From endless wars, militarism, and surges in rightwing “populism” to ceaseless capitalist pillage, neoliberal austerity, and botched international responses to COVID-19 and climate change, the events of recent decades should have galvanized the left much more than they have. Instead of representing and fighting for the interests of working people, however, traditional “left” political parties in the West have focused on appealing mainly to the socially liberal sections of the professional middle classes and managing economic decline. Something needs to change. TRNN contributor Radhika Desai speaks with Jeremy Corbyn about the evolution of the UK’s Labour Party in the era of neoliberalism, and about the need for the left to mobilize communities at the local level while building an international political vision.

Jeremy Corbyn has been a Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Islington North district since 1983, making him among the longest serving MPs in the British House of Commons. He served as Leader of the Labour Party and Leader of the Opposition from 2015 to 2020.

  1. not wanting to be locked in your house for no reasen and injected with a vacine just to boost big pharma is aperantly rightwing now

  2. 4:59 "And rumour has it , he's going to start a new Party."
42:25 "Are you going to start a new Party?"
46:40 "With or without a new Party."
My problem is Jeremy never answered this crucial question. I watched with excitement. Four minutes in and Radhika Desai poses the question/rumour. I watched with bated breath throughout the long interview.

Then my heart leapt as at 42:25 Radhika said "Are you going to start a new Party?" Jeremy continued answering but did not respond to the particular question/rumour. It's getting near the end Jermy finishes his sentence and Radhika says almost jokingly "With or without a new Party."

My heart sank. Jeremy did not respond. He totally ignored the one question I was dying to hear him answer. So there you have it. 400,000 new members who joined because he looked like he was going to change our world will hang on to Labour the (right of the)Party that ruined our chance of a better future.

Apart from those expelled by Starmer there are those who have since left (in disgust, including me).

Although Labour is losing it's members and quickly going bankrupt. It'll probably win the next GE as the Tories are so incredibly bad and disliked.

  3. I still love Corbyn, unfortunately, he misread the British working class on the Brexit issue. This, coupled with sabotage by the military industrial MSM complex ensured that a probable win became an ‘almost won’. Very sad!

  4. As a dual citizen (UK & USA) living in London, I watched the rise and fall of Corbin in UK politics. He is a good person that is well meaning…BUT…. He sealed his fate by not directly and decisively stopping the Anti-Semitic tendencies exhibited by some Labour Party members. He appealed to younger voters, but alienated traditional working class Labour voters. Much like Reagan democrats abandoning Carter, his positions caused a catastrophic collapse of Labour support north of London. Idealism is noble, but he needed to bring the base along with him. I wish him well, but he is unelectable in the UK.

  5. The establishment pulled out all the stops to undermine this man. The rapacious oligarchs who have their hands on the levers couldn't stand to see the people better off.

  6. Corbyn policies..free internet for everyone….nationalise water..railways..build thousands of council houses all this on borrowed money…free movement of people(that means open borders)etc;etc;..immigration would have been rampant on this little island..it’s bad enough now…my grandchildren would be paying this countries debt if Corbyn had his way..that’s why he didn’t get voted into parliament…he’s now in obscurity

  7. People are more naturally greedy than benevolent. To be benevolent is a privilege most can not afford to be do. Furthermore, almost all people put their family first. Socialists don't seem to get these concepts….

  8. This is my first exposure to Corbyn outside of second-party mentions. What an awesome guy. Gives me a bit of faith in power (well, almost-power).

  9. Jeremy Corbyn 🌹 should Work with the Green Party ☘️ of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

  10. As a Black and a "Socialist person , one thing Ive continually noticed is that Euro-American Leftists still havent repudiated / absolved themselves of their Racism. In the end, They know that White Privilege works for them and they are willing to quietly hang onto it as much as possible !

  11. To paraphrase Parenti loosely, the rich know that they are waging a class war, the left does not understand this. With their well paid academics, intelligentsia and libtard celebrities, they have lost touch with workers. Corbyn and Sanders put class back into the discussion, and now it is up to the people to bury the hatchet and ask for at the very least a deep reform. What was clawed back by the rich for the last 50 yrs must be restored.

  12. Feed the world with love rather than bomb them through hate.
I will vote for Jeremy Corbyn's new party over any other to get real change for the betterment of the people over the usual business of some people getting better treatment.

  13. I voted for Corbyn in Scotland. He would have been an outstanding PM. I think the whole Brexit thing and the slanderous media didn't help his chances though. A great man of the people.

  14. Thanks for this, particularly argument against militarism. The complete sordid propaganda that the main stream media is, thanks for this.
The question that needed to have been asked, if you had won parliament, given the power of the status quo, how could you have maintained
that power? Given you don’t have a revolutionary party of sufficient power to prevent this. I’m in Australia and when Gough Whitlam threatened the establishment, they simple removed him.

  15. I don't remember you telling your, (not Labour) new members what to support, they all joined for you but you didn't tell us what to support you barely told us what you had planned. Yes, it was your fault.

  16. "Left Politics" LMAO the left is the most Autocratic Cencoring assholes we have seen in a century. I lost interest in UK politics when our young savvy new labour party members voted against holding to the Brexit vote even though they loved Corbyn and must have known it would finish him. LOL young Savvy just don't go together does it Young and dumb was the truth.

  17. Sorry mate, the left always loses. They always lose because they use the lexicon given to them by those who wish to deceive.

  18. America doesn't have a left, it has one capitalist party with an illusion of choice between 2 pre selected corporate puppets, with the mission to control the world through economic and military persuasion. The E.U. is the new u.s.s.r.. (a bunch of countries pooling their resources together to raise the quality of life for a larger number of people)(supposedly).

  19. I look forward to joining your new party when you start it, Jeremy. The Labour party is as dead for us on the left as the US Democratic party is for progressives. Both are held in a firm strangle-hold by very right wing establishment forces and all of us (ie the entire planet) need a viable socialist alternative and we need it urgently. You're right when you say that the global left needs to work together, but I think they will only come together behind somebody they all love and trust. I think you are that person.

  20. The RIGHT-WING in the UK is very different from the american right-wing in ideology. To be a CONSERVATIVE, or a right-winger in England is to have a strong belief in law, order, and public offices and services. The idea being that its the strong institutions and government that built the country and made it what it is today. Traditions and order. Which is a HELL of a lot more healthy and sensible than americas right-wing lunacy.

  21. THE LEFT needs to be move global?? May I remind people that there is only one fundamentally right-wing country. And thats the US. And also… Out of all the well working, prosperous, modern countries in the world. Youknow the countries that have top healthcare, education, a well working social structure. Not ONE of them would call themselves "leftist".

Sure, you find anti-vaxxers, climate change deniers, creationists all over the place in various numbers, but they are usually the same people that fall for flat earth, UFOs, and other conspiracies. And all over the world, its clear that its AMERICAN conspiracy and AMERICAN propaganda on Facebook and other social media that made them so crazy. My own father, for example.

The absolute majority of "the world" laughs at american populistic right-wing lunacy.

  22. Where is the left ? it walked hand in hand into the state we're in. Remember they're in it together.

Time for a transparent and accountable meritocracy that adheres to the tenets set in the constitution of the United States. Government void of the left right paradigm beholden to political dynasties along with the banksters, crony capitalists, monarchs, extremists of both sides, zealots, centrists and illiberal liberals, technocrats, plutocrats, juntas, eugenicists, depopulationists, megalomaniacal trillionaires, billionaires, secret services puppets, corporate muppets, think tank skanks or anarchists.

  23. If NATO were to do anything useful and justified, they would take out the World Economic Forum, the Bank of Economic Settlement, the “City” of London, the IMF, the World Bank, Davos and more, to break the grip of the Central Banks.

  24. Just look at what Canada did, freezing the bank accounts of protesters, threatening to invalidate the insurance of truckers participating in protest. THE TRUCKER PROTEST WAS NOT "RIGHT WINGT" btw.
