How liberal comedians became lap dogs for establishment power w/Lee Camp | The Chris Hedges Report – Everything Law and Order Blog

The fusion of politics, news, and entertainment has given prominence to comics like Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, and Bill Maher, who serve as attack dogs for the Democratic Party, which has joined forces with the establishment wing of the old Republican Party against Donald Trump and his supporters. By belittling Trump and his followers, these comics feed the smug, self-righteousness of the ruling establishment, bolstering their sense of moral and intellectual superiority. All the while, they remain comfortably constrained by the corporations and advertisers that employ them. They function as court jesters, never questioning the right of the rulers to rule or the terrible social injustices built into a rigged system. They serve as attack dogs for establishment power, directing their comedic barbs at critics of the system, even if these critics come from the left. Comedian and political commentator Lee Camp joins The Chris Hedges Report to discuss the transformation of comedy from an art form rooted in the counterculture to one that has largely become a megaphone for power.

Lee Camp is a comedian, political commentator, and former head writer and host of the national TV show Redacted Tonight with Lee Camp on RT America. He’s a former contributor to The Onion, former staff humor writer for HuffPost, and his web series “Moment of Clarity” has been viewed by millions. Camp has toured the country and the world with his fierce brand of standup comedy, and George Carlin’s daughter, Kelly, credited him as one of the few comics keeping her father’s torch lit. His website is www.LeeCamp.com.

  1. You had me until you started getting to woke in comedy.. People have the right to walk out, but ultimately comedy has but one job and that is to be funny. Societal mores and common sense will decide what is funny or objectionable and the market will bear the outcome which will ultimately decide whether the comedian can work or not, not mandates at any level….period.

  2. I remember seeing on youtube Seth Meyers bringing on Hilary Clinton onto his show. Meyers is an establishment shill who pretends he is edgy and brings on Clinton who supported both the 2003 Iraq war and attacking Libya in 2011

  3. Lee Camp has a lot of bad takes. Dave Chappell is one. Has Lee even seen the Chapelle specials if he did I can’t respect him as a critical thinker.

  4. No, he obviously hasn’t looked too closely into the trans issue, or been affected by it, to dismiss it as some kind of weird obsession for Chappelle. It’s one of the biggest moral and social issues of our time, which he’ll figure out eventually I guess.

  5. Thanks to The Real News for Chris Hedges

I've been following The Real News since the early 2000s and find that so many of the stories are told from MY perspective, not what I SHOULD believe

But most of all, thank you for keeping Chris Hedges on the air.

He is one of the most important American journalists today in history and despite all that's been done to silence him, thanks to you I can still hear his voice.

    Bravo 👏

  6. Comedy hits best when it makes us self reflect and when we do, we laugh at our own absurdity

The woke cannot self reflect and therefore cannot comprehend comedy. They take a joke about them and become offended because they are shown publicly how absurd they are and can't laugh at themselves.

If you can't laugh at yourself, you have no business pointing fingers or laughing at anyone else. You need therapy, not social media.

  7. Dave's comedy is anti trans?

Feel like trying to critique his comedy is low key racist.

Let's just all throw around labels and assume dumb shit.
    Lmao.

Lee Camp reporting was on point, his comdey was mostly garbage and his show came off corny because of it.

  8. Chappelle is making a point that no shield is too sensitive by telling the trans jokes. That’s how i interpret it. Dude looks like zelensky..that kinda sucks.

  9. I thought it was really interesting how Denis Miller and his talk show was immediately gone right at the beginning the Bush administration. They shut him up…and wasn't he Republican?

  10. I remember the first time Al Franken got in trouble with the establishment. He said something that landed him in hot water and his out was, " it was satire" . Lol exact words, and with that he got off.

  11. Actually, Molly Ivens was a comedian of a savage sort, while not making her career on stage as a stand-up comic. Art Buchwald was a similar sort of individual as well. This satire helped lay the groundwork for these later comedians to tackle current political issues.

  12. The Israel-Palestine conflict is complex, and there are valid arguments on both sides. Supporters of Israel often emphasize its right to exist as a sovereign state and its need for security due to past conflicts. On the other hand, supporters of the Palestinian cause highlight the need for self-determination and an end to occupation, as well as the humanitarian impact of the conflict on Palestinian civilians. Constructive dialogue and a peaceful resolution are essential to address this longstanding issue.

  13. I wish Lee Camp could’ve provided at least one specific example of so-called woke culture being damaging to comedy. Otherwise, this was an insightful and stimulating conversation.

  14. And they still are. They still pretend the steele dossier was real. Leftists hate truth, beauty, freedom and the human spirit.
