Announced on Sept. 15 2021, AUKUS is a trilateral security pact between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, which involves the US and UK sharing nuclear propulsion technology with Australia. As Michael Safi of The Guardian notes, “When Boris Johnson, Joe Biden and Scott Morrison announced a new deal that would provide Australia with the technology to run silent nuclear submarines as part of its navy, one phrase kept coming up: ‘stability in the Indo-Pacific.’ The word the leaders of the UK, the US and Australia did not use may be more important: China.”

While numerous pundits and high-ranking national officials have tried to downplay AUKUS as just another defense procurement deal, it is clear that this move will sharpen the United States’s new Cold War with China, which the Biden administration is waging with equal if not greater zeal than the Trump administration. How does AUKUS figure into the US’s larger plan for “strategic competition” with China? What does this security pact reveal about the geopolitical realignment between the US, post-Brexit UK, and continental Europe? In this interview, TRNN contributor Radhika Desai delves into these critical questions with scholar and anti-war activist Kate Hudson. Hudson is the general secretary of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), media officer of Left Unity in the UK, and she has been an officer of the Stop the War Coalition since 2002. She was also the head of Social and Policy Studies at London South Bank University from 2003-2010 and is now a visiting research fellow.

  1. While I agree there's probably US agenda in the background of this.
There are points that so far have been overlooked I don't know maybe further in this video they'll address these. For example China is threatening to invade a free democratic country known as Taiwan. China also broke their treaty with the UK as far as Hong-Kong is concerned. Japan South Korea Taiwan and multiple other countries in the region if region are standing with Taiwan as is the UK and Australia and now America who's actually late to this game as as far as defending against China invasion. Again I agree the American government unlike the American people probably has an alternative as an alternative reasoning for getting involved which you know again a lot of the governments getting involved probably have alternative Reasons but that doesn't mean we shouldn't support a free country. Taiwan has its own economy Taiwan has its own currency. Taiwan has its own army. As a matter of fact when you really think about it Taiwan has been a great leader when it comes to democracy it was the 1st country to legalize gay rights such as marriage , it was the 1st country to elect freely a female president , it's the world lead supplier when it comes to things like microchips. Taiwan is A very powerful and free nation.

  2. Sad to see this from you guys. I criticize USA imperialism pretty similarly to you guys. Or atleast have in the past. Unsure if I still should. Somehow, china's CCP is rotten enough to make the USA look good.

  3. It’s the arrogance of the wasp race that they feel are the masters of the world. They’re ignorant narrow headed wasps don’t realize that we live in a Mutual Assured Destruction world.I guess Armageddon it’s not too far into the future. Kiss the human race goodbye…

  4. Listen to this shit. ‘Australia is sacrificing ‘its’ sovereignty to the United States’. Australia is now being run along the lines of a totalitarian state. It’s the peoples sovereignty you should be talking about. The criminality that rules us plays with nuclear technology. Not the people.
But this pair of academic liberals play their role within that criminality. CND has long been controlled opposition, just like green peace, friends of the earth, extinction rebellion etc, etc, etc.

  5. War is coming regardless of feelings. God will destroy this world then his kingdom will emerge following.

    👉🏿2 Esdras 6:9

“For Esau is the end of the world, and Jacob is the beginning of it that followeth.”

    👉🏿2 Peter 3:10

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”

  6. Australia 🇦🇺 is a Anglo Saxon white hegemonic settler colonial state just like the US, of course they want to maintain white domination!

  7. "A major realignment?" Australia already had defence treaties with USA and USA and UK are both already in NATO. What's the difference between Australia having nuclear-propelled submarines and the USA having nuclear-propelled and -armed submarines in US bases in Australia? This whole issue is about nothing and it's always based on Chinese Govt talking points. The USA has had military bases, presumably nuclear-armed, in Japan, Korea, Guam and the Philippines, all much closer to China than Australia is, for decades. How has this sale of submarines to Australia changed anything?

  8. I believe the US powers that control the current administration and Allies would rather see the world burn than share power with anyone and this is what I'm see happening now.

  9. No what this means is Australasia is sacrificing its sovereignty
in the interest of white supremacy the rest of the world should take note

  10. Dangerous is an understatement. I was just talking to my friend last night about the alleged “China crisis” and how furious and disappointed I am after being a very active activist during the #NoNukes movement. It’s as if they can’t wait for the climate catastrophe to destroy us and want us all to live in a perpetual state of fear. That 3 TRILLION “should” be invested in health, developing nations, humanitarian aid, education, low income housing and on and on with the goal being world peace.
