  1. Snookie Houseboat I know exactly how the benefits system works and can categorically tell you that you do not pay tax on means tested benefits. The only benefits you pay tax on is a contributory benefit such as contributory ESA and then only if you exceed your tax allowance with other income. Neither would you pay National insurance on either means tested or contributory benefits, the Government automatically credit your N.I stamp each time you are paid to stop any shortfall in your pension when you reach retirement.
Obviously from what you state you are an intelligent woman and are therefore capable of rationalizing that the video on which I commented is about the "poverty" caused by called benefits.
Admiribly and entirely to your credit you explain that you are paying your own way on a Counselling course you are doing in addition to a Masters Degree. Therefore you are clearly not one of these people whom is constantly whining about being unable to afford to feed their children and pay their rent and it is painfully obvious that you in no way fall into the catagory upon which I was commenting.
I too was a long term taxpayer whom has a degree. I have served my country and in fact myself claim a contributory benefit due to serious disability. I am fed up with people too lazy to ever work constantly complain about hardship while mis spending their money and it was this hardcore of people upon whom I commented. I could have made it clearer but I felt the vid made that point.
I am sorry if I offended you. It is a massive shame that everyone does not have your ambition and moral decency and I am sure your son is very proud of his mum. I hope you pass your masters with honours and also your counselling course. Once again Soz hon.❤

  2. Rent first then food then bills, that's what your benefits are meant for not the latest widescreen television of mobile phone, cigarettes, alcohol getting your hair and nails done, recreational drugs, cars ect. Basically if you can't feed em don't breed em.

  3. What is the problem with having to work if you are fit and well and why should the taxpayer keep them? On the subject of poverty if you pay your rent then your food then your bills you should be able to manage. Welfare is not there to provide: A car, alcohol illegal drugs, the lottery, getting your hair and nails done or the latest mobile phone. With single parents where are the dads and why should they not pay for the kids they helped to create

  4. No money for 6 months what do you do Turn to crime just like 🇺🇸 HUGE CRIME coming to UK

  5. Newsflash: there has never been and never will be enough work in the UK (or anywhere else) for everyone. Therefore, full employment is an impossibility.

  6. I agree with you, there is another major reason, there are no jobs, no new businesses, people are not investing in small businesses there is no drive for entrepreneurship and this is affecting the future of the young generation.

  7. It seems that all these problems in the UK (and Europe and the US) are still ultimately reducible, not just to the Anglo-American misadventures in the Middle East, but to an obviously flag-less, jostling hyper-rich Global-Super-State Elite, who helped make it all happen; particularly with the evisceration of the working-class across the Western Nations, begun in earnest in the '80's and the various wars in the Middle-East since the '90's, vaguely mirroring the Vietnam quagmire before eclipsing it in certain ways (but thankfully without the enforced conscription). From my (albeit limited) vantage point, this entire Global Gangster Super-Class with it's neo-liberal, "free-market" triumphalist mantra seems to under-pin everything that's going wrong on this planet:

Feral-pig International bankers/financiers socializing risk and privatizing profit while still somehow trading pools of toxic debt as a commodity, rapacious mega-corporations and Energy Concerns of various stripes and types, so many of whom now control our Media and our Governments, with the spooky unaccountable collage of alphabet-soup Secret Agencies, incestuously inter-connected within it all. And God-bless the shadowy arms manufacturers of the Western Nations, who welcome new theaters of war to consume their wares. Chris Hedges was right, this micro-civilization of super-rich regard everyone beneath them as just fodder for the cannon, if not totally useless. Even in their homelands. Nothing new there. But now it's in a more-unified, global context.

So best to keep the planet's peasant-consumer-cows in endless debt, lust for "the good life," misery and pointless micro-wars with one-another, distracted from the Real News whilst this relatively new, small but very powerful Break-Away-Civilization In Progress, who holds the bulk of the world's wealth

continues on attempting to reshape the Earth for Their own purposes.

….or, maybe I'm just being paranoid, and should go back to sleep.

(China, Russia and to a lesser extent India seem to me to be their own thing, East-Side Gangsters at their own end of the poker-table, but the West could damn-well end up in a dangerous accidental conflict with any of them. That is to say, an actual unwonted war, different from how the Western Powers with one eye open dipsy-doodled and slid "accidentally-on-purpose" into the first 2 world wars with Europe and Japan, and all the other skirmishes thereafter during the cold war.

I don't think anyone at the top levels who's still half-human really wants a full-out gang-war, a WW3 where nukes could end-up deployed and ruining everyone's day, rich and poor, forever. But who knows?)

  8. How is it possible that in the UK there is still poverty when taxpayers were forced to give up £94 billion towards social security in 2018-19?

  9. This is similar to what's happening in Australia but these bans are very brutal in the UK. I understand for single parents, they were changed over to universal credit and it created a similar issue to the program change in Australia (under Labor party) where those single parents with kids over 7 must work 15 hours a week or look for work, and their payments reduced due to being changed over from Parenting Payment Single to Newstart. Single mums were effected so badly, terrible poverty and desperation since. Thanks for this report. Great job exposing this terrible situation in the UK. Very sad.

  10. he said it best, I've been saying it for years hoping it would gain traction on social media but the UK system is a classicist/plutocratic system and its it is Neo-Dickensian. Thank you Philip Alston, Alfred De Zayas, and other UN rebels for the work your doing. This man deserves knighthood and Corbyn ought to hand him a job.

  11. Let's wake up society up to reality about child poverty. Child poverty is not natural , it is unnatural, specially in the modern civilised countries of the world .
Child poverty is brought about by irresponsible behaviour of the female of the human species, and a society that allows her to behave like this, which forces millions of children into poverty.

Bringing a child into the world when you are a child yourself, unemployed or even homeless, or demanding a full-time job and children, creates a problem within children and for society.
but that what women are doing and children are suffering because of this selfish irresponsible behaviour of women.

I have no problem with a woman having a full-time job, a career, joining the armed forces, travelling the world as a businesswoman, as long as she understands men can do these jobs because they don't have children, so if a woman wants to follow in man's footsteps then she must understand she must give up motherhood, so she can step into the man's world and become a man, and do the things men can do.

why do I say this, because of the statement from society specially women, for do you not say that the health and safety of your children is paramount.
The word "paramount" Means to be the most important, to put at the top of the list, to put before anything else. well that's not true is it the only thing that is paramount in the society I live in is the endless selfish wants of women, it is why we have all these children live in poverty so society can accommodate the selfish wants of women.

Let's keep it simple, so I challenge the whole of the UK society especially women, to show me physical evidence that proves you physically and actually care about the welfare of your children.
So far you have nothing in your corner, Except charities, who do what, they don't eradicate child poverty, they don't demand laws brought upon women to protect children from poverty, they just make money out of poverty, what is it £3 a head, and who mainly runs these charities to protect children, women! I think that speaks volumes of women.

In my corner to back what I say about women and society, I have over 4 million children in the UK living in poverty, I have baby and food banks popping up everywhere, there is my physical evidence that shows the UK society doesn't care a crap about the welfare of its children.

If you physically cared about the welfare of your children then this is what the society I live in would do to back what it says up.
    1) No woman will be able to produce a child if she is under the age of 20. Meaning she will have to be a full-fledged woman before she can be a mother.

    2) No woman can have a full-time job and children, because being a mother is a full-time job,it is not a few hours in the morning or a few hours in the evening or weekend hobby it is a 24/7 job.

    3) Before a woman allows herself to get pregnant, she must show society she has the financial means of looking after her child i.e. A home to bring that child into, a partner who is in full-time work that can support her and her child.

    4) Before a woman gets pregnant the man must sign a contract saying he wishes this woman to use the sperm to fertilise her egg, and he will take full responsibility of looking after this woman and the child she had brought into the world that has been fertilised by his sperm.
this means he cannot bugger off and create another child by another woman, and neither can she, if the marriage or partnership breaks down then tough, they have had their chance of being a parent and a family and it failed, but they cannot just run-off and start another family somewhere else, because that is creating another problem which is rife within society.

Why would society bring in laws like this , It is very simple.
    1) To back up what society specially women say about how important the health and safety of the children are to them. which is paramount. For do we not also claim to be a modern civilised caring society.

    2) To protect the health and safety of the child, to make sure the child is brought into the proper environment, Where the child has a chance of having a life, a proper upbringing, with a full-time mother and a father in a full-time job.

    3) To make sure that both adults know exactly what they are entering when they decide to start a family. again this is to protect the health and safety of the child not the adults.

Women keep telling me that putting restrictions like this on them is a violation of their human rights. I say to them but children have human rights as well, and that is the right to be born into a proper environment where they have a full-time mother, they have a proper home so they have a chance in having a life.

Women have a free choice whether to have sex, whether to get pregnant, if they get pregnant whether to terminate the pregnancy or taken to full term, and which environment the going to bring a child into. A child has no free choice it depends solely on its mother to make sure the environment she is bringing her child into is the proper environment, modern woman are not doing that, she has no excuses for her behaviour, and neither does society for allowing her to behave like that.

if society is going to say the health and safety of its children is paramount then it had better start backing that statement up or telling the truth.

It about time society made a statement about how much it really cares about the health and safety of its children. so far it's all talk and no walk.
so society speak the truth. Make a public statement about how much you care about your children.

We society do not care a crap about children, that's why we allow women to have them at any age ,any number and bring them into any environment. We women do not care about children that's why we pop them out at any age ,any number and into any environment.

that's the statement society should be making because that is the truth about how much society specially women really care about the welfare of the children.
we don't live in a Third World country, we live in a modern civilised caring society, Well all I can say. Is when are you going to live up to that claim?

but it seems women out there are determing to turn this modern civilised society into a Third World country a country that is rife with child poverty and crime.

To be honest, I don't think there is such a thing as a modern civilised caring country on this planet.

  12. Oh Mr Alston, I’m off to buy a poster of you to put on my wall. This planet needs more people like you who speak he truth. I have just returned from a mission trip to northern England and have seen the crippling effects that universal credit and sanctions have on forcing people to use food banks. This includes the millions of working poor.

  13. Defence spending has a lot to answer for this – spending billions on the ridiculous F35 which by all honest accounts is a flying brick which cannot land on any of the UK aircraft carriers, is a good example of wasting money.
If it was not for greedy politicians we could be in a much better position than we are in.
