Walden Bello, author of “Counterrevolution: The Global Rise of the Far-Right,” argues that the far-right is in ascendancy at the moment not only in reaction to the failures of neoliberalism, but also because of the failures of liberal democracy

  1. So this Auther is Saying Left Revolutionary Are Always poor but Right wing is always Rich. Thats some Marxist Bullshit.

  2. Modi Is Far Right. West should Not Judge Indian Right By your meric we are Polytheist Pagans our creed Is Different.

  3. This professor said so much but ended up saying nothing. He clearly does not know his subject with his excessive use of stuttering words in his sentences.

  4. rise in 5 yrs.? Duterte has done tremendous output as Mayor that's what you won't have bec you love all forms of corruption legalized or not and we are fed up with that.

  5. Because IQ matters, that's why. Because home invasions, that's why. Because affirmative action "doctors", that's why. Because 3rd worlders being forced upon advanced westerm societies, that's why. Because violent crime, that's why. Because the false double-standards of "hate crime", that's why. Because censorship, that's why. Because "I'm a victim too!" culture, that's why. Because these are just a few examples on a long phucking list, that's why.

  6. The far right exists because the far left and left became Neo Liberals like the Democratic Party. They embraced a form of privatization that left the vast majority out in the cold. They privatized everything from water to sanitation to prisons and all of a sudden they criminalized the poor. This happened all over the world. In India it resulted in farmer suicides. In Brazil it resulted in driving down wages and leaving millions living in wrenching poverty in favelas.

You want to pull back from the far right, the liberals in the classic sense need to push out the neo liberals. That’s the only way. The neo liberals have only objection with the far right and that’s their tone and language but not their actions. Hillary and Bill Clinton are neo liberals. They would be great Republicans during the Eisenhower and Nixon administration. Hillary said as much when she declared she was a Goldwater girl.

  7. Ah ah ahah ah um um……. Very hard to listen to. Simple, reaction to corrupt governments not acting in the people's behalf.

  8. The really scary thing about it all is that each of these far right factions in any particular country thinks that they are superior to all the others in any other country. So,for example, far right Germans think they are superior to far right Americans, who in turn think are superior to far right south Americans, who think they are superior to far right Hindus, who think they are superior to far right bhuddists. ….

  9. Upon getting to the end of this clip, I felt like they really didn't say anything we didn't already know. Not that I dont already know, but rather that everyone doesn't already know. They have a way of talking and talking without saying anything.

  10. The Western establishment aren’t solving problems. They are the problem. Globalism, destruction of the family, demographics and gender, no borders and declining wages are destroying our society.

  11. FAR RIGHT ,GANGSTERS ,WHO IS GOING TO BRING A COLOR REVOLUTION ,THESE ARE GREEDY /RACIST/CORRUPT /LEADERS HEADED BY THE USA!

  12. No… This guy is talking in circles. He points to everything secular but he intentionally leaves out the racial and religious aspect of this far right up swell. He fails to note this pretentious attitude within this population of right wingers that say they are the superior people so they must take charge of society. Trump's supporters of this advocacy for turning back the clock underscores this reality. We see this hard line mindset within Trump's base in their usage of the slogan "take back my country." These words are a chilling reminder of the horrors visited upon people of color and Black people in particular because the words stem back to the years of the Old Jim Crow. We know America's use of coded messaging in rhetoric like Trump's can be heard though out American history. Minorities hear these slogans coming out of right wing campaigns and understand this coded language is meant not just to divide as our mainstream media will propagate if ever the question of hate is examined. No the covert messaging in this rhetoric is whites must punish those non-white populations for their imagined occupancy of a superior position in this society. These slogans always tell white Americans they are being victimized by these non-white groups. Also in subsequent right wing messaging being a patriot is mandatory. Patriotism is the religious component of the right wing ideology. Patriotism justify the actions of hating those in opposition or neutral to issues of their kind of social engineering. Right wingers understand it is their patriotism that unifies their group and put them into a spiritual covenant with each other and their leaders.

  13. This analysis is more a thorough description of the rise of those parties. However, it misses the driving force behind it that pushes the propaganda and fake news. Look at who funds those efforts and what they look to achieve: billionaires like the Koch Brothers, Robert Mercer, Rupert Murdoch, but also Putin and his clique of Oligarchs. It all comes together when you realise that where their interests align is in continued fossil fuel extraction. It explains why most of those parties are in the climate change denial camp, and want to tear down institutions like the EU. It may not explain all of it. There are ideological elements (libertarian billionaires), and also geopolitical visions (multi-polar world order as wished for by Putin). But essentially the interests align in a joint agenda against climate action.

The followers are being roused by focusing on immigrants and 'losing our culture', their anger fed with targeted fake news and propaganda. Most of those movements are not grass roots like the original Labour movements in the 20th century.

  14. Does Russia fit into the counter-revolution frame? They seem to fit into the rise of the islamophobic far right which is a theme of the counter revolutionary regimes discussed

  15. Because taken to extremes, nationalism is a right wing value system, right or wrong, and peppered with shallow patriotism. I read somewhere that a percentage of any population cleaves authoritarian, and when the world is starting to feel the squeeze of abrupt climate change and its athropocentric insecurity leads to greater and greater fascistic tendencies.

  16. Neo-liberalism was never a variety of liberalism. This was a right-wing strategy from day one and it was they that selected this label for it. Keep that in mind when you keep seeing right-wingers smearing every liberal in existence. Fascists murdered off liberals before taking over.

  17. These patterns of voting blocks, or political movements may well be accurate, but it all is a mute point when Inside Election Fraud curtails any progress a movement may make. Now, with private source code, computer technology, Wi-fi, and minimal or no punishment for committing such a crime is enforced, we have a covert police state, where the wealthy or tge powerful rule the day, on any race. The US election system is full of holes, designed to be accessable, with a rewrite capability, fractional voting switches, voter registration files that can be omitted, low level audits, threshold switching of tallies through code within a selected race, usually presidential, now patches on the machines, enabling HS to monitor the situation. I have NO doubt that Jill Stein and Ralph Nsder's votes were funneled to the duopoly, during the election night, respectively, and Bernie Sanders's voters were purged from an approved status to that needing a Provisional. Ballot (which are hidden and/or counted a month later, and considered irrelevant to the outcome). Our influence in Brazil, recently, is an example, in my view.
