Kevin Torres was beloved by his family and his community. After emigrating from Honduras decades ago, Torres built a life in Baltimore, where he and his wife ran a concrete and construction company, along with raising their family. In his spare time, Torres coached the Villanueva adult Soccer Team. On the night of Nov. 6, Kevin was out with family and friends at ChrisT Bar in Highlandtown celebrating his team’s victory in their league championship. But the festive atmosphere took a quick turn after a dispute over a missing cellphone resulted in an altercation involving the bar’s security guard. Kevin tried to intervene when the security guard began to argue with his stepdaughter. Moments later, Kevin was dead. As The Baltimore Sun reported, “The security guard told Baltimore Police he discharged his gun early Monday morning because Torres threw a brick at him. But three witnesses disputed that account… The security guard has not been arrested and officials declined to release his name.â€

First, my love to Max for doing this, I know it hurt. This country exhausts me. I'm an abuela/granny and it feels like we're no safer in the US than in the broken countries we fled. How do white Americans still believe this country is any better than our countries in Latin America when so many refugees from Latin America are trying with all their might to just go thru the USA and get to Canada, instead? Hell, I wish my grandparents had fled to Canada, instead. I've watched the entertainment industry flourish, the sports industry flourish, and god knows the food get from the fields to the restaurant tables to our tables thanks to our immigrant people who already went through so much to get here, and still – no love, no respect, no security. In the Bronx where I grew up, these tragic crimes happened all the time, but in the lily white island in the PNW where I live now, people around me cannot even imagine the horror we lived with every single day. Every night was a prayer of gratitude to have just survived as we fell into a restless sleep to the sound of gunshots and sirens. Cops on this white island don't act the fool and attack anyone because they fear anyone could be related to a rich white lawyer. It's sick. There CAN be peaceful existence everywhere, but safety is this country's most expensive commodity.

I'm sorry to hear about this. Honestly, that's why I avoid bars or clubs these days. There are too many people looking for a fight and security guards and police want a reason to use their guns or to throw you in jail or slap you with a dwi/dui or pi to make money for their cities and budgets. You add alcohol into the mix and it's like adding fuel to the fire. I hope there is justice in this case and closure for everyone.

My deepest prayers and condolences go out to this family. They didn't deserve this. This was truly an evil and heinous act. My heart is heavy for them right now. May that security guard be convicted of premeditated first degree murder which is exactly what he did. It was premeditated in the moments leading up to the shooting and there was absolutely no reason to do it. He got into some testy words apparently with the man and instead of leaving it there he chose to mace him and then intentionally murder him. From the family's testimony it sounds like the security guard shot at least four to five times. There's no mistaking that intention. Completely premeditated first-degree murder is the only charge that would be Justice in this case. Not reckless homicide, not manslaughter- none of that watered down bullshit!
The fact that they had to lose their loved one this close to Christmas and the holidays is just a terrible added tragedy to this whole affair. May God help this family grieve and recover and somehow find a way to move forward.

Why is the ChrisT bar not willing to help this situation regarding turning over their internal security camera footage?? Don't they want to help this grieving family??? They don't have to take sides just turn over all their camera footage, but they should make a copy of it first because the Pigs WILL make sure it gets lost.
