The degradation of women’s labor and social standing is a global feature of capitalism. In Barcelona, Catalonia, 60,000 women took to the streets for a one-day general strike called by Spanish union CGT on International Women’s Day, March 8. Women workers united across sectors to demand fair pay, an end to workplace discrimination, and migrant justice—particularly for the case of Spain’s domestic workers, more than half of whom are migrant women. In the latest installment of Workers of the World, Sato DÃaz and MarÃa Artigas report from the streets of Barcelona. This video is part of a special Workers of the World series on the cost of living crisis in Europe.

I am from the Canary Islands but my parents migrated to Australia when I was 2. I have been back to finish high school and to work. I was last there in 1994. I am so glad that I no longer live there as I hated the Spanish attitude, especially of men towards women. I had a boy friend when I lived there and he would not allow me to apply for a cleaner job because he thought it was of low class work. He would also not allow me to write letters (pre internet days) to male friends back home in Australia. Stupid me was only 20 years old and I allowed him to do that. I was 24 when I finally left that hell hole country.

Jackass mainstream media… It's Catalunya not España
All the problems in the southern region of Europe it is the europian union. e-government with no stats but Big financial back to control the money. We lost our sovereignty and the cost of living is too high so we lost all our small and big industries and small business in favor of countries with low- labor costs.. We are very, very poor. not only women even men are very poor.
Ironically, the biggest obstacle to women's wages in Spain is the surplus labor force created by immigration. Specifically, by the female migrants who are in direct competition for jobs with native Spanish women.

Supply and demand.
You get paid because of the market
People don't give pay because they are kind and generous, they give it because that is what the price is, and if you don't do it they can quite easily get someone else who can.
