The American Petroleum Institute spent over half of that total on contracts with the PR giant Edelman, says Kert Davies of Climate Investigations Center.

  1. I’ve seen this first hand here in Colorado! They spent millions here before the 2018 election and turned a ballot measure to increase setbacks that was polling at like 70% yes into 60% no! They literally were every other ad online, TV, radio, etc. They bought the minds of my fellow Coloradans sadly.

And now they’ve started the ads again because the governor we voted in is changing the whole way the oil and gas industry is regulated here, to take it from pro-industry to pro-environment and health instead.

It’s insane how they flooded our minds and this should not be at all legal!

  2. The fossile fuel industry still has great hopes to make a lot of money for decades to come even though they know they have to eventually reallocate their capital. So of course they try to set more and more themselves on energy methods that are believed to replace their current source of enrichment. It is no problem for them to Green wash themselves, because they know that even if most electric energy may finally (the sooner the better) be generated by solar and wind, this amounts to merely 1/4 to 1/3 of all energy use in the US. So the fossile fuel industry fully expects to be around for many decades. The real threat for the fossil fuel industry is not green technology. Nuclear energy is the only carbon neutral energy form that has actually the potential to end the need for fossile fuels in shorter time and at a lower cost than renewables, solar and wind. It’s even possible and would be quite in the interest of the fossile fuel industry to actively spread more fear of nuclear power, especially among environmentalists.

  3. The pipeline they put through after the Indigenous people stood up against it (Standing Rock) has already leaked at least 8 times. This is the norm everywhere…they all leak. Water is Life!

  4. "the petroleum association is classified as a charity"? wtf? so they promote and advertise the fossil fuels that make them billions, and also get to lobby against renewables, in tax-free status. smh.

  5. Thank you for this solid, insightful reporting of the kind we DON'T get from the major corporate media outlets- that is to say, the ones making so much money running the very same advertisements. It reminds me of the heavy advertising for sugary cereals that saturated the time between my favorite Saturday morning cartoons when I was a child… and they're just as bad for us.

  6. The problem here is America's car culture.
Car culture converts oil and gas into products with a higher value than that of the capital advanced.
Kill car culture and oil and gas will be treated as the natural elements they are, lethal.
