Lawmakers in Virginia have approved a draconian budget measure from Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin that takes aim at inmates’ eligibility for early release. The new law prevents so-called “violent offenders” from applying credits earned for good behavior towards their early release. Even inmates who have already earned early release are being affected, with some families learning at the eleventh hour that their loved ones will no longer be allowed to come home. Prison reform activist Chari Baker, whose spouse is also incarcerated, recently confronted Governor Youngkin over his cruel decision to prolong the separation of families on the verge of being reunited. Baker joins Rattling the Bars co-host Mansa Musa to discuss the new Virginia law and what advocates, families, and incarcerated people are doing to fight back.

Tennessee parole board does the same thing,my girlfriend got denied her parole release on may 5,2022 she been in jail since january 28,2020 she has had no write ups since she has been there,took classes in there,her percentage on her sentence papers was 30% she now has over 65%,to be eligible for parole,she way above her percentage now they should have gave her parole release,she has no criminal history or prior arrest only her charges she is in there for,they sentenced her 4 years,with 6 credit days a month she will have completed her sentence coming up in early may next year in 2023,she told them at her parole hearing she had remorse that she was ready to move on with me so we can get married,and i even wrote the parole board the same message and they still denied her cause of her charges,they didnt even consider all of her accomplishments since she has been in there,believe they are keeping her in there till her sentence is completed cause of one word,(MONEY),they want the inmates to have remorse which is good,but the true ones that does not have remorse and dont give a rats ass is the ones sitting on taxpayers parole board low life people that dont give a shit about no ones life except their own,PEOPLE ITS ALL ABOUT PRISONS AND JAILS MAKING MONEY OFF OF INMATES SORRY ASS BASTARDS !!!!!!!!!!!!
Rehabilitation is great. Light smacks on the wrist for felony crimes is not acceptable though. Letting criminals out early for good behavior can stop them from changing their mindset, and they go right back to crime. I’ve known some really nice criminals, that will destroy your vehicle after they steal it, jeopardizing your livelihood and ability to put food on your table, and they do it again a week later if they don’t get caught, and they do it again within a month of release. Over and over. Nice guy though. There are socioeconomic conditions that encourage criminality, but until those issues are corrected people need to serve their sentences, because they get people killed and spiral out random peoples lives for their own pleasure. Only types of crimes I don’t agree people need punishment over are victimless, like drug use. The idea that people that jack cars, commit armed robbery, and murder people should get early release because they are nice while in their cells; is an extreme level of naivety.
I do agree this system needs fixed, but it’s a mess and no one with power seems interested in fixing it.
Taking it a step further from racism, to classicism, how about it is the cult of Baal. The sheriff's departments use her sigil, the hexagram, on their badges. They want to control and enslave whoever won't join their cult, regardless of race or class even. It is about seeming good when they are evil and stealing the life from people. That is why we have a greater percentage of our population incarcerated than China, North Korea, and other harsh totalitarian style regimes, in fact, than in any other country in the world.
The USA is evil and corrupt to the core. All the evil they do is in the name of justice, teaching prisoners a lesson, etc. They won't even call it retribution. The punishment is the sentence, not ongoing torture. They use prisons as psychological warfare labs to test out control and destruction tactic that they can then use on the general population or other enemies. This is why a lot of ex-cons seem hipper than others, they are onto the game already.
First, quit crying racism. All races suffer from this. I spent over thirty years on an 8-year sentence watching illegal law changes (ex post facto) extend my sentence over n over n over. I litigated for free for all for 20-plus years in Cali to break it down. It is cla0ss warfare, not racist. That card is used up.
Seems like a legal challenge could be based on plea deals that were predicated on the law at the time, making this change to the policy a sentence modification.

It is a hard blow! It’s disheartening. One man walked out of the office after being told he was no longer going home and just vomited on the floor.
One man he couldn’t call his family and tell his family he wasn’t coming home.
They were depressed. Hope was loss. It’s been 2 years that we were fighting for this bill it finally came! Now it’s here they are calculating time and…… smh

It is not only ironic but extremely sinful that the very people who are responsible for the lives of others being behind bars are the ones who deserve, themselves, to be incarcerated! These Weticos, professional criminals – thugs with swine white skin are the reason the world is in a tailspin! They present themselves as respectable pillars of society when they themselves know what true reprobates they are, have always been and will be always! They call themselves "Christians" and they are true representatives of it in that they live their lives in accordance to the lies, denominational, confusion and straight up devilishness which goes hand in hand with it! So many of our people have been trapped like rats in an abominable system of beliefs which these Weticos have introduced us to that are in complete contradiction to the words of The Most High! The reason they can preach to us about their European Jesus, who according to what they have given us calling them the "New Testament" and not follow themselves in anyway, what is written in them, is because they know that what is written in them is not to free us but rather to keep us bound and under their feet and subject to the judgment of The Most High, which we are under as well! Think about it black family! We have tried everything imaginable to free ourselves from their tyranny and that in the name of their European Jesus, not realizing that the very thing we have been praying to is the very one keeping us bound! They are masters over us because we have placed them over us through the image they have created for us to fall and remain beneath them! European Jesus is not our savior and he is not the son of The Most High! We are not supposed to be eating his body and drinking his blood which is in direct opposition to The Most High! Once we establish this fact, everything else concerning him (European Jesus) falls quickly into place! The truth shall indeed set you free! Halleluyah!

It'd be nice to see some real numbers and statistics but neither the local news nor VA's gov site has anything, all I could see is the violent offender's (excluding 1&2 Murder and Rape) were enhanced to 50% good time. IDK what kind of initial choice of serving a 50% sentence would impact an armed robbery.
Prison is not just about punishment, but also about redemption and reintegration into society. The USA usually focuses on the first aspect. That's why all the prisons are so full.
Great interview with Chari Baker. She's a true hero. Like she said, showing solidarity for all imprisoned is essential.
