In October of 1966, the Black Panther Party was founded in Oakland, California. Since then, the Panthers have been a driving radical force for Black liberation, self-defense, and community organization and self-determination. In this special episode of Rattling the Bars commemorating the 55th anniversary of the founding of the BPP, TRNN Executive Producer and former Lieutenant of Security for the Baltimore chapter of the Black Panther Party Eddie Conway speaks with Black Panther Party archivist Bill Jennings about the legacy of the Panthers and how people are carrying on that legacy today.

  1. Grand rising and power to the people! The panther legacy has left an indelible mark on history, society and the black community. This will never end. The government involved terrorism of the peoples party will not be forgotten either. It was mentioned that the Black Panther Party was propagandized as a "black nationalist hate party"…well the same can be said for the for the "white nationalist hate party." They have not only taken on the slogan of the founders of the Black Panther Party, (Black Power) they're using the "fist" gesture as well as the organizing tactics of the BPP!!! Yet, without surprise, they are thriving today w/o interference from the government. No, the Black Panther Party is not dead. Its being usurped. To all our "Cubs" Gen X'ers, we have the knowledge and the power to stand on the platform built for us. We must maintain it or we wil bel a disgrace to our ancestors and a failure to our future. Respect and power to our fallen he/sheros and to our living leaders. Grand anniversary Brothas and Sistas!!!

  2. Don't see the fools fighting about police or anything so how are the ignorant uneducated fools around after 55 years maybe in prison or something. Not like they have a bit of balls like B L M or make any change lately but still hang in like Jacob Zuma or that fool from Zimbabwe! You idiots cat make a thing work!

  3. Historicism and public nostalgia is also business … Imagine the real black panthers (the animals) are mostly all dead extinct in reality. What legacy !!

  4. Y'all should change the name to the Bangle Tiger Party, as they are black and white, we all need to fight for freedom, this is not just a black problem as we all are facing our right's being abolished, strength in numbers.
    🧔 🗣 🐃🐐

  5. As I remember it as a 71 year old liberal the violence of the Black Panthers and Weathermen did more to end the Peace movement then the FBI. I don’t give a shit about their murals. Combine the Weathermen, Black Panthers they lead to Kent State and fear. Violence is never the answer! Is that what you want to repeat?

  6. I'd like to know what y'all think about this new Black Panthers Party that's in Houston Texas I believe? And, have y'all reached out to former members who are incarcerated like Mumia Abu Jamal & others for their input? Congratulations on your 55th year commemoration!

  7. Respect for the freedom fighters. Free all the political prisoners in US. Don't forget to tune in to black power media's black panther party 55th founding anniversary commemorative stream.
