Industrial agriculture and the climate crisis are responsible for this ecological collapse, but it’s not too late for transformative change, says Scott Edwards of Food and Water Watch

  1. Ecology destruction is anti-social behavior. Wealth related mental illness has locked in system collapse. We are talking about broken people who are compelled to deliberately cause harm beyond material greed. / Prairies support grassing animals and vice versa, But bean farms are not prairies. What makes cattle farming so destructive is that it doubles down on plant farming. We have to gather food another way.

  2. Infuriating and frightening at the imbecility that is man, how ignorant of the undeniable reality he is! If you want to cringe just go on google earth and look just about anywhere on the continents and there are clear signs of the human disease! Like deforestation, agriculture(which is extremely wasteful and damaging to the ecosystem …. You can see clear signs of desertification anywhere where the human pest has spread!

  3. Analysis should avoid blaming the individual and individual consumption habits for systemic institutional and biologically deterministic problems, where an endless supply of self-interested authoritarian elites governing institutions with socially and economically conservative values are produced and promoted by the safe harbor and socio-economic license enabled by poorly qualified conceptions of liberty and freedom that remain inconsistent with science. This has been a persistent problem since transitioning from feudalism through secular Enlightenment philosophy to rule by capital, where self-governance through democracy has been exposed as propaganda for permanent oligarchy; self-determination through capitalism exposed as class poverty and neo-feudalism; and secular social design exposed as secular protectionism for legacy biological determinism through growth-model church-state tribalism.

Analysis needs to start addressing how natural selection determined our species problematically through growth-model church-state tribalism competing in the evolutionary arms race subject to ignorance, violence, and delusion causing anti-science and unsustainable conservative values in militarism, religion, politics, economics, and culture. Social design needs to quit enabling the authoritarians with authoritarian psychology governing these institutions with conservative values, or social design will never be able to provide the required paradigm shift to globally unified and coordinated science-based systems-based egalitarian eco-socialism.

Until then, a litany of natural liabilities, short-term self-interested irresponsibility and crimes, and negative consequences, identify that Old World Homo sapiens remain a potentially failed species; a case study for the Fermi paradox. In an age of science, technology, and fuel emissions affecting the entire global ecosystem, our species must finally face our demons through the legacy liabilities of growth-model church-state tribalism competing in the evolutionary arms race, which was once a biological phenomenon that functioned with environmental latitude, but is now an obsolete and detrimental survival strategy. We must ameliorate the growth-model imperative of church-state tribalism, including the authoritarian psychology, socially and economically conservative values, and myth of human progress propagandizing a juggernaut of misdirected assumptions, accommodations, purpose, and energy, which has caused the Anthropocene, the 6th mass biodiversity extinction, industrial, pesticide, and nuclear contamination, resource depletion, the neoliberal and climate catastrophe, and of course our own premature extinction.

  4. Parents for many different reasons neglected their children, didn't give them the affection and guidance they needed to nourish the development of their compassion and ethics. They didn't notice when their kids were torturing animals or lying and cheating to get their way or bullying the vulnerable. So the percentage of psychopaths and sociopaths grew and grew, and most people don't want to go into politics or work corporate jobs. By putting very negative connotations on the mental conditions of psycho/sociopathy, and how they are portrayed in the entertainment business, society has encouraged them to hide and disguise even more by seeding fear and hate in how we view these people who did not consciously choose to suffer from what is essentially a defective brain. The best way to decrease the percentage of psycho/sociopaths participating in this society is to take the time and energy required to ensure our children are learning, developing, and growing compassion, love, and empathy.

My comment above is based on my belief that the demise and destruction of all life on this planet is being caused by humans who suffer from the condition of psychopathy/sociopathy. In recent years, scientific studies have shown that people who suffer from this condition have physically noticeable abnormalities in the frontal lobe's of their brains. Studies have also shown that there are a disproportionately high percentage of psychopaths/sociopaths in the fields of politics and law-enforcement, as well as high-ranking positions of major corporations and banks. If you look into the behavioral psychology of this condition, it is evident why this is the case. It is a mental condition that is well suited for and abundantly thrives in the environment created by a capitalist society. All of the problems, evils, inequalities, etc. throughout human history on our planet can be traced back to this phenomenon as their source. I highly recommend looking into the subject of "wetiko", in my opinion it is the same thing.

  5. Its over. Humanity simply has too many problems to solve. With capitalism in power,we are not even able to tackle a single problem. Nothing left to do but to accept the death of humanity as a species.

  6. Earth can not really sustain over 3 Billion people. We passed that the year I was born, 1959. We’re at 7.7 Billion now. Some kind of collapse is inevitable. Hang on people. Enjoy what’s left of Nature. Grow your garden. Even a house plant will do.

  7. I've attempted to locate the document to which you are referring with no success. However, as an environmental scientist well versed in the global status of species, I am absolutely certain you have drawn the wrong conclusion about threats to species. By a landslide, the number one threat to species is habitat loss, caused primarily by agriculture, and more specifically meat production. HOWEVER, it is not "industrial agriculture" that is the problem. It is meat consumption (which uses on average 5-142 times more land to produce the same amount of protein as vegetable sources), the diversion of crops for biofuels (which require 50-1000 times more land per unit of energy production than nuclear or fossil fuels), and inefficient agriculture such as organic (which has yields 25-50% lower than conventional industrial agriculture, meaning it takes more land/habitat destruction to produce the same amount of food). Based on IUCN Red list data (the only global database listing ALL species identified as threatened with extinction), climate change comes in near dead last as a major threat to species. In fact, it is many "solutions" to climate change such as massively land intensive biofuels, that are actually exacerbating the problem by causing even further habitat loss.

  8. What's your point we have cataclysmic events all throughout history that contributes to extinction of creatures, survival of the fittest is always employed to determine who survives and who doesn't, yet ironically the very discussion that humans are involved in creating this Extinction is just a non-issue and not relevant in the bigger picture of overall guaranteed events that have nothing to do with human interference that will bring about huge enormous extinctions from time to time you can bet on it, the fact that you cannot time it to your watch or calendar means nothing at all

  9. Modern industrial consumer driven civilization is not sustainable and will lead to exactly what we are seeing. Eventually, probably sooner than we expect, it will collapse. Sorry folks, our survival demands a massive change in our lifestyles. Sustainable means simple and balanced with the whole of nature.

  10. I just listened to Mike P. Arctic speech and he was cheering on the melting Arctic because of the new shipping lanes and the potential resources that will be available. This is the insane reality we're in; the three main resources he mentioned were oil, natural gas and Uranium. All three resources are the raw products of death and people wonder why we're facing extinction. I've been labeled an extremist; a bitter person that can't accept Capitalism as the best of all worlds. In reality this is a joyful time for me; I've been trying to convince people we can do better than this for a long time but it's always been "This is as Good as it Gets." The economy, ecology and our energy sources are collapsing. We're going to change and the longer we wait the more painful the process.

  11. Nothing Real about this Fake news,it's a depopulation agenda, blame man because were made in God's image.Read the Bible this is all prophecy, plus the rest.except Jesus into your heart,he died so you can live,We are the last generation of Man.nothing matters only getting right with God,Think about Eternity were do you want to spend it Heaven or Hell?you choose

  12. If you're a scientist why should you care? Stuff has always evolved and more stuff will and adapt to the new hotter planet. Trying to stop all this if fighting evolution. The fittest survive so if we're not fit we'll make way for those that are.

  13. And I bet not a single reporter at TRNN is vegan. That’s the hypocrisy. It’s been known for over 50 years that the leading driver of species extinction and habitat destruction is Animal Agriculture. The issue is not “factory farming”, it’s people choosing to eat animal products. Local animal agriculture is WORSE for the environment. Another greenwashing high school level interview by TRNN.

  14. Yeah, I'm sure the umpteenth version of these types of reports will be the wakeup call 💀 we aren't going to wake up, we're going to die in our sleep.

  15. We don't have to look much further than how folks use pesticides on their own yards and gardens…the amount of pesticide use in yards overshadows the use of these chemicals in agriculture!!!

  16. The "human activities" that is causing mass extinction are wars for profit (no one talks about the toxic destruction of war), aerosol spraying, ship tracks, weather manipulation (geo-engineering), GMO's, anti-biotic overuse, fracking, deforestation, industrial chemical waste dumping on land and at sea, and missle launches (creating holes in the ozone). The government(s) (United Nations) want us to believe that "we" are responsible for this and asked for this. Their idea is to block the sun and move us to compact areas and that "they" divvy up the world's resources "equitably" and same the world for our grandchildren. Ha!. What scientist in any way not know that blocking the sun is the dumbest idea ever? Yes, but "Harvard" Scientists are doing it in California. Did anyone in California get the memo? Did they get consent? If you block the sun, how do you get solar energy (if they really say you care about getting off fossil fuels)? If you block the sun how will food grow healthy? How can the Earth be healthy? What other mass extinction will be caused by these over the top fixes? Why aren't we planting more trees? No room they say! What a farce! Get rid of every golf course and plant a forest. Stop flying around in private jets. I believe we could have made changes decades ago, but no one could figure out how to charge for sunlight so solar was never pushed. Healthy ideas are thwarted by the corruption of industries control over our governments and now these very same "governments" want us to believe they suddenly want to act for the good of the planet? Foolish people. Wake up. If there is no profit in whatever their plan the wouldn't be doing it. You can rest assured the only one it will benefit from their "sustainable development" plans are them.

  17. lol its not because of climate……. How about toxic pollution coming out of factorys into the ocean and rivers. Plastic trash, over fishing, pesticides, herbicides, GMOS, Chemtrails, Elecromagnetic radiation ect. Maby those things have something to do with it?

  18. The study, published in the journal Science, created a huge dataset based on almost 40,000 farms in 119 countries and covering 40 food products that represent 90% of all that is eaten. It assessed the full impact of these foods, from farm to fork, on land use, climate change emissions, freshwater use and water pollution (eutrophication) and air pollution (acidification).

“A vegan diet is probably the single biggest way to reduce your impact on planet Earth, not just greenhouse gases, but global acidification, eutrophication, land use and water use,” said Joseph Poore, at the University of Oxford, UK, who led the research. “It is far bigger than cutting down on your flights or buying an electric car,” he said, as these only cut greenhouse gas emissions.

The new research shows that without meat and dairy consumption, global farmland use could be reduced by more than 75% – an area equivalent to the US, China, European Union and Australia combined – and still feed the world. Loss of wild areas to agriculture is the leading cause of the current mass extinction of wildlife.

  19. Propaganda humans are also a SPECIES of which the un united nations is in the process of eliminating. And human activity is a poor excuse of the psychopaths that cause all these issues. Psychopaths hold many positions of power. They alone are responsible for this not human activity. RT are in need to of this wake up call.😎🐯

  20. “Education is the art of making man ethical”
    ― Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel
This is where the war by the elite against the people begins, in our education. Without ethical education people do not stand for anything and happily work for corps that destroy OUR habitat.

  21. Everything that comes out the UN and MSM is garbage. They are playing on our love for the planet as an excuse to exterminate humans. Never buy into this eco garbage scam.
