  1. I had the chance to meet her when I was an undegraudate many years ago. She came at a point in my then young life where I was all but ready to drop out of univeristy because of a racist incident I experienced after writing an article in my university newspaper. It was at a writers’ conference, and during the after party, I had a chance to tell her what had happened to me. She told me to hang in there and stay strong. Nearly 40 years later, I have a PhD and am working as a research librarian at a major European university. I owe that encouragement to Sister Ntozake. RIP, my sister and dear elder. You will never be forgotten.
