Former President Donald Trump is facing 34 felony counts in New York State and an additional 37 felony federal charges. None of this prevents him from freely campaigning for President and appearing before the media. Yet the reality for most people targeted by the criminal justice system is far different. Take Rikers Island Jail—where more than 80 percent of inmates have not been convicted of a crime. Legal reform advocate Dyjuan Tatro joins Rattling the Bars to discuss Trump’s indictment and how it illustrates the two legal systems that exist side-by-side in the land of the free: one for the rich and white, and another for the poor that disproportionately targets Black and Brown people.

Dyjuan Tatro is a publicly recognized legal reform advocate and strategist who has worked to bridge the gap between policy and practice. As an alumnus of Bard Prison Initiative, he has leveraged his education and experience to shift public policy in favor of expanding and incentivizing college in prison.

  1. 14 min in and not a single mention of joe Biden’s mishandling of classified documents or his rape allegations, or Hillary Clinton’s private server. This conversation is nothing more than a pro democrat sales pitch. Such a sad myopic understanding of our political system. I hope people watching this realize that democrats and republicans are complicit in everything these two people are talking about.

  2. TRNN is trying to spread a message and News to an audience, and as an audience member, I almost want to turn this off 8:37 into this interview. I can imagine other audience members may have just turned it off because of the difficulty of getting a coherent interview with broken sentences and being unable to disseminate the charges that the former president is facing clearly. I feel he is trying to narrativize this story a bit too hard and seems to be tripping himself up. I think that in his effort to build a narrative, he is losing the plot.

  3. The biggest barrier again is white centrists & liberals who DO NOT want to grieve over how much leverage and access to institutions they and everyone else ACTUALLY has! They don’t wanna come to terms with that donations override millions of ballots, that cops aren’t neutral robots. They’re terrified of the Machiavellian nature of politics, and want to preserve the illusion of “CiViliTy” and negative peace not matter what it costs everyone else.

  4. No, the justice system lets the rich off, and punishes the poor. It and cops are sh-t to non-rich whites too. And since the premise of this video is only about race ("when you're a hammer, everything looks like a nail"), I'm out.

  5. lol I just heard him say "legal and fair election"… just google "voting fraud arrest" have fun all day reading!!

  6. The same people that made the laws that hold those in prison are the same going after Trump. That's what you should be looking at, Trump's indictments are political, not criminal.

  7. What an excellent expose with shocking truths included let me add one. Trump used the power of high office to Pardon convicted felons. These felons conspired to keep Trump in office. Trump could have pardoned journalist Julian Assange but conspicuously kept Julian Assange the voice of justice and the people in prison to be tortured. Julian Assange had been skillfully exposing the corrupt for-profit sadistic system. That same sadistic system actively assisted in enabled Trump and others like him to create and appoint judges that create the living hell for so many. Julian Assange and the First Amendment are synonymous and they are forever linked to the concept of Justice many people feel that this is true. Joe Biden for some reason doesn't think so and will not free Julian Assange and continues to do Donald Trump's and the sadistic system's unscrupulous work allowing the living hell to exist and grow for so many unfortunate people. Julian Assange is a man of the people. It is a disaster to leave him out of any conversation regarding the current state of Justice. ! ! ! ! Thank you for your brilliant expose Julian Assange should have been free years ago! ! ! !……….!..

  8. This reminds me of a news story that I remember many years ago. Some heir to some petrochemical company raped his young stepdaughter who was a child at the time, and his punishment was house arrest in his super mansion and stay away from where there are children. He did not face jail time whatsoever. The only reason Jefferey Epstein was held accountable and murdered after all these years for his crimes was because he was planning on ratting out his own kind. There is a rule that the Rich go by. I call it the golden rule. If you are a millionaire or billionaire you can get away with the worst atrocities imaginable. Even cannibalism will not be a crime as long as you don't do it to your fellow elites and you don't snitch on your fellow elites. That is the America we live in. George W Bush is a Mass Murderer and he and Chaney get to walk around giggling about how they got away with war crimes. The united states is basically a mafia-controlled nation where the organized crime syndicates are not from underground organized crime syndicates that you see in mob movies, but it's the literal government and justice system themselves. It's institutional organized crime that is allowed and permitted to those who are wealthy and privileged, and as long as this continues with no reforms. Things will only get worse, the grisly details of the wealthy's crimes will always go into darker and darker territories to get that psychopathic thrill to fill the black hole in their pathetic lives. This country has no honor, and it never had since the start.

  9. Sir stop with the blak and brown people nonsense. Worry about your people, you don’t hear them brown folks, talking about brown and Black people.

  10. How America treats criminality of white people should be the title. You can be a wife beater (Dana White/UFC), pedophile, assaults women (Ezra Miller/Flash), domestic terrorist supporter (Trump) and continue to get away with it. It has nothing to do with classicism. Structural racism keeps letting these people continue to rack up crimes without punishment!

  11. Are you really falling for the propaganda, Mansa??? The talking points being used about people being killed on that day in January have been proven false a long time ago…

  12. You guys are racist. Can't listen to this. I'm white, but not rich, so am no different then you. So you are creating more division then fixing the problem.

  13. this jackass mainstream media should host TRUMP BASHING Fundraisers.. Donald Trump is an economy by himself. However total WHITE TR$HX

  14. I must say Crypto and stock market is the investment anyone can invest on right now. I bought BTC in February 2020, 1 BTC cost 0.003 until the end of March 2022. With a transition of 2.011 and 2.012 BTC…

  15. The criminal system is based exactly the same as the police system – protects business/property owners from everyone else! It’s the owners systems forced on us all, not a workers system we all agreed to.

  16. I don't believe Trump is going to go to prison…but sometimes I wonder what a Donald Trump in prison would look like, would he go to camp cupcake where Martha Stewart and all the wall-street guys go, bake cookies after their crime…..or would they build a whole new prison for Trump just like Pablo Escobar in Colombia….food for though, just wondering…because there is no-way in hell I'm thinking he would ever go to general population

  17. you must be a democrat because your comparing President Trump to people stuck in prison? its the dems especially the clintons that elevated the criminal system and incarceration of more black people. biden is the elephant in the room and your not addressing all his crimes right now? Palease…….Its all the politicians in the white house are above the war……Those charged on Trump are bogus and all those felonies are based on just 2 simple infractions. they are just trying to slow him down so he doesnt run for president…….You act like he is guilty and it hasnt been proven. this is stupid show.

  18. How Trump, Biden, Obama, Bush, and literally every president ever… treat the poor. You people are fking naive. News flash, the rich and powerful are at the center of politics and they control the government, and they don't care about you. Get real.
