Unionizing—it’s so hot right now. Whether you’re a barista, a warehouse worker, or a package car driver, whether you work in Hollywood or higher education, the voracious corporate greed and exploitation workers across sectors are experiencing, and the wave of militant labor action shaking the US in response, shows why every worker needs to know their rights and why every workplace needs a union. Vince Quiles, lead organizer for Home Depot Workers United at Store 4112 in Philadelphia, breaks down the argument for why you and your coworkers should unionize, and what you can achieve together if you do.

  1. I work at a casino in Florida and one of my coworkers brought up Home Depot and how we should unionize. You need to be honest with these people who’s putting their life on the line over a pipe dream. Quickest way to be terminated is to talk unionizing

  2. Unions suck, I'm in a unionized work place, and they just reinforce capitalist systems of exploitation but you get slightly better pay, not control of the means of production.

  3. Before pushing for unionization as a trend it might be important to discuss why the great era of unions ended . And how the union management can be coopted. Also, the "nicer" smaller companies are sometimes unfairly seized by a me-too union movement, though of course not the truly abusive companies. Not anti-union, I just support some acknowledgement of the less-positive aspects of its reality.

  4. I will have to disagree with you categorically on this one subject alone, as an autistic man I was told point blank by a shop steward at caterpillar " We do not help people like you .".

  5. Hate to break the glittery bubble, but yes, your labor is an expense. And it's an expense that your employer is willing to accept. Just like you accept the expense of your data plan to watch this video because that expense adds value to you.

Learn a skill, people. Get good at it. This will then cease to be a problem for you.
