The British model since 2010, based on ‘austerity’ can be seen as a transfer of resources from the poor to the relatively wealthy, explains UN Special Rapporteur for Extreme Poverty & Human Rights, Philip Alston discussing his investigation into UK poverty.

  1. I will say it now and say it again you are best leaving the UK if you have Chance I left and changed my nationality best thing I done. The UK simply is controlled by the rich elite. Well they ain't controlling me anymore haha

  2. Isn't the word "Political" missing in the HEADING?
Shouldn't the HEADING be like …
"UK Poverty Is the Consequence of POLITICAL Ideological Policy Choices of the Government"

  3. All this, in an environment of massive job extinction through computerization and the coming age of robotics? There is a ray of hope..Private prisons are a growth industry..

  4. Since the beginning of civilization, everyone has been allowed to enrich themselves upon the misery of those with less education, less wealth or less whiteness of skin. And to the extent that the more intelligent upper-half of society has hoarded all the land, wealth and political power. And as government is nothing more then the organized morality of society, using the deadly force of government to improve morality, will only make society more greed driven and wealth loving.

For the only solution to global warming and all the ills that cause it, is for everyone to desire to be a vegetarian pacifist with no more wealth than the poor.

  5. So depressing to be British right now. It’s like being American but at least Trump tells you he’s going to ruin everything and then does. Here, they pretend to be a competent government and then ruin everything or sneak the worst things through. I honestly can’t think of a single good thing they’ve done.

  6. sounds like the wealthy oligarchy that rule us are terrified of the new Socialist trend that has the technological capability to provide every human being with a decent life.

We must stop this at all costs!! lol

  7. Living in one of the poorest areas of the UK. Post industrial south Wales valley's. When I left school in the 70's we all worked cos there were jobs now's there are no jobs we point fingers. And while Thatcher started this Blair took up her mantle. And all the others since. We need to treat the workless with respect ,stop using the auto machines that take jobs (banks supermarkets check ins etc)until we do. And share what work there is. life is about more than bank balances ,job titles And things. We need to get a life. And discard those that don't govern in the interest of the people of the country

  8. Thatcher´s infamous comment might not have been valid in her day, but is fast becoming a truth as neoliberal privatization is fast siphoning the public assets up into the upper echelons of the fat cats. It is more than evident for all to see that austerity is certainly not taken up to better societal conditions nor to improve economies. Its true purpose is playing out in the pain of the millions witnessing their lives in disintegration and in the burgeoning and menacing power of the corporate state. This may sound melodramatic but it is the reality on the ground. So much of what Austin says demonstrates how these policies unravel the social fabric that serves to connect and support communities. That community spirit in turn is fundamental to the welfare of individuals.
How the Tories were reelected is a mystery unless you factor in electoral fraud.

  9. People are still failing to understand the origins of the oligarchs’ strategy to transform much of the West into a Dickensian or even feudalist system. The origins of this strategy come from the oligarchs greed and contempt for humanity and much can be understood by reading such books as Nancy Maclean’s “Democracy in Chains” or even Kevin Kruse’s “How Corporate America Invented Christian America”. Even a quick glance at the wish list of an oligarch can give some inclination of intent:

When Reagan and Thatcher were thrust on the people by the oligarchs, most of the oligarchs’ groundwork had already been covertly accomplished by their predecessors. And why do people keep misunderstanding Reagan? Reagan was just an actor utilized to sell the people on scams like the “Laffer” curve and “Trickle Down” economics. What Reagan was actually doing was the bidding of the oligarchs through White House implants by Wall Street such as Don Regan (Bear Stearns) who were actually in charge of US economic policy. If you keep blaming the puppet politicians for only executing their job description for the interests of their masters, you will never understand the oligarchs’ actual strategy.

And what is the desired outcome for the oligarchs? Their desired result is unfolding all around you. What tax does get paid by the oligarchs after such avoidance schemes as those created by Mossack Fonseca, has significantly reduced from the 91% tax rate after Roosevelt’s New Deal. Combine that with the recent scams of the “Too Big to Fail” bailout, the cost of money differential in loans, and the unconscionable amounts the oligarchs pay their executive minions in this corrupt system, and the result is the wealth disparity you see around you. So we are well on the road to a Dickensian World thanks to the oligarchs and those ignorant enough to support the oligarchs’ political parties in this deceptively fake “democratic” system.

Individuals such as Philip Alston may be well intentioned, but he is only presenting the effects of the oligarchs’ strategy. He doesn’t explain how this strategy came into being or how it was covertly accelerated; how the oligarchs consolidated the media so they could more easily control the narrative; how the oligarchs control the democratic and electoral processes to give the illusion of democracy; how the oligarchs bought the politicians so they could write their own legislation and reduce their effective taxation; and by owning the government they now own the military and they can now militarily or economically oppress any nation that doesn’t comply with their will. What Alston fails to understand is, by avoiding the origins of this Globalist deception he is denying the people the understanding that may actually lead to change. For, if you don’t understand your opponent and the tactics of your opponent, you will flounder and eventually fail. It makes me wonder if Alston is intentionally avoiding the causes and only commenting on the effects just to intentionally make excuses for the establishment. So yes, Thatcher was correct when she said, “There is no such thing as society” and the oligarchs have made sure of its demise.

  10. the tories privatised public transport in Britain in the mid `80s and what an absolute disaster it has been, price of a bus ticket is outrageous, likewise the trains, all for vulture capitalism

  11. UK Conservatives are Vulture capitalists and will double down on Austerity the only people who support the conservatives are sheep of the MSM who believe the smears against Corbyn. Job centres are a disgrace they don't actually help you get a decent job they just want you to get a crap part time job that is permanent just so it looks good for their figures and Job centre workers get a bonus. Job centres treat those who really want to look for work and want help like dirt their is a major culture of bullying and abuse in Job centres against genuine job seekers those who don't rally want to work which is a minority who turn up to the jobcentre are treated with kids gloves.

  12. “Are there no prisons?” asked Scrooge.
“Plenty of prisons,” said the gentleman, laying down the pen again.
“And the Union workhouses?” demanded Scrooge. “Are they still in operation?”
“They are. Still,” returned the gentleman, “I wish I could say they were not.”
“The Treadmill and the Poor Law are in full vigour, then?” said Scrooge.

  13. I guess the ghost of Margaret Thatcher is still fucking up Britain to this very day then again Ronald Reagan still doing the same for my home country. When will people realize trickle down economics doesn't work?

  14. The reason is socialism and big fat bloated government! Socialism is great until you run out of others people money… nanny stage is dying and will not go silently into the night…

  15. A government which is alleged to be a 'representative' government of that society and formed to enact legislation to fore fill the will of the majority of that people does not, can not and will not function that way, ever if we continue to allow Psychopaths into positions of power within it.
There needs to be Medical and Phycological screening of candidates who are elected to Parliament prior to them being confirmed or its a kin to putting Wolves in charge of the Hen House as we can see all throughout Western governments today.

  16. “The 16 year plan to destroy the United States: United Kingdom Edition.” qmap.pub. Totalitarian tiptoes. Time to course correct. Yellow Jackets on.

  17. It absolutely must be made financially worthwhile for people to share jobs we need people to do and work LESS…..there is no such thing as a shortage of jobs …just a shortage of people sharing the work.

  18. This abandonment of the vulnerable by the government is what Thatcher and her partner Little Ronnie Reagan wanted, they didn't think that the poor were human enough, no need to help those creatures, just keep the wealthy happy as if that will help your society stay together. The demented Thatcher didn't think there was a society just a market a psychopathic point of view.
