On April 4, 2018, The Real News Network held an event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This event featured stirring speeches from then-Senator Nina Turner, Danny Glover, and TRNN Executive Producer Eddie Conway about the radical legacy of MLK and the millions who made the civil rights movement what it was, and about how we in the present are tasked with honoring that legacy and carrying it into the future. This Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as the COVID-19 pandemic rages on and the forces of racism and reaction tear through the country, we find ourselves in a different world than the one we were in when TRNN held this event. But the struggle is no different—and, just like before, it’s on all of us to take up that struggle.
This special MLK Day episode of Rattling the Bars features clips from the speeches Sen. Turner and Glover delivered in 2018 accompanied by a new introduction from Eddie Conway. If you would like to view these speeches in full, follow the links below:

  1. Still didn't tell people how he was assinated by local, state, and federal agencies with assistance of a medical professional

  2. Excellent episode, as are also the videos linked in the text summary for this video, for the speeches of Nina Turner, Danny Glover and Eddie in April 2018. Excellent speeches and activism for the rights of everyone in the USA, as well as for humanity in general.

  3. The Gods are trying to wake the blacks up but still refuse to listen! King was going to congress to cut the check but was killed before doing so. Today blacks still went and voted for 200 more years of slavery to our children CHILDRENS

  4. News flash or reminder that MLK was assassinated by the very people who use his name for ill gotten gain our BELOVED government and also I’m waiting for another icon to get his due with immense respect Malcolm X. Again same people ie our beloved corrupt government behind that assassination as well. Will they ever give him respect I don’t think so already enough of a martyr not to mention his fighting words still work to this day.

  5. Anyone not duty bound is part of the people while employed people become persons upon employment and have duties not rights. People have rights persons have duties. Citizen is a corporate term for member of the corporation known as the United States of America incorporated in or around 1871. I would never call myself a citizen and they can't make me, no one can. Resident is a word that describes persons who reside. Residents do not live they reside. People live, persons reside. I don't have to pull my gun on a census worker and tell them to get off my lawn, no I just tell them that I am not a citizen or resident and they can't make me be. The census worker then double times to their car and take the fuck off! People live they do not reside. Government employees such as persons/citizens reside.

  6. MLK said the most dangerous enemies are sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. And we have too much of those .Keep fighting. Be the change.

  7. King also talked about reparations for ADOS. At the time the only ppl categorized as colored. When everybody else categorized being American as white. Where are those speeches from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.?

  8. Why not the struggle of black men AND women, we cant be so divisive, feminism doesn't serve the black community. We do need more strikes!! Economic strikes, not parades with dancing. AGREE! TIME IS PASSED TO BE LOYAL TO PARTIES THAT ARE NOT LOYAL TO US.
