Paul Vallas lost the election because:

– Doesn't even live in Chicago…he's claimed a home in south suburban Palos Heights as his legal permanent residence since 2009
– He decimated public education systems across the country, including CHICAGO, and even in other countries like Haiti and Chile
– His top campaign supporters include major Republican donors and Trump supporters

Detectives vs patrollers is a good split issue for progressives to use. Focus on the cops who try to solve crime while cutting the budget for the lower level cops and using that money to prevent crime with social welfare.

Cops are thugs for Capitalism. They don't prevent crime. Cops don't solve crime. History proves that the way we do policing makes things worse. To make things better, start by making police officers professionals with years (at least 3) of training. Remove qualified immunity for the use of deadly force. Cops are too free with their guns. Stop using cops to be first responders to health and mental issues. Cops should not be used for nuisance calls. We need more counselors who know how to de-escalate and have the tools to get people the help they need. Lastly, protests should not produce an armed response. Protests should not to be suppressed with tear gas and tanks. Protesters should be listened to. Ordinary only come out into the streets when something is really wrong.
