5. As far as I understand the situation Florida is banning books that cover sexuality in classes with young children, which sounds completely reasonable to me. There is plenty of time during puberty for those discussions unless you are trying to push an extreme minority ideology. I have read the "don't say gay" bill" – it literally doesn't say that deliberately incorrect phrase once, which makes me distrust any criticism as it seems politically manufactured.

I knew i was gay when I was in junior high and it would have been nice to know it’s ok and have books and teachers that are educated in diversity and gender etc! So, transgender and gay people have been around forever! I was raised in a southern hateful baptist family! 24. What is Ron DeSantis doing to eliminate corporal punishment from being LEGAL in Florida schools? What would CANDIDATE DeSantis do to support a federal school corporal punishment ban? 19 states still let teachers and administrators hit children. Up to 200,000 children are hit in their schools each YEAR while peers look on or are aware of the assaults taking place. This is unacceptable in the Unites States in 2023.

25. As teachers, we are to inculcate skills, not doctrine. Beyond basic values like kindness and respect, we can overstep our bounds. We have an obligation to be transparent in what we teach, as we are trusted servants with a sacred duty for the next generation. As well, the citizens who pay our salaries call our tune because we work for parents, not districts.

26. Is it possible to get the lists of banned books? I'd like to see if they've banned Miller's Death of a Salesman and The Crucible , Melville's Moby Dick , Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby , Huxley's Brave New World_, anything by Orwell, Ellison's _Invisible Man_, and Bradbury's _Fahrenheit 451 .

29. I'm sorry but I have to make a general comment given all the right-wing spewing here. Just b/c you find material objectionable doesn't mean it's not valuable. As someone who recently graduated with a teaching degree one of the things we're taught is to make our lessons relevant to the populations of students we serve. This includes students of color, disabled students, and LGBT students. How do we teach effectively if you've got parents saying that including the experiences of people of color in history class is CRT? How do you teach effectively if you've got parents telling you that mentioning the existence of LGBT people is grooming? My goal in wanting to become a teacher was to give every child the tools they need to succeed. I'm disabled from birth and as a population we did not until recently (historically speaking) have access to education. As a result, it's very important to me to be able to give access to the privileges I have had. If teaching students to be kind to their fellow humans who are LGBT makes me a groomer in your eyes, I guess I can live with it. This crap has just gotten out of hand. What are you so afraid of?
