Had the British been presented with the option, people might choose a socialist Britain over a capitalist EU, but they are not given that choice, say Prof. Leo Panitch of York University and Jon Lansman of the British Labour Party’s National Executive Committee

  1. From what I've been hearing, the xenophobia is winning the hearts of quite a few Brits and the anti-socialism propaganda seems to be winning their hearts over. I hope that I'm wrong though.

  2. Someone get that man a speech therapist! His stuttering is atrocious! The Labour Party should just call itself what it actually is. the Communist party of the UK. The stupidity of the UK to leave the biggest free trade capitalist market in the world is astounding! Good luck with living in a failed socialist state!

  3. Xenophobia is the natural consequence if the deliberate displacement and replacement of the native races. With London natives in the minority and surrounding cities close to following London thus idiot knows full well the average Brit has just cause to be angry and attack the so called Elite responsible for their ruin. This program brings on the worst social observers they can find. Must be the water.

  4. Why is hard Brexit necessarily xenophobic? George Galloway would have made an interesting contribution to your discussion. It needs to be emphasized here that the EU is an extortionist racket. Sovereignty is not incompatible with solidarity. Workers need local control, something they won't get with an unelected boss in Brussels. Acceptance of transnational trade and commerce agreements as done deals is a betrayal of progress, as we saw here in Canada with the NDP (our rough equivalent to the Labour party) acceptance of NAFTA some years back.

  5. Something that both the Left and Right as well as something
    that both Remain-ers and Brexit camps are neglecting; that is:
    Britain's population is now so large and still growing that
    food has to imported in ever-greater quantities.
    This is not sustainable.

    Being an island has always been a challenge for Britain;
    which is why the English expanded their hegemony into
    Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Eventually, Britain became
    a sea power.

    Whether its Labor or Tories in power, limits on social
    welfare spending are going to have to be imposed;
    at some point. Including, possibly, limits on the
    number of children per family that people on or
    semi-supported by the dole are allowed to produce.
    (i.e. Shades of China's one child policy)

    Open borders and liberal immigration policies (such
    as Merkel and Macron want to impose on the EU)
    will be a death knell for British sovereignty. Do the
    British people want to be ruled by a clique in Brussels?

  6. Britain shall and will return to the 'own self'. There was centuries long tradition of commerce before EU came to existence. #Brexit !
    Plz, have G.Galloway on to comment.

  7. Why not Labour supporting an ECC (Norway, Swiss, … model)??? I agree with Leo on the Strategy, but our friends like Jon who are on the field can decide best/most optimal in most cases if the general Strategy is the same!!!

  8. Lansman is all 'aaahs and ooohs. Impossible to get anything worthwhile from him. Contrast Panitch, a model of clarity and eloquence.

  9. Regardless of how Brexit turns out, the interests of British Banks and German automakers will be put first by the legislators of both countries.

  10. why is left case for brexit is so controversial? it is easy to do, and the world will bet that the sky will not fall on Britain. we already see evidence for that. britain s growth is faster than germany s last quarter.
