She won the FIFA World Cup for Spain. Her boss’s response was shocking | Edge of Sports – Everything Law and Order Blog

Jenni Hermoso’s stunning performance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup final was overshadowed by a scandal after Royal Spanish Soccer Federation president Luis Rubiales inexplicably kissed her onstage at the medal presentation. Rubiales’s assault has provoked a firestorm from fans and the Spanish women’s team players. Dave Zirin dishes out his take on what the incident tells us about the persistence of patriarchy in women’s sports in this edition of “Choice Words.”

  1. I am from Spain and Rubiales represents the mafia boss sort of person that does not wear the best interests for the Federation but to built an state of fear and terror institucionalized where he can do whatever he wants and sexual harrasment is one of them. That was public sexual harrasement, recorded by cameras. When someone in a default mode does that in public while he is being whatched by millions of people is because he is used to do it often in private in the club ( there are a quite many previous legal claims filed against him by women who suffered sexual harrasment and bullying from him) and he does habitually without any consequence not only to women but also to men that does not workship him as a god. Moreover he has stolen much money from the club, he is the mafia boss doing whatever he wanted without any consequence.

  2. I am thinking maybe just , maybe someone doesn't want to lose his job , and not being the ubersexist supersoldier of patriarchy depicted by the broadcaster bot
This might be a difficult concept for someone who never had a real job to understand
( i still think what he did was inappropriate and deserve sanctions , they are many ones other than losing your job )

  3. I hope kissing the woman with jailhouse tats was worth it, Rubiales's career and work life is over. He will also be sued to the point of bankruptcy. If he was in the USA, he would be jailed. Ironically at first, the woman was blithe about this kiss as they were friends. It was only after media and activists made a big stink about it, that the woman switched to being a "victim" of the cis-gender patriarchy, etc.

  4. Rubiales on reflection should have known that he crossed a boundary. At issue well before the tournament was the culture of inappropiate male behaviour condoned at the SSF, causing many top Spainish players to withdraw from participating at the world cup. Some palyers were already around the 30 year old mark and a world cup being held every four years shpuld tell us the enormity of their individual decisions. Women's soccer (football) is unusal in that players are open about their sexuality. Remeber the BBC journalist, who thought it appropriate to ask the muslim athlete what her country thought about lesbians in the team. The question had no legitmacy and was asked merely to create headlines but may have had consequences for the athlete. In context, footbal club's have appeared to have normalised workplace relationships between players. Given the nature of humans, dare I say, in time, accusations and alike of female on female sexual harassment will probably also cause condemnation.

  5. Weird story. She is a woman with tough tattoos all over, had she not tolerated him being a coach, she would have already kicked his b…..

  6. He would have pretended to be among the LGBT community he wouldn't have had this problem

  7. Distant past: you are innocent until proven guilty
Past: you are guilty as soon as you are accused by the “victim”
Present: you are guilty before anyone even makes an accusation
What does the future hold for us?

  8. HATING MEN AGENDA is a NWO WEF GREAT RESET tactic tool weapon.
He just acted overly excited and emotional for her/their victory.
Done in public and in front of everyone shows he was not doing it to be wrong or inappropriate

  9. Christ, it was just a congratulatory kiss given out of affection.
The puritans are taking this ridiculously too far

  10. What's the world coming to when you get in trouble for molesting a woman in public. It is getting to the point where it is hardly worth it to obtain power over others.

  11. Yes, that man was wrong for kissing that woman, but it’s not a reason for him to resign; he may need to be suspended. I could understand if he was kissing the whole team; he did this to one person. However, it’s not uncommon for athletes and person who are overjoyed by victory to give each other a kiss ,males player kiss each other (not on the lips) but on the forehead.

  12. Did not look like it was meant to be offensive just celebratory!! Could she just have spoke to him quietly and told him she felt uncomfortable sure, but instead had to make it a big public spectacle! Sorry this was a huge over reaction! Women do this to men in celebration all the time and men don't whine and complain even though they may have felt uncomfortable!!

  13. 1. He is not her boss.
    2. He says he asked for permission and she agreed. She admitted it in the bus later.
    3. He was not looking for something sexual because she is a lesbian, he knows it and they had an excellent relationship until that day.

  14. They'll fire him, and in the future they'll be complaining as they fail to return to the big spot. Six of one half a dozen of the other

  15. Than how creepy were those girls coz they were all joking about it in the bus….now its huge deal…

  16. Shadowbanning comments left and right all over this comment section. The Real News Network is all aboot freespeech and freethought huh?

  17. It was a mistake, but look again at the scenes… Everybody..! Everybody, was beside themselves, and that included the players. It was carnaval… People lost themselves for an instant. The moment itself, and the moment that was analysed afterwards, were two different moments. It's quite ok to recognise a line was crossed. It's quite another to make it into a bigger deal than it actually was. Have you ever been to Spain? Do you know how often random men and women kiss in public there? Let them sort it out amongst themselves!

  18. There was a comment by a person who told the truth about the soccer player in question making jokes about it on the bus ride home afterwards. Their comment was deleted by this channel, or shadow banned. I have the screenshot of the comment.

  19. Spanish football is such a joke nowadays. The federation is ran so terribly and we wonder why England has passed us.

  20. Really, get over yourselves fgs, He did nothing wrong, it was a spontaneous reaction, Spain had just won' the world fgs, People don't understand the Mediterranean people, their psyche is totally different, Spanish, French, Italians etc are an emotional and passionate people, that's their way. But it's OK for a man to say he's a woman and invade real female spaces, now that is creepy. .
