Workers Strike Back coalition for a $25 min wage & more w/Kshama Sawant | The Chris Hedges Report – Everything Law and Order Blog

After over a decade on Seattle City Council, socialist Kshama Sawant is launching a national coalition called Workers Strike Back to fight for wages, universal healthcare, LGBTQ rights, a clean energy transition, and more.

Kshama Sawant joins The Chris Hedges Report to discuss the need for an independent workers’ movement that doesn’t answer to either corporate party.
Kshama Sawant has spent 10 years on the Seattle City Council, during which time she accepted only workers’ wages, increased the minimum wage to $15, and fought to increase taxes on Amazon. Sawant is a member of Socialist Alternative.

  1. She is an Indian plant sent to ruin American manufacturing so as to benefit India. So if minimum wage is 25 pH then manufacturing of goods just went from up an extra 80 bucks per day per person. So price of goods will go up by at least the same same percentile if not more. The production in India which seems to be America's new favourite manufacturing destination. Quality and wether they can make it work is another issue. At a couple dollars an hour, we can just fire Kenny in HR and pay the wage for a while office in India.
No one will want to buy the American products since they will be so overpriced. Geuss we gotta put tariffs on India too like Got done to china. Otherwise no one will CHOOSE to buy local when made in currymuncherLand is so cheap. Might have a smell to it, but the cheap price makes it tolerable

  2. Her claim of them syphonning money from Businesses so the lower class doesn't get a share of it…. But… Why would they if they are only employees and not shareholders. Upper echelon like business owners and other shareholders are entitled to it. No matter how much you produce, it's your job. Ask for a payrise. Otherwise I'd you take it, it'd be stealing dude.

  3. As much as I would like the working class to have access to more funds, it will only help to eliminate the manufacturing industries as it will raise prices of things much higher. Making display prices of goods much higher and not necessarily of higher quality either.

  4. When they get the 25 min wage, it'll still be minimum wage and will be able to acquire nothing extra since the inflation and interest rates will rise even higher just to counter the raised minimum wage.

  5. Kshama Sawant is the kind of leader many of us have been hoping for, and of course, that means she can no longer be a candidate for office. She understands the system won't be reformed from within by those who reap its rewards, she's taking her leadership to the workers, to unite them. Unless we unite the huge majority of workers, the system will not provide any openings for meaningful change. She's not afraid to use scary words like "fight", "militant", and "STRIKE".

  6. This lady is from India, she does not know everything about our American Constitutional Republic. So, I disagree with her a lot on certain things. I do agree that our own government is corrupt and needs to be thoroughly cleaned out. Capitalism, not crony capitalism will always be far better than socialism. Socialism, the government takes full control and it turns into Communism tyranny or just straight up tyranny.

Unions are terrible. They take your money and do nothing to help you. They tell you when you can work and when you can't, yet you still have to pay them, even though you are not working. Unions have out lived their usefullness. Also, look at the Unions that supported Biden and put us where we are now. One reason to say no to her.

  7. You wanted 15 dollar minimum wage and currently McDonald's is offering it and cannot find workers, and with the inflation that Dems voted for and extra 10 dollars won't help. As far as unions are concerned , the only sectors that have unions are the government employees.

  8. OMG I UNDERSTAND WE NEED MORE TO LIVE BUT THE MORE THE WAGE GO UP SO WILL EVERYTHING ELSE HELL KEEP GOING MILK WILL BE 50.00 A GALLON

  9. My dear young woman you have quite the accent there honey let me ask you something did you have all that you are demanding from the United States in the country that you fled from if so why did you flee if not why are you not in your home country making these demands there.
After all you clearly came here from somewhere else and judging from your accent it wasn’t that long ago.

  10. I don't know why YouTube keeps autoplaying this. Kshama Sawant us a grifter and autoplaying me into this three dozen times won't change that.

  11. As a landlord the risk the government put in place with the illegal eviction moratorium means I have to raise rent to compensate or sell to someone else who will. Thank government for skyrocketing rent.

  12. He's basically retired now , But i would think that american socialist, activist, political scientist Dr. Michael Parenti is cheering on this Workers Strike Back movement and Kshama Sawant .

  13. $25.00 minimum wage , benefits, shorter work week ( more quality time with friends, family and pursuing non job avocations) , paid sick days, paid vacations, organized labor unions and the like, was norm for US workers from approximately mid 1950s to mid 1970s . The minimum wage in 1974 was 2.40 per hr . Adjusted for today's evil mofo banksters artificial inflation , that 1974 minimum wage of $2.40 per hour was equivalent to today's $25 per hour . Everything was so reasonably priced back then . a single person could rent a reasonably decent apartment per month including utilities , pay for groceries , and have some money left over for a few modest creature comforts like a radio and tv , and go to the movies , a bar, eat out once or twice a week. by the way, It is perfectly in line with the US constitution for the government to intervene in the so called free market to lower inflatio . It has done it before and can do it again . The government can pass laws for mandatory higher minimum wage , humane work weeks and a National Health Care system and so on .

  14. Trans women actual men just attacked and assaulted and kidnapped and held for ransom Riley Gaines the biological women whose trophy was given to LiaR Thomas. Because LiaR As a transwoman was for more deserving. These trans women and trans activists are the vicious violent extremists that are ALOWED BY DEMOCRATS TO RUN AMOCK. POLICE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO STOP THIER VIOLENCE.

  15. Oh God… it actually sounded reasonable and sensible until it mentioned organising to promote the LGBTQ+ agenda. Jeez. Someone's sexuality is a private matter of no concern to anyone else. Making a minority variation that cannot and will not contribute to the future of the species an aggressive anti-normal, anti-human agenda just adds to all the other destructive agendas (cvd+max, Ukraine, 15 minute cities) that we are being subjected to. And if you object to 'anti-normal', look up the definition of both everyday and mathematical normal. The 'new normal' is either a corrosive anti-normal agenda (which is the elite-funded version) or it backs regular human beings going about their day. The human race deserves the latter. The elite and apparently this activist (might check her funding – or she's simply 'privately' dark) are determined to give us the former.

  16. She sounds like she wants a strong authoritarian government to beat up on billionaires. Just like a certain German national party wanted to beat up on their rich people.
Make no mistake, the ideas presented here seem great, but the power required to take away private property will be turned against all people eventually.

  17. Hedges is the one face that will turn millions away from Progressivism. But at least RNN is doing a story about something other than the victimhood of the Palestinians and the "evil jews and Israel".

Bravo Kshama Sawant! ( 1 question though, could she win re-election if she tried, and who is she going to give up her seat on the council to? )

  18. 6:57 Wait wait wait… capitalism is a zero sum gain? The wealthy siphon the wealth off of poorer people? I demand receipts. Prove that point.

People buy products with money that they earned because those products are more valuable to the people than the cash in their wallets. The computer you own, the lamp behind you and the couch under your butt were all trades that you made willingly and enthusiastically. That is not siphoning. Whatever wealth billionaires have is not due to theft, it is due to them giving you something in exchange for your dollars – the fact that these billionaires have so many dollars is simply proof that they are offering attractive items at reasonable prices to a lot of people. And with every purchase, the consumers' lives are enriched. The things you own (things you purchased in our capitalistic system) make your life much better. Jeff Bezos has improved far far far more people's lives than the "altruist" Mother Thereasa ever did.

  19. I can't wait to see all the people with signs reading " will work for food" because that's what your going to get.

  20. Anyone know how much union representation cost every year. Could fill up ten stadiums full of twenties. Union employees shouldn’t make more than the people they claim to represent
