate in a political discussion. I hope he is right about Trump's tax returns, but it has been 2 months and not a whisper about that yet.

  3. My plan of how and what needs to be done for Progressives to save US.

A Progressive should want to save 3 things — in order of ultimate importance.

. . 1] Humanity or civilization from extinction from AGW.

. . 2] Democracy in America from the plutocrats.

    . . 3] Capitalism from itself (again).

The steps in order are —

. . 1] Take over either the Dem or the green Party in the next year. By mobilizing in the streets. March once a month for the next year to show ourselves and the parties that this is working, that we have huge numbers of voters ready to vote, and we are mad as hell and (we sure as hell) are not going to take it any longer.

. . 2] Try to get the current office holders and other leaders of all parties to get with the program. Find a way to be sure they mean it and will not backslide. Absent this, replace them.

. . 3] Nominate Progressive candidates in the chosen party to run against and replace for the next general election all the current office holders of that party who DON'T GET WITH OUR PROGRAM.

. . 4] Meet in peaceful demonstrations and marches in the streets every week during the local primary season. Show everyone our power in numbers. Get out the Primary vote or go to the local causus.

. . 5] At some point formalize our actual legislative agenda. I suggest —

. . . . . a] For the duration of the AGW crisis we should consider the crisis as if it is as serious as WWII.

. . . . . b] This means we will adopt MMT as our guiding theory of macroeconomics. Deficits don't matter if we all die from heat stroke as a result of AGW.

. . . . . c] Enact a new Manhattan Project to create the new tech necessary to win the war on AGW.

. . . . . d] Create a massive industrial base to make the new stuff to implement the war on AGW.

. . . . . e] A law to regulate how the states conduct elections for Federal offices. Including end FPTP voting with 2nd choice voting. {And House district boundaries drawn by neutral commission.]

. . . . . f] A law to reimpose conditions on broadcast TV licenses. Specifically, 1 hour of news per day and 2 on Sundays that shall not have any commercials and be in the public interest, including being true.

    . . . . . g] Medicare for all.

    . . . . . h] Raise the minimum wage to $15/hr.

  4. Hey if we don't get climate change fixed, EVERYBODY will suffer, including the oligarchs. If we can make the oligarchs understand that, we might survive. This is what matters, nothing else.

  5. A lesson from Canadian politics. With a razor-thin majority in the Senate, this result will keep Senators in their seats working on business rather than campaigning and fund-raising, for they need full turnouts for every vote. We are used to close splits. It keeps the politicians working for today the way they are supposed to do. It encourages compromise, which is generally a good thing. With more than two parties, Canada gets Minority governments who often produce the best legislation. Some compromise is essential to avoid gov't shutdowns over intransigent partisan issues. These midterm results will raise the US foreign image. Intelligent compromise is great for lowering party hatreds. The president is far more isolated in his extreme paranoid views.

  6. what about the investigation of pay to play and the fraud of the Clinton foundation? what about the theft of IRS TARGETING conservatives. civil war !

  7. The Democrats are beholden to their corporate donors, just like the GOP! Now they will just pretend that they are working for their constituents, while their corporate donors and poverty pimping (Do-Nothing-For-The-People) "non-profits" get their cut!

  8. 13:40 — Hopefully what this means is that a new People's Party grows out of the pile of shit that the government has turned into and demolishes both the Republicans AND the Republicrats. Why wasn't there a Green Wave??? Answer: because people WASTED their time, money and effort on Justice Democrats and all the other organizations that wasted their time trying to swim upstream with the Republicratic party.

  9. If the Democratic party is not the party of the working people, then, I've been voting for the wrong politicians! What the "D's" have always run on is to be the party of the people. We now find out that for 50 years, they have been the party of the corporations, basically. I'll be Independent from here on.

  10. Rural voters are voting Republican/conservative. I listened to interviews, with rural voters, and they are so ill informed, and until they can see that urban voters are in the same boat, it will not change. They kind of view urban people as the enemy, and they think we think they are a bunch of stupid hicks. I don't think they are stupid, I just think they are limited in the information they are receiving.

  11. They will continue to PRETEND theyre saving us from the Republicans while they enrich their own big money donors; just like the Republicans do

  12. Obviously great content and incredibly vital insights … but, DEAR GOD! Does no one have the wherewithal to lead whoever is having the coughing fit out of the room?
Is there no intern to bring them into a hallway and get them a glass of water?
Who directs / produces a show that has no response to a simple coughing attack?
Folks! You gotta step it up at least a little.
As always, thank you for your valuable contribution to our nation's conversation, but SWEET JESUS! Please!

  13. Whoever that was that coughed all through this video should have excused themselves and gone home.
It was very distracting during the whole video!

  14. When the two parties become the Democratic Party on the right and a real progressive party on the left, this is the best when are going to get. It doesn’t help to vote Green and get Fascists

  15. Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are a HUGE problem. We would be better off if Nancy Pelosi had lost to a Republican, she's an absolutely worthless leader. Chuck Schumer is almost worse, he can't whip votes for shit. The Democrats are committing political suicide keeping those clowns in leadership

  16. Clintonism ruined the Democratic party.

Progressives didn't overwhelm, but they did not do badly either. Sort of the same as more so-called "mainstream" Dems. Of course, the party machinery will ignore some results and emphasize others.

  17. You should cut the first seconds and replace them by an entry curtain of TRN, else it looks a bit amateurish entrance.

The end cut was also very forced. Needs some editing fast.

Otherwise cool, except for that person having a very bad cough attack… control should have cut her mic.

Sorry for being critical but friendly critical. A lot of mishaps on an otherwise quite interesting conversation.

  18. Yes, Jay. But it all comes back to Frank's question: "Where's the plan to put this thing in reverse." And AGAIN, you conveniently avoid THE ONE question that needs to be answered. 26 minutes all to avoid the very thing you assembled for. Pathetic.
I have two sayings b/c of the past 10 pathetic years of BOTH parties.
#1 "The first thing change needs to change is the words we use." (This 26 minute avoidance diatribe proves my point – in spades.)
#2 "Credible Threat." Where/WHO (to Frank's point) is…represents the undeniable "Credible Threat" that confronts and castrates the enemy? Where…Who…When? Frank, I ask you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. This woman Jacqueline Luqman is the gem on this panel. Who the hell is she? She's brilliant. Why is she NOT out front of everything on ALL media…

  20. You just nailed it. "This whole thing is about 2020…" and why you're totaling neglecting the additional youth and Latino and now Blexit voters in 2020. This/that changes everything.

  21. FRANK hands you the question and you walk right by it. Effing Morons.
"Where's the plan to put this thing in reverse…?" And you all sit there brain-dead and INSTANTLY change the subject.

  22. Dr. Khalilah Harris – you missed it. You came tantalizingly close, but you missed it. Specifically, you mentioned that Ben Jealous may have lost b/c he didn't est. dems to support him and that this sends a signal to others choosing to dis the est. ie. progressives like myself. WRONG!
Look at Gillum in Florida. He lost (it will come to be known) that he flip flopped on MFA. Period!
Just the exact opposite of your theory.
I hoped and was heartened that he got defeated. Why? Precisely b/c (as you CORRECTLY say) the Black voter is going to Blexit AWAY from the est and TOWARD the SINCERE alternative.
And now numb-nuts Bernie needs to get real…get his game on…and stop fucking lying to the ppl; MFA is Economic Empowerment and Economic Empowerment is THE IMPERATIVE!

  23. At 4:25. This woman Jacqueline Luqman NAILS IT! It's all you need to know to a) know the truth, b) know who and what to support (not the est. dems), c) where NOT to waste/expend your energies. "…more of nothing…and why this was NOT a blue wave…"

  24. Yes, positive inroads were made democratically this week. Yes, seeing far right weirdos lose ground in the house is a sign of possible upward change. That being said, will we finish the job? It is merely the beginning of the evolution our country needs to go through in order to save our species. Furthermore, we as a country have been in a similar place before. After the civil rights legislation both sides of the debate just decided to drop the subject, and look what happened. We have left all of the hard questions till the end of the test, and we are running out of time to come up with answers. We need to keep going!
