1. Corporations have achieved their hallowed grail which is the dumbing down of the Population to the point that they are inarticulate, blind ,deaf and dumb. "Debates" are a prime example of this dumbing down effect. They have evolved into a dog and pony show for TV channels hoping to get some good ratiings. The last time there was a real debate in this country was the debate between William Buckley Jr. and Gore Vidal. But when you have an audience that has a 5 minute attention span, you are kind of screwed if you really want to have a debate. It is more a mud slinging contest amongst grunting hogs who can't even talk in complete sentences.

2. Because FOX "News".
   Don't need no debate when you have for profit PROPAGANDA.
   Anything for a buck, including destroying your own country.

3. In the 1980's , you had diversity of thought along with identity. WITH neoliberals controling the media other than FOX, universities only focus on identity politics

    Currently, the “mainstream” media is controlled by government agencies and both are controlled by large corporations. The leftist government policies are fully supported by the “mainstream” media. This has resulted in the flourishing of new news channels across the news spectrum.

29. What about the 90% of left wing media ? The media is saturated with left wing propaganda , it is extremely lopsided and very bias. This is where the problem lies and the reason we have the current failed administration .

31. When the outcome of debate is disingenuous because one party only wants a vehicle for spreading lies and conspiracies instead of backing their notions with actual facts…you do not have legitimate debate.
    To pretend there are equal yet opposing ideas is habituated through that constant presentation of a false equivalency that the media has adopted…
    The profit motivations of the news media to present that as a debate between opposing ideologies for audience ratings, wrongly legitimizes both sides of that argument…

32. The important thing to know is that all of this is by design. The powers that be de don't want rational political discourse to occur. They never did. They are just combatting it to the extreme now. The corporate establishment and the current political order definitely do not want democracy. They don't want the general public to be intelligent, critical thinkers and who could ever be in a position to wield real democratic power upon government and the rest of our society. Institutionalized U.S. propaganda and the subverting and reshaping of truth and reality has been happening full blast since the Woodrow Wilson administration. Propaganda from our own government is just a natural development of a society that is controlled by corporate interests,

33. The United States was never intended to be a "democracy". The only reason it is so today is because citizens, politicians, and the Supreme Court totally ignore the Constitution and its explicit limits on Federal Government power. If the people forced the central government to adhere to its limited role it wouldn't matter who got elected.

34. We are an uninformed public. When we leave school, we stop learning about many things. People are always screaming about their rights. My daughter has a masters degree in law. When I discussed legal situations with her, I was surprised by how many misconceptions I had about individual rights. I really laughed when TV report that lying by a politician was recently included in legal charges. If every lying public servant was subjected to this, Washington's activity will come to a screeching halt.
