22. Sanctions are acts of war, because they cause deaths. The deaths are mainly civilians, if not almost exclusively civilians. Those civilians are mainly the poor, children, elderly, sickly—basically 'the least of these' in that country.

    The civilians harmed may or may not be supportive of the government that the country or countries imposing sanctions wants to overthrow in preference of a ruler more amenable to corporate interests.

    Torturing civilians, and targeting and killing civilians are otherwise considered to be war crimes. If the benefit of the people of a targeted country is the true concern, then any sanctions that impose more harm to those people than their terrible ruler does is contradictory, and therefore indicates how altruism, humanitarianism, and democracy have nothing at all to do sanctions of this kind.

They would use this woman in their effort to discredit the Venezuelan government.
