6. It is the absence of strategy, to fail to anticipate how an opponent will react to your own moves. Such should be the very essence of strategy. It is the laziness of thinking that grew up in the post-Cold War years when the US got used to the idea it could do anything it liked and no one could stand against it. It also resulted in the most dangerous delusion of foreign policy being motivated by idealism rather than the realistic pursuit of self-interest. Such an absolute ideology brooks no compromise with an opponent, requires no anticipation of an opponent's reactions and leads inevitably to war. Even a war the US cannot not afford to happen and is not in its own interests.
