It's the same cycle since the beginning, but each time we run it, it gains more amplitude. Then technology layers in, and the difference between highs and lows explodes. Technology has given us the power to alter evolution. We've used this power not to learn how to live compatibly, rather we've used it exclusively to make our own lives "richer". As we've always done, and that's the evolution part, our behavior isn't tolerable anymore.

Sounds like the book is packed with interesting stuff. Peter Phillips might have included a heads-up in his letter to the power elites stating that–since we know who they are–when the SHTF, these people will be targeted with no-nonsense reprisals. Down and dirty. Their lawyers will not be able to help them.

The Global Power Elites and psychopaths represent 1% of the global population. They are one and the same. Lust for money is not the motivation of the 1%. It is power and control. They are devoted to these goals and use money to get control because money buys power and power buys control. They love only themselves and hate others. Anyone who is not part of the 1% elite is an inferior person in their eyes.You can't appeal to them. They have no conscience. Climate change, a failing economy, nuclear war, even their own grandchildren mean nothing to them. They are like a crazed person holding an assault weapon who shoots innocent children and commits suicide afterward. What a heady experience. The Power! The control! It's worth their own death to them. These 1% of the World prefer a scorched earth policy to life itself. The world is full of Dark Energy. But not enough to prevail over the 99% of us.

In absolute terms most of the world is less poor than they were any time in the past. Living standards of people everywhere in the 3rd world (i.e. everywhere not ravaged by war) are much better than they were a couple of decades ago.
Yet the Western "liberals" want to pretend that they are concerned for those living in poverty.
But what is patently obvious is that these Western "liberals" never care for anyone, but themselves i.e. Western middle classes. When capitalism and capitalists were serving their interests, they were all too happy singing praises of capitalism. Now that capitalism stopped serving their interests, it is suddenly an evil thing.
The future of the West is neo-feudal, with a small minority of rich elite, a small middle class that protects them and a vast under class (that is not even needed thanks to automation). Get used to living in that dystopia or be prepared to be eliminated, just like the natives of North America were.
