  1. I believe the "sober Yeltsin" comment came at the time of the Yukos affair… a strategic oil company taken from the hands of a adherent of American PRIMACY! That being Khordorkovsky! Cohen mentions "state capture" by oligarchs…. that is what is desired. There were many smug articles about Boris Berezovsky and "The family" back in the day. The sanctions plan is based upon this "state capture" model… this dream. That oligarchs serves as a Guardian Council and all leaders serve at THEIR pleasure. THEY are under "OUR" control… through the privileges they have as members of the global elite… these privileges are being revoked. And Putin made comments the other day about how these people more often than not are more loyal to this transnational global elite than to Russia and so if the West wants to go after those people in a bid to attack Russia, let them!

  2. This is excellent! Must Watch: For a clearer picture of what has actually occurred in Ukraine and Crimea since 2014 – That is, If you want to understand #Ukraine #Russia #Putin #Crimea – this learned #American, #StephenFCohen Explains historical context since 2014 very clearly. 3. Yeltsin is the kind of puppet we love to deal with who has no critical thinking ability and follows his stated assignments even if they affect their own people! Of course Putin comes in and he becomes an enemy of state for thinking on his own!

  4. It is clear,
NATO wanted to cut off Russian oil supplied to Europe, then take the oil from Iraq, Iran, Syria and route it through to Europe.
I am amazed this is not a key discussion point

  5. Stephen Cohen is on the spot in his analysis of the current affairs because REAL HISTORIC FACTs are his TOOLs… you cant argue with facts… The current mass media is US and other western countries is INSANE…they dont understand that if they do not stop spewing bullshit propaganda and lies they will be the cause of another global conflict, WW3 or something worse like a global apocalypse…

  6. Everyone no Yeltsin was alcoholic idiot , selling and destroying Russia completely , Russians is luck with Putin because if Putin is don’t bring country back from ruins and don’t intervene in Crimea , Todey NATO will have military bases and Russia will be destroyed . Still is not easy for Russians because Ukraine is have fake revolution ( colour revolution like is happened with Rumania 1989 , Hungary, Poland , Bulgaria ) est Europeans countries and all diss countries was rocket by Americans , now is time for Americans to keep mouth shut on Venezuela , Cuba, Turkey, India, China, Brazil, and some countries in Europe .

  7. Mr. Cohen is quite right in many aspects but what I have failed to see here is the other side of Putin’ politics – the internal affairs. Let me spell it out for you – over 25% of Russians live below the poverty line and the percentage keeps creeping up; bribery and corruption are at the highest level ever; there are no more rights for ordinary people – the country is becoming second China in that regard (don’t mean to offend the Chinese) – these are just to name a few. And all of it is the result of Putin’s reign for the last 20 years.

I’m Russian and I had to leave the country partially because it’s almost impossible to live there anymore.

I wish people like Mr. Cohen were focusing a tad more on what’s going on inside the country.

P.S. I truly hope that Putin and his government gang will be shortly overthrown and sent to prison for decades

  8. Putin is a tyrant kleptocrat. Apologists are deluded or traitors. Yanukovych had promised to sign the EU free trade deal in his election campaign. Muscovy started a trade embargo against Ukraine in 2013.

  9. Very nice to listen to someone who understands the importance of the issue unlike the ones who just scream with zero knowledge of the situation.

  10. There were moves under Obama to get Ukraine into the EU/NATO,; the economy would then be ruled by TTIP. For the Pacific it was TPP.

In both areas the US would have been the biggest unit and so would have ruled Europe via NATO and TTIP including Ukraine with Sevastopol on Crimea where the Russian Black Sea fleet is. Could not happen.

NATO tried to muscle in on Crimea in 2006 through bringing NATO troops to Feodosia who the locals locked in a sanatorium with military exercises being cancelled.

  11. This joke of an interviewer is shocking. He would rather chat about small things than even approach the idea to even have a detente with great powers to solve real issues that actually matter. #joke I take this hash Tag as the interviewer as the joke.

  12. the american media is "ron pauling" tulsi gabbard … he also was an anti interventionist and they ignored or ridiculed him for that … just as they are and will continue to do to the only sane democrat running this time around…imho
