Gore Vidal on the Future (6/7) – Everything Law and Order Blog

When Julian Assange was arrested in London, he was carrying a copy of our book, Gore Vidal: History of the National Security State

Vidal: “I was born 80 years ago in a country called the United States of America, and now I live in a Homeland–an expression we haven’t heard since Hitler.”

  1. It's amazing how the post Reagan Republican groups ended up in total surrender to Trump…without doubt the worst, most corrupt and most damaging POTUS in history.

  2. Even in his decline, he is still sharper than anyone around. He knew the US empire was due to collapse. He deserved a few too many cocktails near the end; he'd already told us so much.

  3. So glad Hitchens called Vidal out on his post-9/11 nonsense and piffle.

Vidal, a once great man, truly went loco post-9/11. Just like Chomsky, Finkelstein, Said et al.

  4. Americans haven't been able to call a spade a spade since the national security state was instituted back in '47 by that little numbskull Truman. Since then it hasn't mattered who was president from what party or barely who was in control of Congress except AIPAC, and the continuous funding of our forever wars. That super power belief because of nuclear weapons is a joke, just like the inside job of 9/11. Trump shouldn't go further than four years like Carter or HW, but a dangerous constitutional convention is in the making by the Rethuglicans.

  5. "Make a lot of money and screw everybody else" that's the American policy now. Vidal's words rang true. What have we done in Europe to get such a treatment by the neo-cons!

  6. At 2:18, Gore said, " 2 + 2 is not possible in the United States of Alzheimer's ". Welcome to the USA! Maybe this could be a useful reference when referring to the unending fact that voters repeatedly vote for the Dem. and Repub. parties, the two main parties, which irrefutably are both guilty of war crimes and many other extreme crimes against humanity; internationally but also nationally. After all, people suffering from Alzheimer's disease have a serious difficulty with remembering anything. It's often that way anyway. Later, Gore, speaking of his thoughts about what the future might be in the USA, said maybe revolution. Well, this whole series is from 2005 to 2007 according to the text description for part 1, and the US hasn't yet had a revolution, while it's now 2019. Imo, there's no foreseeable revolution in the USA; no seriously significant revolution anyway. I do appreciate some of what he said so far, so in parts 1 to 6 of 7, and of course he shouldn't be treated as if he was omniscient, for he wasn't and no human has ever been, none will ever be. But, I don't expect much serious revolution in the USA anytime soon.

  7. 300 years of US world dominance and "superiority" is going to the end. All empires collapsed, and history repeats itself with regard to US and future superpowers. China is becoming the new one to fulfill the next 300 years cycle, and after China – there will be Russia , I believe.
