As people get older, history has shown young people who were somewhat progressive or radical, become very, very conservative as they age, even in the era of rapid climate change where they expect to die before the worst hits, and continue to falsely hope that technology will halt or reverse it or, yup the magic word "or", the best of us (including, of course, the not quit but close to elderly, will catch a space ship to another planet. We can JOIN A UNION to organize for better working and housing conditions, JOIN A MUTUAL AID ORGANIZATION to care for our communities, JOIN A SOCIALIST BOOK CLUB to learn theory and see how our local struggles are connected with the international struggle against racism and capitalism. We put a lot of energy into electoral politics, but the foundation to hold elected officials to account isn’t as solid as it should be. With all our experience we can create our own media (like The Real News), start worker cooperatives instead of corporations, and work to build power outside of officialdom.
