  1. GM is a very untrustworthy and greedy company. Imagine how worse they would be if they were not a union shop. They, Holden pulled out of Australia years ago.

  2. 7:40 SAM GINDIN: Because we can't say we're going to have a democracy where corporations have the right to do whatever they want, and we can't do anything about it, even though it completely restructures and reshapes our lives.

Part of what the free trade agreement is really about is constitutionalizing the right of corporations to do that.

That's the problem with free trade agreements. It's not really about trade, it's about saying you can go wherever you want, produce wherever you want and ship it into wherever you want.

What we're actually going to have to say is:
Democracy demands that we get some control over capital. We can't have a democracy of capital that's free to do what it wants. And that's going to be the fight that we have to really get into.

We're going to have to limit and control capital flows, whether it's of General Motors or whether it's finance, and they're going to have to ask, well how do we want to use that capital?

  3. Trump gave them the tax cuts and the incentives to stay in the u.s., gm took advantage again. GM ceo said that because the economy was good it was good for them to downsize now to survive better in the future. Does that make sense? How about, make a better product instead of cheap unreliable junk.

  4. what do you expect GM builds junk you know why cheap parts period look at honda or other japanese cars they took over the motorcycles or outboards yamaha makes the best outboards.

  5. All new vehicles should have a mandatory sticker about where is car is manufactured also full disclosure where the parts are made and post it on car for sale @ dealerships. Than let the consumer decide if they want to boycott the cars made in china …

  6. Put it to the corporations this way. Whatever that product would cost you to have made 100% in the United States, materials and all, is the amount of tax difference that they will have to pay to have their stuff still made outside of the U.S. That way whatever the difference is, the money still stays in our economy. And if you want to buy from other countries, their products, then you pay a tax of what the difference would be, the same as if one had just instead bought it inside the U.S. itself. May be this is how to internalize and force other countries to not be so dependant on everyone else to such an extreme. It will help everyone to be a little more self sufficient.
    But I'm not an economist.

  7. Everyone is waking up, TOO LATE. We have reached and passed many global warming tipping points and there is no longer anything we can do. We are ALL going to suffer and die soon. WHY didn't we do this sooner? Human nature. Bye Bye.

  8. No one is talking about the driving force behind all of this. The union is asking for more money for employees. So this is what you get. Don’t worry Toyota Honda and Nissan all have 10 year plans to take over the suv and truck market. They did it with cars they will do it with suv and trucks. And imports are actually made in America. Ironic?

  9. Let us taxpayers keep bailing these so called American companies out because we are so patriotic, that is how they thank us. Lets support companies that build quality stuff and keep jons in this country regardless of the name brand.

  10. Most of these GM workers voted for Trump and because they wanted change.
Well, they got a change alright and I bet most of them still support Trump and willing to vote for him in 2020.

  11. I will never buy a new car unless it's made in the and i would rather let GM fail and i hope hope GM gets the message soon from all Americans who give a shit .

  12. Capitalism at its finest. The elite doesn't care for the workers. It's all about profits, not financial stability for the workers.

  13. You can't build cars that are not selling GM is a business but the employees will be offered over the next few years transfers in the meantime they will get unemployment get hungry and learn to respect the new job that's offered to them we live in a world where change happens I took my transfer after being laid off 15 months it was very tuff to leave everything and everyone I knew but I had a family and I wanted to raise my children have medical insurance s roof over them food all the best for them hard choice I know but like I said God and GM will offer them away but unfortunately it will be up to them to make a decision

  14. If the employees will transfer they will get a job at GM I was facing the same thing in 1979 was out of work from GM only the ones like me that was willing to got job I had to move 1200 miles from my family and friends but my family got a roof over there and my head's and today I am retired the plant here closed in 2010 but everyone got transferred to other plants that still needed time before retirement

  15. The President and tariffs have nothing to do with people not buying cars! GM is going to stop making small cars that have less steel in them. And step up production on trucks ,suv's, and crossovers that take more steel to produce. You can't force people to buy small shitty cars they don't want no matter who's in office. If i remember correctly it was Obama, and his administration that gave GM a bailout with our tax money! If you want to be mad at the president be mad at the last one!

  16. GM has been selling over priced crap for a long time. They don't give a shit about their customer base, just the bottom line. Their employees are greedy as hell, just like the company. They would have gone out of business a looong time ago if it wasn't for special rules (like allowing GE to pump it's profits into company to keep it from shutting down), tax cut (over and over again)etc. They should have let them fail decades ago. Put bail out money to up, and comers instead. GM would be forced to pull their head out of their ass, or die. NEVER should have aloud them to monopolize, bringing down all those other companies. Without the monopolies we likely would have about 20 car companies (lots of competition).

  17. This iscthe kind of capitalism republicans want "socialist capitalism" socialist because as soon as they are in trouble the government helps them with bailouts and tax breaks, in a true capitalism market they will sink, since the consumers are the ones who dictate who survives

  18. What if the reason so many people are being laid off is because GM is selling less cars? Can you really blame GM for making cuts to keep up with with it's decrease demand? It sucks loosing a job but it might just be because Americans are buying more cheaper foreing cars. America did this to itself.

  19. What happened I mean they were just bailed out I said this the last time they should have sold all of their inventory two for one buy one car get one free I see how that helps number two sometime you have to get or get no increase in pay and benefits or maybe so decrease and pay but there's no need for the CEO number to Forbes Magazine of the money maker at General Motors how many people could be made paid buy just her salary she made 21 billion dollars last year I'm not bailing nobody out somebody making that kind of money for nothing

  20. Don't worry all of these people can move to California, Florida, Seattle and work in farms picking up fruits and vegetables we're always hiring U.S Citizens.
