  1. Could not find Rank-Choice Voting in the Bill. I think it's a no-brainer issue and it may even bring out the largest voting block [the Backside party which stays home when offered no choice and votes with their backside].

  2. If it's not taking money 100% OUT of politics it's not enough. This bill is a half measure that will be killed or neutered with last minute poison pills in secret at the last minute. Corporate dems and republicans will make sure of it. We need DRASTIC reform and we need it fast in my opinion.

  3. Thanks for covering HR1, sadly Pelosi pushed the bill forward for a vote without going through all 10 Committee Hearings. Yes it passed the House, but McConnell stated that he will not let it come to the floor for a vote. If it had the opportunity to go through all of the Committee Hearings, there would not only be more bipartisan support, and assurances that it would be more democratically robust, but it would also have more breadth within the public conversation on politics in the States. I'm sure most people here remember the AOC viral moment where she elaborates how corrupt the system is, and how that actual corruption is in many ways legal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KvP7-YZowI&t=7s
BTW you can read HR1 here: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/1/text

  4. Forcing people to be registered is a bad idea. Ask people if they want to be registered. If they don't want to be, leave them alone. Don't nag them. The next step would be forcing them to vote. What the hell kind of society are people trying to create? Democracy includes the personal choice not to vote. Some people say to include a "no choice" answer to every choice on the ballot. That's so stupid. I can't express how stupid it is.

  5. Last week the corporate dems made it harder for progressive dems to the primary corporate dems. Today the same corporate dems claim to fight voter suppression, but they never investigated or tried to sue the Georgia Governor race that was stolen from one of their up and coming leaders, Stacy Abrams. In a since the Democratic establishment approves of all the tools the right has used that have indirectly benefited them. Corporate Dems are the cancer of our democracy but white america refuses to acknowledge the damage they have caused this country. Its akin to family members refusal to accept that one of their loved ones is a heroin addict.

  6. nice, finally….honestly that is the first ray of hope to come out of congress from corporate dominated democrats in 40 years???????? Nice they blinked.

  7. I don't mind so much a lengthy term in public office as long as the person in it is not corrupted. I don't see this proposal as being without flaws and I haven't even read it.

  8. Of course I haven't read this bill. Marc Steiner says it took him 3 (three) days to read it. But as soon as I heard the part where lobbyists (re: corporate and foreign interests) are still able to put their money to work with the stipulation that they identify themselves with the contribution, I knew it was all meaningless.

  9. Any kind of voting legislation is useless if we still have superdelegates and Interstate Crosscheck. Why isn't Washington's reaming for hand counted paper ballotstobe counted in public.

  10. The DNC lawyers stated in the 2016 election fraud lawsuit, “We can go behind closed doors and smoke cigars and decide who our presidential candidate will be.” The fraud will continue unless we get rid of ALL corporate owned voting machines that contain internal software that allows the manipulation of our elections.

  11. That dude is talking out of his mind!!!!!!! The dems get dead people to vote and other schemes!!!!!!! Where is barrys' birth certificate!!!!!!! Hummmm

  12. Was the issue of IRS 501(c)3 policy stating the “primary” purpose of the non profit vs how the law was written, saying the “exclusive” purpose … was that cleared up after Lois Lerner left?

  13. Marc hit nail on the head when he said it took him 3 days to read this bill – it is a political game. Rep Sarbanes is making a gamer, con artist – he knows this document is unwieldy & will never pass. Repeal Citizens United first! Stick to one issue THEN ban lobbyist. Make it a criminal offense for members of Congress to accept large corporate donations.

  14. We need these things but most importantly, we need real election. We need paper ballots counted by randomly selected citizens out in the open where it can be observed by the citizens of this country. No more corporate owned voting machines. We need a government that is truly of, by and for the people.

  15. Get this passed now…next is overturn Citizens United. Call your Senators and Representatives and let them know they should pass this. Sign any petitions that come your way.

  16. Great idea. Publicly funded political campaigns with equal limited public funds for all candidates. And term limits for all politicians including federal judges.

  17. The public wants the two main parties to release their stranglehold on the apparatus of elections; the public wants the "two" party system to end and says we need a third party (at least) to have a seat at the table, rather than the two corporatist war parties alone. This bill does the opposite; it strengthens that stranglehold by raising the hurdles third parties must leap. This bill is a Trojan horse; the provisions being advertised look great, but look that "gift" horse in the mouth and see what's inside.

    "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts."

This guest sounds like a televangelist claiming that he's worried about your soul while trying to con you into sending him your Social Security check. Listen to the "concern" in his voice and listen closely. Then read (or re-read) the bill and see how it would make things even harder for the will of the American people to end the duopoly.

This bill is indeed a power grab, but not for the Democrats; it's a power grab for both the Democrats and the Republicans, an attempt to keep the Green Party of the United States and the Libertarian Party both powerless, and to keep other third parties even more powerless than the GPUS and the Libertarian Party.

  18. Fabulous piece of legislation but I will be surprised if it gets through. Our government was created for the corrupt and they will die before they stand against corruption and for the people.

  19. I agree with the financing situation…the state of the union of '91 should be revisted. There should also be a 4th requirement added to the presidential requirements such as Moral-Ethics code of conduct as well as if you are an citizen of the usa you have that eligibility to vote regardless of imprisonment etc. #greenparty

  20. No brainer, right? But we will watch helplessly as Congress spits on HR 1 and kicks it to the side, with all the other progressive and libertarian ideas the people want. Pathetic.

  21. If they wanted campaign finance reform they would make the votes in the house and the senate unreportable. It sounds backward but, what lobby would pay for a vote they can't verify? They back it because there are still lobby loopholes.

  22. Ban all lobbying whether domestic or foreign. Get rid of voting machines have paper hand counted ballots, have open primaries and term limits of no more than 10 years for president, 6 for congress, 8 years for governor, council or minor positions like Mayors shouldn't have term limits but re-election every two years.

  23. … and mitch mcconnell will bring it to the floor?
you expect to appeal to his sense of values? can you find it?
and the senate will pass it?
    and Trump will sign it?
or congress will override his veto?
and the supreme court will confirm it?

Since everyone in that chain of tests benefits from the situation as it stands, how can anyone be optimistic?

  24. only corrupt officials are against fair and accurate elections.
anyone against this should be investigated, and probably hanged.
