Stop war in Ukraine, fight like hell for peace – Everything Law and Order Blog

The horrific war in Ukraine is now entering its third week after Russian troops launched a full-scale invasion on Feb. 24. As Ukrainians fight for their lives and the world teeters on the edge of global conflict, the disastrous ripple effects of the war can be felt throughout the world. What will it take to organize and mobilize an international movement for peace and de-escalation? As part of the Global Day of Action for Peace in Ukraine on March 6, 2022, RootsAction.org, the American Committee for US-Russia Accord, CodePink, Just Foreign Policy, World BEYOND War, and Progressive Democrats of America convened an urgent panel discussion to address this very question. With permission from the event organizers, The Real News is publishing this panel discussion for our audience.

Speakers include: Sevim Dağdelen, member of Germany’s federal parliament, where she serves on the Foreign Affairs Committee and as the spokesperson for International Policy and Disarmament for the Left Party (Die Linke); Bill Fletcher Jr., former president of TransAfrica Forum and a senior scholar with the Institute for Policy Studies; Katrina vanden Heuvel, editorial director and publisher of The Nation magazine, columnist for The Washington Post, and president of the American Committee for US-Russia Accord; Ann Wright, a peace activist and retired US army colonel who served as a diplomat in the State Department for 16 years before resigning in 2003 in protest of the US invasion of Iraq; Norman Solomon, executive director of RootsAction; Marcy Winograd, coordinator of CODE PINK CONGRESS and a long-time anti-war activist who served as a 2020 DNC delegate for Bernie Sanders and co-founded the Progressive Caucus of the California Democratic Party; and Alan Minsky, executive director of Progressive Democrats of America, a lifelong activist, and longtime progressive journalist. This discussion is moderated by Charles Lenchner, co-founder of People for Bernie and executive director of Organizing 2.0.

  1. Bill Fletcher is lying!!! US broke the Budapest agreement first and the Nukes Ukraine had weren’t theirs. The US has provoked this war read the Rand Corp report on weakening Russia!!
The US has every intend on destroying Russia and Balkanizing it 🤮
Bozo the clown from the UK screwed up a peace agreement that could have ended this war.
Why don’t you talk about what has happened to the Russian ethic Ukrainians in the east for 8 years!!
UkrainianNazis have terrorized the people in the east for 8 years!
Why didn’t Ukraine honour the Minsk 2 agreement Bill????? Idiot!

This guy is a brainwashed total idiot and needs to read more!
2014 Crimea was illegally given to Ukraine in 1954 and the people wanted to be part of Russia see referendums 1991/2014.

  2. All of your speakers seem to ignore real diplomacy, the provocation of NATO, and the Ukrainian Nazis' killings of Russian speakers in the Donbas since the US overthrew Ukraine's democratically elected government in 2014. They are instead following the propaganda points of the CIA. There was no mention of the Nazis nor the 14,000 Russian speakers killed by them. Peace requires looking at both sides of the argument, not spinning the truth to fit your agenda.

  3. 22:48 We did not capture the Crimea. Our troops have always been there. De facto, it has always been ours. We just closed the border for Ukraine
23:40 But NATO supports these soldiers, it advises them and sends a contingent there in the form of PMC mercenaries. And if it turns out that there is indeed a NATO contingent in Mariupol now. How will you sing after that? In fact, Ukrainian troops for us = NATO troops. Why should we distinguish if Ukrainian soldiers are supplied with NATO weapons?
The nuclear power plant was not threatened by anything, except for internal impact. Even if you shoot at buildings with electric units with a tank, you won’t cause an accident. But to arrange a new Chernobyl from the inside and blame the Russians for this – here the United States can always.
    24:20

If Ukraine did not unleash a war, then why did she wage it? 🙂

Remind you what Donbass wanted in the Minsk Agreements? Or can you read it yourself?

The United States imposed a civil war on Ukraine in 2014. Do you understand that in Ukraine all this time there was a civil war?

If Ukraine had not waged a civil war in the Donbas all this time and had not killed civilians, then our troops would not have been there.

Sorry, but we all knew very well that the United States would not allow Ukraine to end the civil war. Therefore, we immediately began to prepare for sanctions in 2014. We could immediately demilitarize and denazify the whole of Ukraine, but we would not have withstood the oppression that would have fallen upon us.

I'm just tired of such speeches from western peopple who repeat all this nonsense as in a training manual. Visit Mariupol now, interview witnesses, residents of Donbass, how they lived for all 8 years.

    Another bunch of clowns…

  4. If West want to stop this crisis in Ukraine so they should stop supplying Ukraine by lethal weapons, stop sending own mercenaries and let Russia to finish their operation of demilitarisation and denazification of own historical ancestral territory which is after red October revolution was named as Ukraine, as Kiev was one of the capital of Ancient Rus!

  5. What war? Russia didn't declared war against Ukraine And Ukraine also not declared the war against Russia, but Ukraine even continue to sell the Russian gas to Europe , is it possible to do so when two countries at war? Of course not! so what war? …

  6. I Imagine if you watched your children being blown apart into a million little pieces of human flesh, you’d feel gaslighted by those so-called promoters of peace referring to an aggressive invasion as a conflict. Shame on you all.

  7. About Russians demonization, and rus students possibility of being expelled and so on – well its shitty to be German during world war 2 what can I say… Same with Russians now…

  8. Who threatened the world with nuclear weapons? Was it NATO or was it Putin? Who is bombing civilians now – is it NATO and USA? majority of Russian supporting this war and Putin, you are talking as if Russians have some mystical existence in a vacuum and are not responsible to supporting this aggression and Putin – then you know nothing about Russians. Russia demonstrated the greatest inhumanity towards its own people during Soviet Era – You measure not by what other group of people do to other people but to their OWN PEOPLE. And they have demonstrated far worth level on fascism than Nazi Germany did. This in humanity is still there in Russian society. And Putin is simply showing this to the world and how few real decent Russians are there live in Russia.

  9. Right, you call on USA and NATO militarism but completely ignoring Russian militarism that was going on post soviet space all this time… Bravo… What's the difference between you guys and CNN again? You picked a side and they picked a side… Do you even understand that NATO did not provoke any one? Do you even know what Russia is? Do you seriously believe if China or North Korea will atack south Korea and Taiwan – you can say USA and NATO provoked China and N Korea? Is this a joke?

  10. Nobel Prize for the editor of "Novaya Gazeta" makes him for me an ABSOLUTELY unreliable source of information or opinion.
The Nobel Peace prize for Barak Obama, the leader of the most militarist country in the world, showed what these prizes worth in reality and whom are they given to.

  11. All pacifist voices on both sides are in danger of being silenced. There are only 2 bigger solutions: Either russia and NATO merge. Or the whole corridor sanitaire that the USA wanted to build on the boarders of russia must become neutral, and europe independant of american interest.

  12. Novaya gazeta is a very bad example. It's supported by us government. I don't think that it has a good vibe for my country, so think almost everyone here.
And by the way we don't have problems with misunderstanding the real reason. Our government didn't hide anything about situation at the south of Ukrain. We also remember what they did at Odessa on second May 2014.
We don't care about sanctions, we will be fine. It actually united us.
And to your knowledge protest were not so big as you think.
Most of the people are not so stupid and want save future. The whole world was ignoring our government for last 15 years, didn't put any attention.
So yes, we believe that our president is thinking about our future, we don't want to became second toy in USA hands that always wanted to destroy our nation.

  13. Die for ukrainian government, that willingly decided to choose war. Peace and neutrality was not alternative for them.

Oleksiy Arestovych (Ukrainian: Олексій Миколайович Арестович; born 3 August 1975, Dedoplistsqaro, Georgia) is a Ukrainian presidential adviser, blogger, actor, political and military columnist.
This is official position of ukranian government since 2019th. THEIR CHOICE WAS WAR all along.

  14. And why you all don t talk about the last developments in Canada regarding the trucker issues where all inimaginables sanctions where imposed over civilians…. regarding of twlki g about loss of freedom in other countrys, and about Julien and Sowdeen…. we have to much moral talking about others…..

  15. Why you don t talk about Donbass…. peace is a target but nervertheless why we do not listen about DonBass . Each country as it is USA Russia or China or any other will have their own propaganda. Thats normal, coca cola makes also porpagando. Now when we look into a situation we need to use all the issues thay raize it. What would you do to enforce the Misnk agreements ? World is not a beauty graden, it is indeed the projection of interest of each nation. In order to protect the weaker we need to real understand what is going on to raise a conflict that was already there. The things about guns, it is an industry and offcourse they try to survive. We need to get with feets on the groud not imagine a beauty world. Why are you talking about this conflict and not about others that are on the way and with a biggest death tool…. that s the issue. Offcourse even this people talking have an agenda ….
