From ‘Dead Man Walking’ to abolishing the death penalty – Everything Law and Order Blog

From her world-famous book Dead Man Walking to a life spent educating the public about the inhumanity of the death penalty, the work of activist nun Sister Helen Prejean is known around the globe. What is less widely known is the story of how Sister Helen came to do this work and, as the description for her latest memoir River of Fire notes, how she evolved in her “spiritual journey from praying for God to solve the world’s problems to engaging full-tilt in working to transform societal injustices.” In this special conversation for Rattling the Bars, TRNN Executive Producer Eddie Conway speaks with Sister Helen about River of Fire and about the deep historical roots of the racist, colonialist violence that is embodied today in America’s prison-industrial complex.

  1. Great to see Eddie back! He had some health problems but he's back enough to do this interview — hope your recovery continues brother, we need your experience and insights.

  2. There’s a 6 part none political video out called [Satan’s New World Order – 2013 Film] Originally recorded in the 1960’s it dares to shed light on the psyche of the Grand Designers of the NWO/WEF.

  3. Here is hope!!!!! We have become a society where the police are not subject to the very laws they enforce. They call it qualified immunity and disguise it "in the interest of public safety " With the cooperation of the state attorney's office, office of the public defender, and the local magistrate. Police officers do not work as public servants but rather enforcers for the government. When they are accountable to no one but themselves. Not investigated by anyone but themselves. This is allowed and accepted by everyone in the community due to fear and intimidation. The only way to change is to start holding ALL POLICE accountable and have a civilian task force elected by the community to oversee all arrests, evidence, and witnesses before a trial date is set

  4. every day the tyrants work tirelessly to steal from us and remove their accountability. once in a while we get a small victory. every year they add thousands upon thousands of laws to persecute the citizens as they farm us and strip us of the ability to earn and live freely

  5. For the sake of discussion, suppose that Dostoevsky's killer in "Crime and Punishment" ingested bath salts before the deed. How would that story have changed? The manner of the crime would have been far more ostentatious and indisputably inculpating. So then, on an extreme enough scale following, all defense becomes insanity defense. But that is wrong.

  6. she didn't sound too cool when she said something to the effect – "I expected a black man but he was white. Then I said to myself, hey, this is a human being" . Didn't rub me too well anyhoo

  7. The death penalty necessary for those criminals that deserve it why don't you fight for abolish qualified immunity for cops and judges

  8. I kind of agree with a lot of the stuff that she saying she’s quite right but most people seem to ignore the native communities when they talk about reparations. Native American still get arrested for traveling under their tribal IDs up until August 17, 2021 Native Americans could still be hunted down and killed for a bounty upon their scalps in Colorado. Before people pretend that Native Americans were a part of everything no Native Americans were allowed to own property in the constitution, that means if they knew you were Native American you could not legally own property or slaves or anything else.

To this day native Americans still don’t get the same rights under constitutions because they possess a non-recognized “foreign” Native American ID.

  9. It takes willingness of all races to stop racial hate. Pointing fingers and feeding histories hates will do nothing to make life better for anyone. Acting as if one side is at fault denies reality and will never give equality for everyone.

  10. I guess I’m not gonna take the time to listen to this cause I know my stance on , We can do away with the death penalty when children and women and innocent people stop being tortured murdered.
