Super Tuesday stunned progressives, but sustained grassroots organizing in Southern Black communities might have produced better results. Progressive outreach has made the mistakes of avoiding people of faith and ignoring race for years.

  1. We don't need to vote if we show solidarity.
We need to get out of that box they put us in.
    Voting separates us, can't useethat??

  2. Black voters of the south are conservative at best and the only reason they are not republicans are because republicans are racist. I’m sorry but the church is a dead end

  3. Its a race-based class system. Its not either or, but linked. If you get labeled "white'', you get access to wealth and the American economy. If you get labeled ''black'' you get excluded. We know race doesn't exist biologically but it will dictate your social status.

  4. Guess what Black voters just reelected Trump!!! The title should read, "Voters should stop being so stupid that they are voting against their own interest and supporting a war criminal, crime bill author, NAFTA and Fossil Fuel sell out!" It's the responsibility of Black Voters to go out and educate ourselves on records and issues… Did they not watch the first 8 debates with Booker, Harris, and Castro all bringing up his record? How can you be so damn dumb!?

  5. Sorry, but if you bring up racism as a central issue, you are called a "white savior", told to check your privilege, and attacked as everything from a Russian spy to Jim Crow. Black leaders have sold their people out to the establishment and no progressive can change that from the outside. I posted objective facts about Biden, asked people's opinions, listened and restated their answers to confirm I was redirecting their ideas and black voters rejected it utterly. They refused to even look at the evidence or at best said the same thing they said about Bush, that he's different now and deserves a second chance. There is zero interest in even entertaining any other ideas but what the DNC leadership proclaims from on high. So please don't try to get non-black, non-religious progressives to reach out, you are seeing them up for not only failure, but hardening opinions against progressives in general. If you want black religious people to change, you need to replace the conservative, fundamentalist leaders with progressive ones and work with other black, religious progressives from the inside.

  6. And THAT. Is how a REAL. Legitimate point is made.

Thank you for this. I’m still somewhat cynical about identity politics (because they are often used falsely and cynically), but you certainly reminded me why they are still very, very important.

  7. This is poor reporting, no evidence is provided to support her conclusions about why these people voted the way they did.For more likely is that they were "MISS" led by their pastors. The Sanders platform alone should garner him overwhelming black support, the fact that it does not suggest that these are low information voters….full stop.

  8. Sad to see Bernie's support vs that of war criminal Biden decline. Well, Biden's supporters make themselves complicit in his war criminality, which consequentially means " enemies from within ". After all, it's KNOWN fact that he's war criminal, so wanting to support his campaign makes these voters complicit, hence " enemies " of the country. We know that thousands of US soldiers have badly suffered due to having been suckered into doing US military service unwittingly. I don't know how many were KIA casualties, but there've been even more who ended up committing suicide after returning back to the USA, so we need to keep this in most careful consideration. And, I seriously doubt that Biden has improved! What a bunch of LOUSY neighbors. I definitely don't want any near me.

However, I must personally disagree with what Jacqueline says at the end in that we need to be more than expressing ourselves only online, to get OUT and active, for that requires people who have adequate income. I can't even afford to travel out of the small city where I reside in southern Quebec, Canada, so while I'm a US citizen, from birth and youth years, I'm economically stymied, stumped, trumped, …. So, the only thing I can do is to express views online. It's better than nothing, if online expression can at all help. If it can't, then to hell with these politics, just go fishing and totally forget about what happens in this world of ours. But, if people can do as Jacqueline suggests and do it, then great. I just don't have the economic means. And if we can't be at all inspired by online expression, then why in the world do people bother with reading books?! Why bother reading anything?! I do agree with Jacqueline, but not everyone can do as she suggests.

  9. It's CLASS, NOT RACE, sister!!!

As a mixed Native American – Latino having lived in Europe for over 20 years and experienced racism daily, I don't for a minute dispute the existence of racism.

    – I am also Catholic raised
    – You seen to have an abstract, metaphysical reading of racism.
    – RACES DON'T F***ING EXIST. Racism does, but factually there are no races other than the human race.
    – We are all African. Some of us got out of our homeland early, 100'000 years early, some 200 years ago.
    – We DO HAVE TO FIGHT RACISM, but not perpetuating the very lie the Europeans have used to subjugate us: Race.
    – I do criticise the fact that some people in the US construct their subjective identity around skin colour, thus solidifying the very trap Europeans set to exclude us as much as possible from a just and equitable social realisation.
    – You are only "black" as much as you self-identify in that pattern.
    – Cultural heritage is in my imperfect opinion a far better, more humane, organic, realistic substance upon which to construct social identity.
    – The primaries in the south were lost because YOU, the activists there, failed to build a realistic, overall narrative in which "race" and racism are explained within a larger, more descriptive and realistic narrative of all oppressions.
    – Racism is the worst, more unjust, form of discrimination.

Let's do our job, but if we fail let us not always blame the rest.

  10. Slaves have been trained to believe in Association Politics not Interest Policies. Think about it we are the only race that is told lay down your interest to defeat Trump. No other group has to make that split

  11. Keep it real, Bernie has real issues with getting older black people to vote for him. This is the most reliable voting block in the Democratic party and Bernie Sanders by and large has ignored them.

Bernie Sanders has a plan for every disenfranchised group in America. This includes the working class, gay and lesbian groups, Hispanics, but when you bring up a Black agenda to Bernie Sanders all he thinks we should do is study reparations.

A Black agenda would have turned the tide for Bernie Sanders. Especially an agenda targeting those American descendants of slavery. He didn't have one and so the black vote went to Biden.

Bernie Sanders deserved every bit of that Super Tuesday loss.

  12. Saying that Bernie is not addressing race is disingenuous to say the least and good luck raising people out of poverty with empty race pandering done by the moderates.
