UK Brexit Vote Reflects a Deep Crisis in Capitalism (Pt 1/2) – Everything Law and Order Blog

Had the British been presented with the option, people might choose a socialist Britain over a capitalist EU, but they are not given that choice, say Prof. Leo Panitch of York University and Jon Lansman of the British Labour Party’s National Executive Committee

  1. May's brexit deal was full on EU membership, by another name. 50 years of integration that the brits knew nothing about! There's more chance of mass voter non-REGIStration than joining the naZi EUROPA UNION CORPORATION.

  2. This is what happens when you interview for a job you didn't want to do. She is doing her very best to surrender to the fascists. Hell her last deal was the same setup as now except no voting rights and they get the privilege of paying 39 billion.

  3. It is insanely depressing to see the right-wingers always in the wrong, always losing the arguments, losing elections, busted being insanely corrupt but yet, they seem to always get their way. Not just in the UK but the whole damn world. Money holds too much power.

  4. Capitalism has become a killer cancer on modern society. Evolution is not just a biologic function ensuring future progress. Human culture must evolve, or be eliminated from the natural occurring maturity of all life in a dynamic and fluid cosmos. On the path we are on now, "the dirt poor will eat the filthy rich" is a promise not a threat. All the money in the world will not reverse the collateral damage of such ignorance and greed. Material wealth is pointless basis for success as the world burns from the result of chasing the tail that wags the dog. War is Hell we all accept by way of inaction and apathy. ShakeUp

  5. Why are people so surprised? Can anyone remember why the UK is actually leaving? I've lost the plot now. I'm sorry I can't keep up.

Was it immigration? Hmm🤔It's funny how the EU is blamed for allowing unskilled workers into the UK when in fact exit checks were removed by the Blair government  in 1998. Although these were introduced in 2015, they have not been properly enforced by proper physical checks after security like in every other EU member state.  Therefore, there is no robust for knowing who is coming in and who is leaving.

If the government was really serious about controlling economical migrants, it could  implement the EU directive (2004/38/EC) passed in 2004 allowing member states to repatriate EU nationals after 3 months if they have no means of support or unable to find a job.

Or was the reason taking back power from Brussels in order to discover " endless opportunities" to do business? Well, the government has already found "endless opportunities" to make a balls up of the country's economy after the self-inflicted banking crisis of 2008 with their let-them-eat-cake-make, kack-handed handling of fiscal policy in 2010 which has resulted in misery and even death to the poorest members of society. Wages are stagnant, productivity is on its arse and household's debt has doubled since 1979. AND they managed to do all that despite apparently being under "the rules of Brussels". Hmm🤔

Or was it so they could have more money to spend on the NHS instead of "giving it to Brussels"? The Tories have a plan, apparently, to roll back the state by 30% of GDP. The government's stubborn adherence to Thatcher's model of supply side economics of the past 40 years and the paranoid belief that private sector is good, public sector is bad, have allowed the government to encourage profit seeking firms to run public services while passing on the fiscal burden of financing these services to consumers, labour, and small and medium-sized businesses. Multinational corporations are exempt from being called up to the plate because low corporate taxes ensure that the wealthiest businesses keep their earnings and can repatriate them elsewhere . Hmm 🤔

OR maybe there's another reason why the UK is leaving?

I have the sneaking suspicion that the government might not have the people's interests at heart after all. Hmm🤔

Maybe it's time for a reality check for the UK government instead of wallowing in delusions of economic grandeur and constantly blaming the EU for everything, they should start taking responsibility for its own misery which it has created? Of course, that will never happen.

  6. Thanks for producing this. This is timely and helpful in order to begin to think about the nature of the situation which is upon us.

  7. The EU elite want’s to bully the UK into submission by stirring up so much fear among people and creating such a mess that a second referendum will seem like the only remedy. If there still is no acceptable exit deal on the table, it’s because Brussels doesn’t want there to be one ! They punished Greece and now they are hellbent on punishing the Brits for having dared to say no, thus sending a clear warning across Europe as to what’s in stall for those who step out of line.

  8. I don't understand Leo Panitch's logic. Both the City of London and the EU are obstacles to left wing socialist governments. So if you have a chance to take one of them out of the equation, you do it. Also the city of London is just another name for what we call the 1% percent which exists in every country.
They are extremely powerful, but they don't have a parliament and legally bonding treaties that block the implementation of socialist policies.

  9. The Elites that masterminded Brexit masterminded Trump. There is no exit plan out of this predicament because there is no exit just transcendence to a post Capitalist Society. The Elites would have us believe that history ended with the advent of Capitalism but only with the end of Capitalism can our specie's history continue.

  10. The people, now armed with a clearer and more honest view of what Brexit actually means, now want another Referendum, but Brexiters are screaming at the top of their lungs (unironically, I might add) that another vote would be….wait for it….undemocratic! Wtf?!

  11. Why does Corbin keep saying the second referendum is a bad thing? With 21st century technologies, society can have direct democracy, similar to Facebook, people voting like/unlike for every more serious issue. Democracy can't be too much! Politics always look after oligarchs interests or their own agenda. Referendums must be as many as necessary to make sure things done right or admit the mistake and cancel.

  12. The beginning of the end of global corporate Neoliberalism and the slave labour it perpetuates… Corbyn and Sanders are the points of light for the world's people

  13. Considering all this, an unsympathetic commentator might suggest how fitting it is that the nation which destroyed the economic viability of the once great Egypt, will itself succumb to pauperisation. How the former empire that imposed military rule of millions may, in the coming months, see the armydistributing food on its streets — backed up by a surveillance state so extensive the Stasi would swoon. How the country responsible for cutting up the Indian subcontinent for short-term political gain will soon experience a breakdown of its union.

How just, he might add, that the same Britain that forced Éire, the Canadian First Nations and Australia’s Aborigines into beggary, disgrace and hopelessness is becoming the ultimate victim of Whitehall mismanagement. And all of it guaranteed by the largest democratic mandate in its history.

That same callow individual might end by claiming the only return to glory Brexit is likely to bring, is of the type that interested Milosz: irony, the glory of slaves.

  14. So the illusion of democracy has been shattered finally in the UK where referendum was mistakenly conducted by the establishment and it got the wrong result. Now those capitalist, corporatist, globalists are furiously trying to overturn it, aided and abetted by their stooges in the media and academia. Be careful – many people are very very angry at the moment!
