It's amazing how people on both sides of the wall think they resemble Jesus!
Sounds like a Buddhist!
As a secular humanist/Atheist, Liberation theology is the ONLY spirituality that I can get behind. Humanism is the way forward & it’s worth fighting for ✊ðŸ½âœŠðŸ¼ðŸ¤ŸðŸ½âœŒðŸ¿ðŸ––🼠You cannot have love without justice and you cannot have justice without love!
The main thing about being spiritual is to be trueful to yourself, to God and to others.
Don't profess what you don't believe. Do not pretend. Take God seriously. If you don't believe it, don't act as you do.
Awesome and rare kind of person.
Written over 3000 books?
Pure heresy!
I'm horrified by what these two men are saying! They are so far left, simplistic and have such convoluted reasoning! I can tell this guy Fox has NEVER read Pope St. John Paul II and Ratzinger's writings! These are two of the greatest minds of the Catholic Church! This guy is NOT Catholic and his ideas are so simplistic! Thank God St. John Paul II had him removed from the Dominican Order and priesthood! You can't claim to be a Catholic priest and go around teaching stuff that is not Catholic, not biblical, and irrational, nonsense! You are out and should be so. You have no right to be and remain a Catholic priest while teaching heresy and non Catholic doctrine. St. Augustine was not a neurotic man! You are Mr. Fox. Your mind must be twisted by sin and heresy. Gay men can't think straight! Of course they hate original sin. And Ratzinger has no inquisition here, it IS his duty to protect the Church and the integrity of the Catholic Faith from such neurotic, convoluted, simplistic, Marxist, leftist irrational men like yourself and their worldly ideologies. That is the Pope's job and the head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith! You are free to go and publish anywhere else. Leave our holy Church alone. We got the Truth and not you!
9:07 Idea of Original Blessing 🤩🥰🤯
You only have ONE TEACHER, ONE MASTER ONE LEADER.
White privelege = the modern epistemolgical equivalent of original sin used by the pc cult to control behviour
5:15
You need spirituality to ground the movement or people are going to start doing drugs? Get that moralizing shit out of here.
"For a person of color that might be the original sin.." Does he not realize there are no persons of color, it's an erasure of specificity for one and a glaring failure to pay homage to all humanity on this planet based on evidence so far descended out of Africa. Religion including Catholicism purposefully distorts that reality.
I am Buddhist raised from cradle to age 13 as Catholic when I got hit by a car going to church. Had a concussion but woke up questioning the belief system I was born into but became nontheistic as Buddhism is.
This man will be in the Lake with the snake. Anderson Cooper looking MFer.
The new Pope is corrupt not a good Pope!!!! I like the rest of the interview
In a better world, a wide distribution of this interview could have the impact Martin Luther had 400 years ago. It encapsulates the sense of sin and shame since the 1960 assassinations which overlapped with the attempts to open, and then shut, and then expand, the Catholic Church. Fox is in the noble tradition of Christian thinkers like Thomas Merton and Father Flye and the Berrigan brothers.
Catholicism = misogyny. The Vatican has to lift the ban on contraceptives.
Somehow I can never get TRNN web site to accept my comments. That review time never lapses. Wonderful discussion that has a lot of thoughtfulness, a lot of opinion, a lot of nonsense, and a lot of truth. There is nothing more important than to have the opportunity, to hear all of it, and to discern it all.
Paul asked an interesting question or Father Fox, "why did you stay with it?". His longer answer rang true for me, for it is Christ's church upon which nothing will prevail. Matthew 16:17:19.
Father Fox searches for truth, but he does always, for me, from me, to me, speak it. Augustine's original sin was disobedience. It is not something difficult to grasp, and not a nuance, and not about sexuality. Am I the scholar Father Fox is? No I am not. Is scholarship required? No it is not. These are lessons, and every student takes their lessons and plows ahead as best they can (of course there is more to say to this). Jesus never mentions the term Original Sin? He didn't discuss a lot of what is in the Old Testament, Augustine was the inventor? No, Paul gives a lot of treatment to Adam and Eve.
Anyway, this is a treasure of a series, with a wonderful Christian, and I am a better person for having been allowed by the grace of God to hear it and virtually spend time with Father Fox. It is sad to me, to see the comments listed hear. I truly believe Father Fox is taking sides nor making us take sides. He is telling us there is one church (the vine), and not all the people (the branches) will survive the pruning.
The church is built around keeping spirituality away from people.
Wow, the CIA needs to be dismantled.
Fascinating discussion. Great guest Paul.
If you want to become a theological network, find people representing the younger generation and different views. Matthew Fox is an aging lightweight and of no influence today. American baby boomer religion is pathetic.
Fascination conversation——thank you!
Amazing interview. From a South American catholic. If only more people could be aware of this. Thank you so much for shining some light on these issues.
Adam and Eve brought sin into the world because they desired to "be equal to God knowing good evil," knowing how to use a pretense of good to hide evil, knowing how to be a liar. For God created humans to be such ingrates as to believe Satan's fiction, that God is a liar and if we also became liars we could have power and glory equal with God.
So, as those more intelligent have a greater knowledge of good and a greater ability to use a pretense of good to hid evil, planet earth was created for but one purpose, to reach the ultimate conclusion of an intelligence dictatorship.
A fake morality actually, the illusion being that we may enrich ourselves upon the misery of those with less education, less wealth or less whiteness of skin.
And so, to not be guilty for the one billion least intelligent humans now starving, nor guilty for global warming, be a pacifist vegetarian with no more wealth than needed for a comfortable life.
The one billion least intelligent people suffer hunger, for the simple reason that seven billion sinners refuse to feed them. Likewise, since the beginning of civilization the more intelligent upper-half of society has hoarded all the land, wealth and political power. And so, if your not a pacifist vegetarian with only enough for a comfortable life, your causing global warming and guilty as sin.
The Civil Rights Movement came out of the black churches, but this is because of the place that the church held in the community, not because of anything inherent in the churches themselves. What we see in many cases with people who are oppressed is that they congregate at places of worship, but this isn't because religion is somehow driving this. You have to imagine what would have happened in the pre Civil Rights South if large groups of blacks had started congregating in some venue outside the church. It would have been shut down, probably violently, and I suspect that this is the case in all or most of these other cases too. The Iranian revolution against the Shah came out of the mosques and I suspect that it got that religious coloring because the Shah would have murdered people congregating in some secular venue. Slaves in the antebellum South, blacks in Jim Crow America, people living under repressive dictators all tend to organize around religion, but there's nothing "spiritual" there. It's simple practicality. God and religion are on the side of the powerful and established social orders.
Thanks Real News for these great interviews, & conversations with very interesting & genuinely good people.
These are the kind of discussions people rarely have in today's culture. I am a self-described agnostic who grew up in a Catholic family, but I still find religion interesting.
I am an atheist. But values are not debatable. Matthew Fox is a good man. I am so impressed.
'Original Sin' is inherited sin. We are indoctrinated and programed through family values, school-state laws and demands to obey and lastly religious dogma.
The Catholic church wants world control to enforce its dogmas and unbiblical teachings then persecution will rise against the just those who are truly Chris's own
I relate to this guy like you would not believe! I grew up the youngest of 10, but the 13th pregnancy and I was 4 in 1960. Go figure……
What a wonderful topic and a great interview with Matthew Fox. I have not followed him since the late 80's and early 90's. His message still resonates deeply with me and is a breath of fresh air. Thank you, what a gift.
This dude brought up Marx more than Jesus. Wonder why he got kicked out the Catholic Church???? 🤔🤔🤔
Marx wasn't Jewish. He was an atheist or even an antitheist. His father converted into Christianity.
My dad is a Christian, but I'm an atheist.
