Hello everyone! As a former ward/inmate of the California Youth Authority I can honestly say that the type of counseling, treatment and training programs that were available to me were priceless. I went in there heavily entrenched with the gang lifestyle and came out a reformed young man. I spent 9 consecutive years in YA and NEVER saw or encountered the type of abuse everyone seems to exaggerate. Surly there were some crazy moments but not to the degree that this lady is emphasizing. I was in Fred C. Nelles in Whittier and feel very thankful to have crossed paths with some of the most genuine, tough yet caring counselors, some whom I STILL keep contact with. YA works as a reformatory program if implemented appropriately. Closing down YA is actually doing our troubled youth a disservice. YA changed my life for the better and I will forever be thankful. Other than the inmate vs inmate fights, I never saw or experienced "abuse". The state failed by NOT funding more good programs and by not hiring dedicated staff members. Oh and crime is NOT down. In fact, we're actually hitting all time highs. Don't give up on our Youth. You people are shutting down good programs without replacing them with anything at all. Thank you and God bless! ðŸ™

Wasn’t the juvenile justice system established to keep youth out of the adult system and putting an adult youth in men prison is an disaster
I think they should keep the California youth authorities open to keep them from getting an adult records and receiving adult sentences they’re fazing out YA but not fazing out prison they need to restructure YA and install rehabilitation those cats that wasn’t fit for the program shouldn’t be the reason they shut it down and those punk ass youth counselors this isn’t right

I’m going to sue DCFS for abuse and neglect. And I’m going to make it so the probation department had their own facilities. Why should I have to live with criminals and mentally children in a (STRTP) I’m there because of a homeless situation!
If I become the governor or someone of power I will make sure this changes! Having criminals Instead of being in juvenile hall be free and live in group homes Where they live a free life where they can torture other kids that aren’t criminals and Or mentally ill. Criminals belong to be locked up……
It’s baffling to me that the people who work to protect public safety are now seen as criminals and the criminals are now seen as victims.

Community based programs are a load of bull. These juveniles are repeated rapists, strong arm robbery, grand theft auto, Terrorizing the public and that's a few crimes they admit. All that money the department gets goes to the corrupt administration and bull corrupt programs by social work and mental health that dont work but they keep telling the public that its probation officers fault. Supposedly over 90% of juveniles are mental health but mental health in the halls do a joke of a job. We've been asking for mental health to actually do some work that will help because our recommendation fall on def ears and they refuse to spend more then 15 min with the juvenile. This lady is nothing but propaganda lies. I dont even know how she sleeps at night with these lies. This is so far from the actual truth. This is not the supposed real truth. Probation officers have tried to suggest programs that we know will help the juveniles out but lands on Def ears. But let social work and mental health come up with an idea and here's all the money you need. Then a year later a fail. Do they stop funding the program… nope. Because these corrupted health officials are getting paid. And always probation officers are the fall guy. Theres so much more at play with this move and the public is being lied to. Follow the funding and you will find out who is getting there pockets filled with making this move. Smh
They are sending Our American children to prison for things we used to get Community Service for> BRING BACK COMMUNITY SERVICE> HELP OUR YOUNG FIND A FUTURE ~ MORE EDUCATION NOT MORE INCARCERATION!!!

Take that budget and give even a portion of it to the families of these youth and you will do a better job at keeping kids out of jail. I mean if your going to spend it anyway….just saying.
Now will you start to deal with the homeless so that kids can have a home…
