Trump’s grants of clemency for his cronies and Fox News friends have almost exclusively gone to people who are themselves accused of violating the justice system.

  3. There are two systems of justice. One for the ruling class, the other for the civilians. Martha Stewart served time in prison. But political pawns and those who commit violent crimes, example, the military man Trump pardoned who brutally had tortured many in Afghanistan, was forgiven without consequence. Gina H. , the former CIA person notorious for torture, has a job in the executive branch.

  4. If it's legal then it's not undermining…

How can a news channel cover citizen journalists so well yet produce crap like this…

And no I don't like Trump I think he's a loud mouth buffoon. But this isn't news this is an appeal to emotion fallacy and an OPED which you should label it as such… No facts are in this story at all it's pure speculation and unsubstantiated claims and it's dishonest.

  5. I'm certainly no expert on the how of it, but I believe there has to be some check on the use of clemency. There's a tension between benefits and drawbacks, but that goes to the heart of responsible governing – weighing those elements through the lens of public interest and striving to assure justice is done (and not undone).

  6. A post-Founding justification of the Pardoning Power, such as Corwin's: it's part of the separation of powers, needed for the president to protect himself and his administration from attacks and overreaching by the other branches of government.

  7. Its modeled after the British Constitutional Monarchy and King having ultimate powers of pardon came to real use in their war against the Scottish rebellions who wanted a Catholic king on the throne as opposed to the British who wanted a Protestant king on the throne. A war that ended the Scottish nobiltity and the highlander way of life of clan lords and serfs during the mid 1700s. The series Outlander portrays this history is worth watching the educate yourself,. This guest delivers a thin answer to the question of why have it? If an academic does not have it I am imagining the ordinary citizen does not get it either. But it should, as thin as his answer was, give you an idea that a constitutional convention to modify the constitution of its criminal code should have happened sometime after the Civil War so we would not be living under an antiquated system that easily re-instates absolutism of a by-gone era. His main answer is correct, it was a tool to release friends and allies loyal to the cause, from prison.

Clemency powers also works in the reverse, should a revolution against the Trump happen those leading the fight if captured could have their commuted sentences or parole rescinded protects the status quo. This is why a political revolution cannot be half-assed in the US, the population has to be in the majority, to amend the criminal code, just like the tax code, and any other code written up such as the Sedition Act, can be repealed when the population has complete control of both houses and congress overriding the president and when 24 states are dominated by the people can the constitution be amended. Its not that it cannot happen it means the people have to be united, of one mind, no splits, divisions, and competing rivalries, to the contrary, have to be a movement. A far cry from where the American people sit now, are the least revolutionary people on the planet, until that movement pinches their arses, and inflames the feel and desire for real change into a full blown revolutionary movement, and so voted for Obama and the Trump, but got two people who delivered little to no change, are now seeking for that change in Bernie.

  8. Trump is a crook so there can be no surprise by his releasing fellow crooks from prison. Trump also loads the courts with people who would free him should he ever be made accountable for his misdeeds. Justice and democracy, as well as socialism, are only for those who can afford to buy them.

  9. We're going to investigate who funds the RNN. It's seems everything you put out is tainted with a propaganda spin. Why don't you cover the more than 700 Obama pardons/commuted sentences. Did you scrutinize any of them? I wonder what else Blago knows about what went on in Chicago back in 2007-2008. You people only kick over the rocks that advance a narrative agenda and even if there's nothing there or just the usual fucked up political favoritism, you AHAH! say look what we found.Journalism has become the new activism. It's pathetic what you do to the craft.

  10. No doubt he does. Look at what's happening to Julian Assange. You guys are going to cover the Assange extradition trial correct? Or do you not care about the 1st amendment?

  11. White collar crime isn't usually even considered crime by the friends and spouses of these people. I doubt you'll hear much outrage about this from the investor class.

  12. Brilliant point.
Granting pardons should be for forgiving enemies of the State, not rewarding friends and allies for breaking the law on your behalf.

  13. Correct me if I'm wrong, you live cards didn't Obama pardon cartel individuals. And others like them. There was no hyperbolic statements then. . Nothing illegal. And do you know all the facts? Before you make these judgments?

  14. I would love to see when Bernie is president he pardons everybody that is in jail/prison for victimless crimes.
break that prison industry in a single blow.

  15. This is what makes us weak as a people. The ones who do great damage spend the least amount of time, and therefore aren't deterred in the least from doing that damage.
These people didn't deserve pardons just because he feels like 8 years is a long time! If that's the case, he should let everyone in for drugs out right now.

  16. Donald Trump the orange menace is a shallow, narcissistic, mendacious, boorish, obnoxious, pretentious, ignorant, arrogant, con artist liar and extremely dangerous man. A pitifully shallow and ill-disciplined man, emotionally handicapped by obscene privilege and cognitively crippled by white American chauvinism. But those traits ensure that he is not an outsider, but the perfect representation of his caste — the caste that runs the global economy and governs our politics. He is our system, stripped of its pretenses.
