From Standing Rock and J20 to the US Capitol: Who gets treated like the enemy? – Everything Law and Order Blog

We’ve seen this so many times before, but it never ceases to shock: The brutal disparity between law enforcement’s response to far-right insurgents and its response to Black, Indigenous, and social justice protests reveals which side the “establishment” sees as the enemy. This week on “The Marc Steiner Show,” we discuss these disparities with a panel of guests who have seen and reported on them firsthand—from Standing Rock, to racial justice protests this summer, to the J20 protests at Donald Trump’s inauguration. After the grim spectacle that took place at the U.S. Capitol earlier this month, we ask: Why do police roll out the red carpet for far-right insurgents and reserve tear gas and rubber bullets for Black, Indigenous, and social justice protesters?

Our panel today includes Aaron Cantú, an investigative journalist whose writing has been featured in outlets like The Nation, Rolling Stone, and The Intercept, and who was himself a defendant in the J20 trials; Angela Lang, executive director of Black Leaders Organizing for Communities (BLOC) and vice president of the ACLU of Wisconsin Board of Directors; and Dalton Walker, Red Lake Anishinaabe, who is a national correspondent at Indian Country Today.

  1. Let's all quit dancing around it and call it what it is, the police are the Klan. They are the blue Klux Klan and their sole purpose is to dominate and oppress people of color, the poor, the mentally ill. They are liscensed to kill with almost complete impunity. Why has our representatives done nothing to check them? Because the representatives are not of or for us. They serve the same masters as these klansmen..corporate America. Proof…they have no problem giving their masters tax payers money but anything given back to us is always a matter of contention and debate.

  2. I do not get this. If these three were really leaders of their respective groups that have historically lost each and every encounter (individually), then why, not only these three, but each and every other leader and organization create a coalition of POC that will give us at least a punisher's chance because separately we do not have enough leverage and will continually lose ad infinitum — that is, again and again in the same way…(forever!).

  3. A thousand years the Indigenous en black community are on the yoke from white suprématie is in command of this nation, I think it's time to change the executive infiltration of power, is time now to change infrastructure such as the right to health, the right to universal income, to the distribution of wealth, the right to social housing, to an independent justice that does not belong to power . We must stop this racial neurosis which leads to injustices whatever the colours of your skin . I hope that the new president Joe Biden will take note of the injustice committed for decades . We are aware of the need to menage the climat problems, to find new clean énergies, to grow organic crops to eat healthily, to stop operating the factories that pollute as well as the Kars . Work needs to bee done in the localities with the citizens who have elected their uncorrupted governor . If everything is done for ecology there will be work for the citizens with income which allows them to live in dignity. We must punich the police who have killed innocent people, justice must in to account the murders that took place in difference state, we must release the people who are in prison because they lack money to pay a lawyer. We must hunt capital flight in tax heavens. It's necessary to write in the American constitution that any racist, xenophobia act is punched by justice, I now no body is perfect, but is very important to live in the country stable for all, peace from USA en hope for the best, from Belgium sylvie

  4. So, who is uniting the people against current status? Do you guys really think change comes from above, from the political Class, or rather from below? By the way, Mark is right.

  5. Anyone who doesn't see the set up the 20th sht show was , isn't paying the least bit attention. The soap opera drama 'narrative' is pure MOCKINGBIRD !

  6. Trumps group are non violent and are fight for there constitutionally protected rights and a corrupt government! Biden wants people to distrust trump because they don’t want the truth to come out! The people did not elect Biden judging by the crowds the want trump not Biden!

  7. Contrast Trump’s family gleefully strolling down Pennsylvania Avenue in 2017 with Biden’s Inauguration under Military lockdown. Although Trump was unable to steal everything back, an indelible scar, smear, and stain are on America forever. In that sense, January 6, 2021 was Trump’s greatest victory.
