I don't understand why "people of color" (resurrecting the "colored" label) continue to mess with the Dems. It's pretty clear they are the party of the white, upper-middle income managerial class. Very much the party of captured corporate interests.
They offer what Black people put into the involvement on the issues. The black people who make this argument have this biggest blind spot: Waiting. Not being politically engaged and pushing. Even white conservatives know that they leverage their representation out there. Yes the system is on their side, but they aren't just blindly handed what they want.
Black people have to be more involved in the campaigns 14% or not. Political engagement is not just about numbers, or money. There are interests out there that will respond to a coordinated black response.
And if that means by first calling out any politician that is not talking to black people before making comments, then so be it.
Take Hillary. She never said (and did not imply) "blacks are superpredators" yet she had to apologize because 1. Racist people twisted her words to make it seem like she did. 2. Black people ran with that twist and campaigned to get her to apologize.
24 or more candidates splitting the Democratic parties voters up into little special interests? The Democrats splitting up into separate special interests? The rigged gerrymandered congressional district's that aren't being forced to redraw their lines to fairly represent the electorates popular choice in elections. We don't have a democracy just a bunch of people trying to manipulate the system. A whole lot are willing to cheat and see nothing wrong with it. Their is a problem with even starting to campaign before the rigged system is fixed. People should be demanding it. Hasn't the rigged electoral college and state legislatures been in the news?
You'd think it Hasn't even been found out Its been rigged to favor the GOP candidates. How could a Democrat consider running until that is taken care of. They just found out North Carolina lied to a federal court they couldn't fix their gerrymandered congressional district lines until after their party won a majority in their states legislature. They said they couldn't fix the lines in time to have a fair Democratic election in the state and the federal court said okay instead of postponing the elections until a Democratic election process could be met.
Its unbelievable.
This is going on all over America.
Really unbelievable.
I have seen quite a few comments on here of late threatening to not vote for any candidate who doesn't promise reparations, and I have to say that it is a mistake.
As I see it, when engaging in politics, you have to come to a clear idea about what you'd like the future to be like, and how you are going to get there. Not voting (particularly in the next presidential election) isn't going to work. You have many ways to engage with politics: protesting/activism, lobbying/petitioning, voting, standing for election, violence, and apathy. Let's discount the last two, as apathy is unproductive at worst, and violence is not (yet) necessary (as well as extraordinarily unwieldy). That leaves the others as viable options. Not voting is taking away one of your options.
To my mind, you should always vote: politicians know you are watching them; they will know you are voting and seek it out; you are partaking in the decision process; it affirms you personally as a citizen. If there are no good candidates, then you should vote for the best of a bad bunch.
On top of that, you should vote for the candidate you will have most leverage over. Black people not voting is good for Trump, a man who does not concern himself with their interests in the slightest and will never heed them. His cronies, in fact, will actively try to diminish black people and make it hard for them to vote. Any of the above candidates are more likely to be leveraged by black people and more likely to do things to help them. Sanders in particular is likely to help black people, as many of his policies will create opportunities for them.
Warren is a corporate shill.
You seem out of touch. Bernie/Tulsi is the only progressive choice. All the others are stealing their ideas for appearance.
Jacqueline, I can't believe you just called Joe Biden Progressive. NEVER Joe Biden! Never another Clinton. Bernie/X ticket? I'll come back to the United States for that one.
Tulsi Gabbard
Holy Cow. That's the worst ad I'me ever seen. Talk about pandering.
I was crushed when Warren didn't run in'16. Now she seems to be nothing but pandering. I'm watching her right now on THE VIEW and it's painful. I take no joy in this.
They are really elevating Warren at the expense of other progressive candidates, particularly Tulsi Gabbard. Tulsi is more progressive and deserves to get covered. The only reason that Warren is doing better in the polling is due to better visibility and name recognition. If media outlets like the TRNN actually covered Gabbard, her poll numbers would rise.
You don't have to be race-obsessed to be progressive. Utilitarianism helps everyone. I'm someone who supports progressive policies but roll my eyes when I hear the hating whitey nonsense. As long as the laws don't distinguish between the races there can't be systemic racism. Other than that it's up to the individual(s).
Isn't Biden one of the MOST Conservative Dems around? Wth. This is misinformation.
Warren, Biden, are warmongers, representating the olygarchy, corporations, the 1%.
As long as Warren doesn't have a plan (like Bernie) to mobilize the American people to lobby for her policies, doesn't matter how good they are, they'll never get passed in Congress. And as others have said, she's voted for every increase to the defense budget.
Warren is a corporate Demo, she is just words, Bernie Sanders is everything, don't compare, don't mix them. You are corporate too guys, full of shit.
This isn't a complete conversation for an already informed voter that already studies both Warren' s and Sander's career. What makes different age group single individuals upset enough to stand in a long line and stay in that line, get the work day off and vote ? in the midterms so much more this last time around in 2018. They want a woman (finally) president no matter what ? Worried what poor person freedoms will be stripped away by the orange spoiled brat next ? Anyone but that clown again? Payback for How Hillary bought the entire DNC's election circus nearly out of finance money ( put in debt by Obama) and (finally) elect Bernie ? Biden is still so darn handsome and he was unfortunate to run for president three times and all three times at the wrong time ? I want my stock market that I keep close track of to never change from growing my money so I want corporate friendly candidates (fill in the blue name here) to win ? What makes non voters (by habit) talk other poor folks into voting and offer rides on election day ? Why do YOU vote in one quick sound-bite answer ? You have to get down on your belly to pick some new weeds off of Bernie's "behavior with your "you know….average black person" who gives a shit bout someth'n to vote for. We white folks aren't all voting the same. We're over here only talking about impressions each candidate might be trying out, to gain some new love. I think that coin you threw landed heads up in the wishing well. Let's go find it and take a look.
Do your research please
If the Dems select Sanders, Biden or Harris, (and if any two are on a ticket together), I will vote for a Repub first time in my life. Sanders is the worse of the three. He gets downright paternalistic when a black person presses him on issues that effect my community. Enough of giving away or vote to a party that does nothing for us. I'd rather be in a pit with a snake that I know is going to bite me (Trump) than with any of the three that I mentioned. And as your guest said, Sanders "did the church thing". And therein lies the problem. I don't need a candidate coming to my church, swaying with the choir, chowing down on "fried chicken with hot sauce". We're done with that okey doke. Stop buttressing that old man. He will be just as bad as Obama was for the black community. And Obama did NOTHING for us.
This video is a great explanation why Ben Norton, Aaron Mate and Max Blumenthal left. I am very disappointed. This isn't a display of opposition for the sake of a healthy political debate. This is more like a Moderate Corporatitst Democrats' Softball League. Seems pretty one sided when all panelists sing the Liz Warren song.
Tulsi 2020. No more wars. Support everyone, regardless of colour or status.
Black women & Homosexual Black Men will not vote for Bernie becuase they follow what the white media tells them. STRAIGHT Black men are Bernies base within the black Community becuase we think independent of what white talking heads tell us.
I know the real News hates Straight Black Males who dont speak like its 1869, but you cant talk about ANYTHING Black without a STRAIGHT BLACK MAN.
Sanders all the way 2020
Why do people want to say Bernie has a problem with the black voters?? Where is the proof other than the voter purge done by the GOP!?
The Real News never claimed to be Progressive to my knowledge. And they're online media, not exactly impacting the polls, sorry.
Here are my thoughts on Tulsi for what it's worth. I am over fifty, white, Progressive, fairly well educated on our political history and beyond that I fit no norms and don't watch tv anymore.
I like Tulsi and her policy positions. But most of that she got from Bernie. It was Bernie that lit that fire, as he has so many other fires and as he continues to this day.
The Bern is on Fire.
Tulsi is young, from the perspective of someone my age or older, and anyone with any depth of knowledge of our government's history and that of the power structure that controls it, way too young and inexperienced to qualify for the position of President. An educated opinion being that they would eat her alive.
Lastly, sadly, we are a fully indoctrinated militarized culture. The final linchpins were set in 2001 after 9/11 with the militarization of big league ball games and so much more. We as a nation worship our military and all it's adventures abroad because we en masse still believe we're the good guys.
Bernie is, in rather remarkable once in a lifetime fact, the only real chance we the people have or likely will ever have.
And we only have that chance
"If we stand together".
biden is literally anything but a progressive, to insinuate so is ludicrous.
Warren’s ways: standing ovation for Trump at the State of the Union. Voting for Trump’s 3 military budgets. Obviously Warren thinks Trump’s endless wars, policies, and intellectual capacity is awesome.
this is the type of stupid shit form people like anoah shanga (i think that is her name, it is not listed in the notes), that constantly divides the working class and reinforces neoliberalism at the same time. words like "listens", "adjusts", "connects" are the neoliberal "how" category questions and comments that are designed to draw everyone's attention from "what" needs to be done. to suggest that elizabeth warren would somehow benefit ados more than sanders is a demented argument. make no mistake about it, her plan to resolve racism is to "listen" to you and then "say" the right things. Or at least whatever the media thinks is "right things". take that one example of the excerpt used when she talked to black women about prejudice. it is as if we can just make white people less prejudice against ados everything will be fine. nevermind the fact that black women belong to the lowest caste in america and while some of these liberals will elevate selected few into their ranks they are doing nothing to eliminate this caste system altogether. people either don't know or conveniently forget that ados became poorer under obama in terms of median wealth. don't get me wrong sanders have real issues with ados. most importantly he does not support reparations and he acts awkward around ados. but one thing is very clear he is absolutely determined to change the structure of american society with programs like job guarantee, m4a and free college. and that needs to be repeated infinitely because that is the real thing, not some constant distraction and chasing of trends and most importantly return to neoliberal language of individualism.
I'm really peeved at how this " TRNN" continues to Avoid Rep.Gabbard ! Their negligence of Even mentioning her is Just Like the msm ! If it were'nt for them having Mr Conway on staff , I'd consider Unsubscribing ! And they'd Rather poste jeb bush vids Instead ? Please…give me a Break ! warren , biden Not getting crossover voters neighbas.
Biden is clearly not progressive. Warren backpedals too much, and would not stand a chance against the Trump machine. Bernie is still the clear cut choice if the Democrats are serious about gaining the White House in 2020.
It's still Bernie or Bust! Don't blow it again folks!
Elizabeth Warren may speak well to the African American community, but if she is unwilling to stand up to her own party leadership, she won't help that community much at all. You know what would help the African American community more than anything else, Medicare for all, and she has backed off from supporting that because of party leadership pressure. She talks good, and so did Obama, how did that work out?
hmm…discuss the only 3 that the establishment want you to talk about. Bernie is good, but bring Tulsi Gabbard into the conversation and she how she stacks up..
What did the black voters get from their beloved Barack Obama? He was the one that should have done the most for black people but he did nothing….not one thing for black people, so what they could possible demand from these white candidates
What a fake question and answer session. Didn’t ask not one important question nor mention black that crap does not work anymore
Where is Paul Jay? These idiots know nothing. They got rid of Aaron Mate for these clowns?
Black privilege = voting for neoliberals like Biden.
Trust Warren at your own peril. Look at her record. An avowed capitalist, she has voted for every military budget, was a registered republican up until the 1995, and conveniently claimed native American heritage when it served her career goals, but stayed silent when the oil companies and their private armies were boot stomping protesters at Standing Rock. She has even said she will take super PAC money once in the general. If she was actually going to fight for all her proposals then she would have stood up for Bernie in 2016 when he was the vanguard of the progressive movement within the corrupt Democratic party. Instead she waited until after Hillary fraudulently secured the delegates and then endorsed her majesty before the convention. Warren is just another Obama like politician who will tell you what you want to hear in order to get elected, but then continue to do the bidding of her Wallstreet donors once in office.
Yes Biden is a racist!! Was good friends with Strom Thurmond the rapist Senator who raped a 16 year old Black girl when he was a young politician! Biden also mad countless racist remarks about black people, he also was against desegregation of schools… the only reason why he got a pass was because no one knew he was when he ran with Obama and the media was hiding his past.
Bernie and Biden booth supported mass incarceration bill in 1994 as a matter of fact joe Biden had a very passionate speech in favor of the 94 Biden crime bill along with some of the CBC members also voting for the crime that’s behind the mass incarceration of Black people and both Bernie and Biden out right said they will not support reparations for ADOS ‘American descendants of slavery ‘ African Americans have been systematically lock out of wealth being the poorest Americans, I don’t think that the masses of Black people will not vote for Bernie and Biden and I don’t see the Democratic Party winning in 2020 if they can’t get the Black vote, reparations have to be on the table.
Warren's statement that black women's poor health outcomes are PURELY down to the prejudice of individual doctors and nurses is ludicrous. Does anyone really believe that 'the best studies' show this, and that health outcomes for black women across all wealth brackets are the same? Health outcomes are overwhelmingly determined by economic status (ie. class!), notwithstanding disproportionate racial effects (as with everything in the US given its particular racialised history).
I can't believe that this wasn't interrogated by the panelists. Very disappointing discussion from The Real News – I expect better!
These three people talk as if the Democratic party voters could choose a candidate, next year. Are they unaware that the choice of candidate, as well as dispersal of party contributions, is completely within the ambit of DNC power? If anyone thinks that the nomination won't go to a second ballot, thereby introducing the SuperDelegate corporate team, I've got a shiny new nickle to wager on it. The fix is in; the voters don't matter in so far as the party's nominee is concerned.
Racism and poverty – and misogyny and homophobia and ableism – will never end in a militarist society, as MLK and many more have said. Warren is a militarist, full stop. She'd be great in the Fed or in a domestic issue cabinet position, that is all. Bernie was intro'd by the woman who started a childcare coop with his support when he was mayor that's still running. Then by people with affordable housing because he started a land grant program that's helping poor people put roofs over their heads to this day. Bernie was getting slapped by white Democratic women for backing Jesse Jackson and calling out racism by name since the 80s, while Warren was voting for Reagan. Bernie was fighting the fight, while Warren was in Harvard learning all that academic PC language and pretending to care about the very few woc in Harvard. She's from Oklahoma, with one of the largest Native populations in the nation, and was clueless about claiming an identity she never had a thing to do with. Trust her? Never. She's never seen a military budget she can't vote for, while claiming Trump's a traitor, ffs. You don't give a traitor tens of billions more than he asked for, for the Pentagon alone, never mind all the other secret budgets – yes, we never see those budgets, at all! – for all the alphabet-soup spy agencies that have proliferated since 9-11. Good grief, y'all, this does us absolutely no favors, shows no solidarity with the people of color overseas – some of them our actual families – that you claim to care about, or about the young people who will suffer the damage to climate people and planet from endless wars.
Why are Black voters limited to these three candidates? Why are we limited to only one political party? The Green Party had a Black presidential candidate in the 2008 election, Cynthia McKinney. In 2016 election the Green Party's VP candidate was Ajamu Baraka. The party's platform is much more progressive then that of the democrats which really isn't. There is also the Party for Socialism and Liberation which is also progressive. After all, we are socialists by culture.
Biden is NOT progressive!
now an old ass white man that is enjoying the fruits of his whyte privilege grandpappy, and a little black , most likely, poor and males in homes and can't recall when Jim Crow put on a suit . wtf GET OUT OF HERE!!!!
